Put it on jackstands car in neutral Spin wheel to hear noise Take off wheel to hear noise assuming it's the caliper slide or shims If it makes noise remove caliper next Spin the hub If it makes noise it's probably the hub since you rules out rotor and brake calipers/pads Thats what I'm going to do this weekend Comment from : @Elpipiton |
|
Does anyone know what this clicking noise is my car has been doing it for awhile now? Comment from : @patrickcraig8424 |

I’m having the same clicking noise from my left front tire, so Firestone said it’s the wheel bearing but it’s weird because I just literally had that replaced two years ago but that clicking noise is exactly what I hear from my front left driver side tire I mean I’m presuming it’s the brakes but I don’t know much about mechanics by guess wheelbearings can make that clicking sound too, I need to get it fixed soon because I just got new tires and every time I brake all I hear is that clicking it’s irritating as hell Comment from : @RC-117 |
|
Yep same on my OPC just replace the brake pads new hardware everything and now this out of the blue I take it in for diagnose tomorrow but also suspect worn front end part Comment from : @martinhuusfelt1783 |

I know this is old but this answer is for anyone in the future usually a hard ticking noise like this one is because the brake hardware like the clips for example were installed wrong or they may be faulty Double check the brake hardware!! Especially if you just got your brakes done and this started!! Comment from : @turbo946 |
|
My 2010 civic started to have the same problem after bearings being replaced But only when I hit the brake at around 15 to 18 mph The mechanic agreed to put my old ones back and give me refund? Would that be a good idea? Comment from : @peihengli6359 |

|
Is it a civic? If so it's a "design feature" the rear pads are called flowting pads and have a tolerence built in that will be taken uo by rust and corrosion over time Apparently there's nothing you can do other grease the are The pads moves forward when breaking from the force and slaps against the caliper bracket when it settles back in place It's a stupid design but this is the statement directly from a couple honda dealers i asked Comment from : @vampcaff |
|
The clicking sound you hear might be a worn suspension component and not related to the brakes Sway bar links for example can make clicking sounds when the bushings are worn If ball joints are worn, the shifting of the spindle can cause a clicking type sound also A loose strut can also make a similar sound Comment from : @fav_slimes3493 |

Had this probleme on a 2015 santa fe xl ,brbrThe brake pad bracket started to rub on the rust from the rotor !!! Had it services by a friendly shop for 25$ Just needed to be resurfaced and probleme gone!!!!brbrIf you hear this sound for the same issue, it’s easy to diagnose if when you backing up it makes the same noise but much louder!!! As parts rubs more in the other direction!!!brbrJack your car up and put it in neutral ( use block so your car dont run away from you), remove the wheel and turn your disk you will hear the clicking sound, now turn backward and it should make the same noise but louder!!! If you dont know how to take your brack apart get it done by someone who knows and get the right bracket also!!!brbrGood luck all!! Comment from : @ebenisteriecreationbergero2396 |

I had the same noise from left rear after replacing pads and rotors, took everything off a few times just to make sure everything was secure I took the new rotor off i got from autozone (duralast gold) and put the factory rotor back on and the noise is gone I think they drilled the holes for the hub too big, so even after mounting the tires there was still play in the hub causing the clicking/clunking noise Comment from : @johnlenin81 |

I had a very similar sound after i resurfaced my rotors and changed the brake pads And the sound only happened when I braked and it was only on the driver side, I never heard this type of noise before I finally took off the resurfaced rotor and put the old one back on as it was still good and the surface was not touched This resolved the problem and the noise I am thinking that the rotor i was using is warped and might have to get it resurfaced again or just buy a new one Good luck Comment from : @z24kndn |

bHad a quick question Did this clicking sound start intermittently, and gradually become more common? I hear an intermittent click while driving at slow speeds It sounds almost exactly like a compressor turning on, very similar to what I hear in this video, but it's just a single click here and there It seems to happen more often now I have a feeling it's the brakes because I am now hearing light, intermittent squeaking while driving, stronger when turning to the right All of the sounds mentioned can only be heard with the windows open Thanks/b Comment from : @-dcoogan- |

I had the same problem, I chamfer the router, change brakes, changed caliper, change bearing with no result The problem was the hub, yes the hub itself that the bearing sits in The mechanic took the hub to the machine shop and he noticed it wasn't spinning straight You can buy a new hub or used hub or get it chamfered depending on how badly its bent Comment from : @dougster0007 |
