There are so many versions of this famous tales, but they all carry one problem that none of them has dealt with properly All movie versions feature beautiful, delicate looking, but supposedly skilled female fighters In reality, Hua Mulan was probably a fairly large, strong, sturdy woman who was not particularly pretty She had to be large to fight against large male soldiers who could swing a broadsword with greater momentum than most smaller-built women could Mulan was also probably not particularly pretty so she could pass for a malebrbrNonetheless, the movie is quite entertaining I recognize the problem faced by movies as entertainment They need to have a pretty actress in order to attract the male audience who want to enjoy a pretty woman And males are the audience that would enjoy seeing well choreographed martial arts A movie too realistic with a nondescript looking female would not attract enough audience to be profitable
