I am going to disagree with trying for the earliest embarkation time I have given this advice on several forums as well We try for the 1:00pm window We don't have to bust our butts to get up and get going on embarkation day The long lines have evaporated and we breeze through the check in process and most times our rooms are available when we board the ship We can drop our carry on bags in the room, do the e-muster and the throngs in the food venues have all left for their cabins leaving it quiet for us

I drove to my cruise portwhich was fine What I didn't factor in was not being able to print my boarding passes out at the hotel as the printer was not working correctly for me to do so I ended up the day of the cruise trying to find a copy store/business store and I paid more for printiing out my boarding passes AND I was really stressed out because I was trying to hurry to get it done It also took me longer than I thought it was going to because the computer wasn't my computer and navigating the internet on a computer that wasn't my own took longer too

I always choose my time dining on Carnival But what's cool is on the app You can let them know when you're ready for dinner, and they sent you a message when your table is ready It's really convenient and super easy, so you don't have to wait in line

I would respectfully disagree about putting a credit card attached to your onboard folio You can start spending wayyy too much, and get a rude awakening Using cash, you keep yourself on a limit, so you don't overspend, and you can always go to the pursers desk to settle the charges, at a quieter time

What we have learned over the yearswhen u need to get to a showing have to walk the entire length of the ship is to go down to the floors that are all rooms and you can avoid the crowds and walk much faster

As soon as you get to your room take a picture of your room number with your phone I do this at hotels too That way you won’t forget your room number

Within the past year I cruised on a mega ship (RCL Odyssey of the Seas, about 4200 passengers) and a small ship (Azamara Journey, 700 passengers) On the Odyssey, there were so many groups going on shore excursions that everyone had to go to the theatre first and marshalling every group took about an hour, including queuing on the stairs And this was even with the groups doing ship excursions having priority On the Journey, this process took only a few minutes, and if you were doing something independently, you could just come and go at your leisure I really liked that flexibility and was able to make the most of my time in port Another time waster, not within the cruise company’s control, was a woman on an excursion in Israel whose priority was shopping She had no concept of time and delayed us at every stop We arrived back at the ship one hour behind schedule I missed my teppanyaki dinner reservation Fortunately they very kindly slotted me in later in the evening I felt sorry for everyone who was inconvenienced, especially the tour guide and bus driver, who probably missed dinner with their families I really felt they should have left this woman behind, but I imagine she would have created a major incident about that

Biggest waste of time is showing up early on embarkation day Many people show up thinking they can board early in the morning They wind up sitting for hours in the terminal waiting for disembarkation to finish Unless you like enjoy sitting in uncomfortable terminal seating, find out in advance what time the ship usually begins boarding to avoid waiting in lines for check in unnecessarily

It's a complete misconception that you don't need a nice room because you will never be in it My first cruise, we had obstructed view I HAD to be out in the public areas because there were 4 of us and we were literally on top of each other in that room My second cruise I went with a balcony, and I will NEVER go back to less than that I'll forego the excursions, but I need a balcony I want to try a suite on the next cruise Just remind yourself "I'm worth it"

I just went on a cruise I was online at 12am on the day I could pick boarding time I got 10-10:30 am first time When we fly on southwest I go online exactly 24 hours before flight to get A or B boarding

I never been on a cruise yet but I am planning on it in a couple years when I have some more money saved I have so much to learn!!brbrMy friend told me something about booking without knowing your room until the day before or day of but you have a 90 chance of getting a upgrade, I would love to learn more about that!! He said he books the highest cabin under the balconies and usually gets upgraded to a balcony that's pretty cool 😎

On RCL if you have to go from one end of the ship to the other side, either use the pool deck or Casino deck

Many ships allow you to make reservations ahead of time for my time dining which works well That way you can reserve times that well for each day

We were recently on a NCL cruise from Boston to Bermuda & Bar Harbor Put signs saying "Happy Birthday" as our son's 8th birthday was during the cruise Our room steward later came and said Security was upset and we had to take down any decorations on the stateroom door Wonder if the rules changed because noticed people on NCL cruises we've been on in the past do it as well as for other cruise lines

Excellent video After 26 cruises I have learned most of your suggestions the hard way I would also suggest another time saver which is "brand loyalty" As an older cruiser I have stuck with Holland America for many years, and an advanced Mariner status gives you several perks I loved being able to get any table I wanted in open seating, and several perks when booking a Signature Suite As you suggested, I try to do everything possible online while still at home, rather than waiting to do it on the ship

Personally i picked the latest boarding group We can go straight to our room, drop our stuff and go to muster I also tend to run late so we are leaving at 8 am even though we will only be an hour away

I have been on over 20 cruises, and never gone to the buffet on embarcation day There was one exception when we did a back to back On the second cruise, we went to the buffet because we were literally the first ones there

If early embarkation times are full, consider a late one We boarded at 2 pm for a 4 pm sailaway and there were 6 people in the terminal Absolutely the quickest boarding we have ever done The downside was that since cabins had not yet been released, everyone was sitting at the tables in the buffet There was no line for the buffet, but it was hard to find a place to sit and eat
