since you said that ideally a fantasy/sci-fi/postapocalyptic world should not adhere to real world societies, what about in cases were making a fantasy/sci-fi/postapocalyptic culture characterized like a real world/present day culture was done on purpose as part of an allegory, examples include characterizing the Fremen from Dune as literally Arabs in space and characterizing the culture of the postapocalyptic vampire world in Daybreakers as modern-day American culture with vampire-friendly modifications, would you accept that Jenna?

I started writing as a teenager, and I recently found out I was already worldbuilding before I ever heard the term ☺ My boyfriend and I once tried to write a story together and he started creating a planet and places, and I kept trying to prompt him into laying out story ideas We couldn't do it because he creates a world and writes a story to fit it I get a story idea, start creating a world, and they grow together I'm glad to know that seems to be the way most writers suggest is best

I found a way to explain the currency by using gambling as part of the story Mostly cause I don't wanna really get in depth in economics Many of these tips I sort of learn after decades of reading which has helped a ton

I like to do sort of what movies do with world building when they use visual storytelling I use actions to world build to avoid exposition dumps mostly because I'm a bit lazy and I don't want to write or read all that

You know its weird, the only way to plan for me that actually works is to actually write the story, and use the first draft as a plan I feel like when I start planning, is when my story starts to feel really stale and rigid My characters tend to write themselves a lot of the time and I find out more and more about them as I write I feel like thats kind of what pansying really is for me to be honest

Excellent video, as you always do!brbrI´m glad to see that, lucky me, my worldbuilding process mostly covers all the points Unforntunately, I have a big problem, and it is that my world has a medieval ambientance, an overexploded trope In fact I want to do it that way because I think it is a pretty good ambientance for the plot I came up with, plus the fact that I am Spanish and want to get inspired from my own nation´s history Should I change it? Idk, it doesn´t feel right to me to use tropes like that but, I also think it can go well

One thing I'm finding useful for worldbuilding has been by creating other stories aside from my main series which are primarily designed to explore aspects of my worldbuilding - creation, magic system, etc I feel that it really injects life into my worldbuilding to have a story with fully fleshed out characters deciding what goes into my worldbuilding, and I feel like it's going to be very useful when I reference these things in my main series I don't even have to finish the stories, just develop them with an eye toward the characters and narrative

I know I’m sort of building a world for by book tales of the old West: haunting legends of the superstition ancient mountains that I’m writing and self publishing on Wattpad and other platforms The world I’m creating is more like a alternative/ parallel earth type world So only some places are made up , while other places are not The genre I’m writing in is western / steampunk with middle fantasy ( that I invented myself) elements for book two The genre for book 1 the great battle for amarykhanta is alternative reality fiction, parallel universe fiction and my own invented genre middle fantasy elements brbrAny thoughts on the genres of my two books are they good and popular genres

6:56 yep, while not for writing exactly, I have found that rewriting what I thought the world was going to be in order to solve a particular problem is a great way to get around screwing yourself The only thing you need to be careful of is how your changes will affect the world, changing the home village of a particular character to keep them out of the action during a particular event, probably not going to have too much of an effect Changing how the economy works, on the other hand will affect everything
