Jagex should have never come out with rs3 I wanna come back to OS but with a fresh account at my age just isn’t feasible Should I buy a main account that’s already set up a little bit? How risky can that be?

RS3 actually is the better game - and not because it's newer Sure, it has better graphics than OSRS, but itbrit has a bunch of quality of life improvements - the lodestone network, toolbelt, currency pouch, and run energy lasting longer to name a few The only leg up OSRS has (as far as I can see) is that items are smithed instantly while those in RS3 take time because of the mining/smithing rework (though leveling those skills is now much less tedious) RS3 also has a legacy combat mode for people who prefer the old point-and-click system (though they won't do as much damage as someone using the revolution or full manual modes) OSRS is pretty much just propped up by nostalgia

EOC was an issue, but people would have adapted eventually But the real nail in the coffin was the added mtx, which justified players' belief that the game was going downhill and ensured most of them wouldn't bother with rs3

I have been a long time Runescape player, on and off since the year of release and now I'm a boomer Progressed with RS all the way through to RS3 and had two max cape toons, ironman etc Recently I made the choice to try out OSRS, as some mates had a Group Ironman team going brbrOSRS is by FAR the better game! I'm only a few weeks in and after getting used to the old school graphics again, it's just amazing The grind is better, the lack of MTX spam is refreshing, the simplicity of most aspects is a relief The Runelite addon is superiour in every way to RS3 The "Dailyscape" no longer exists, I'm not forced to do things outside of maybe a birdhouse run and a farming run Collection log is tonnes better and group ironman is the most fun I've had in this game in yearsbrbrIt's safe to say, I'll be unlikely to return to RS3

For me and a lot of people i play with on osrs it is much less about those things and much more about the overwhelming presence of micro transaction Same with CoD now and a lot of these games, just feel like cash grabs that dont listen to the community and instead shove "content" at us locked behind paywalls and after a while you either are spending too much on it or dealing with FOMO and the constant reminder that you're too poor to enjoy a game fully

runescape 3 has a lot of microtransactions to milk the players, the money is not reinvested into the game brevolution of combat was the biggest mistake that divided player base, it was released in an alpha testing state, over the years the combat system was refined but the tick stystem still holds it back brthe reason I did not like 2007rs was trade system I did start play osrs when GE was released it was a blast now osrs outclass runescape3 in many aspects :updates,popularity,game modes, skills, servers stability , etc

Why is osrs 3 times as “populated” as rs3? 1 million bots 🤣br500k rs3 players, “15m osrs players”brIn reality both have around 500k players, osrs just has two bots for every concurrent player Though, I imagine osrs is 50/50 on bots at peak play times, the general 15m player number is only usually 1/3 legit and therefore very much equal to rs3’s player count Play both long enough and it becomes blatantly clear

Honestly, both in their own class, I hated when they brought out EoC and didn't play RS3 till about two years ago when I said I'd give myself time to get into it and funnily enough I did I still have no clue what the majority of stuff does, but it's good to see how far the games gone since I started playing in 2004 As always though, back on oldschool, because there's just somethings you can't beatbrbrWould recommend to anyone who has any interest in RS3 to give it a little go, join a friendly community clan to help you out, definitely a more welcoming community and extremely helpful

I remember vividly the day they removed the wilderness, it was December 12 2007 That was the beginning of the end RuneScape was massively successful and Jagex single handed my destroyed their own company with their stupidity and incompetence I was a maxed pure at 60 attack 99 everything I’m sure it’s their biggest regret everyone quit

I mean nostalgia is def a powerful thing I’m not saying old school is bad but after playing both I have to give it to RS3 Yeah the eoc sucks but you can turn on legacy combat mode and even a legacy interface to make it more like old school And with that it just becomes old school with nicer graphics, more content and nice quality of life changes Yeah there’s a good bit of mtx but you know what, you don’t have to buy them if you don’t like it I personally bought one cosmetic outfit and having your character look cool throughout the whole game really does a lot for it All personal opinions, love both that’s just what I prefer

When they fcked up RS3 I went to private servers and that quickly gave me all items I wanted When I try to play OSRS now, it feels boring, there's no social interaction The players are obsessed with xp waste The sense of adventure is gone (my fault) but it sure is better than RS3 still

I love both games As an Ironman I can see botting is only a major issue in osrs it seems like in rs3 anyone suspected of botting is banned much quicker and there isn’t really a possibility of selling gold for real life profit

The last bit is just straight up wrong OSRS didn't take over RS3 in numbers until as of recent Over the last 10 years OSRS only ever had about 1/3 to 1/4 the player numbers that RS3 had, and in the last 2 years OSRS only finally overtook RS3 because RS3 players swapped over to OSRS after many years of poor management
