@sorinankitt
You can also clamp the chip onto the programmer instead of soldering it
Comment from : @sorinankitt

@coladict
How the hell does youtube know to recommend this to me NOW? Just last week I was updating WSL on my work laptop when the work VPN crashed and resulted in blue screen (that happens half the time when the VPN disconnects for any reason, intentional or not) It got stuck half-installed, and I lost the data I had on it when fixing it

@oneplusplus2918
Thanks for nice and clear demonstration But I will buy you flux for next soldering video:D
Comment from : @oneplusplus2918

@jment34
What if you try programming the chip without using the adapter? Didn't you have to change the bios extension to bin?
Comment from : @jment34

@JohnWick-hx7bc
Neo programmer way better

@umulig
What all you guys wanna get is the Pomona POM-5250 test clipbrAfter getting that clip I never ever had a bad read again You can go on Google it It’s pretty famous among programmers

@spinkey4842
all the hoops you say have to be jumped through to fix this certain chip is actually not bad compared to rooting certain older android devices

@jonos138
Brilliant video as this is the kind of luck a lot of us would havebrBy mb has dual bios but i dont remember how it works I think it just defaults to the back up bios automatically but not surebrAs for the programmer, another tech on youtube says the mod is unnecessary, that everyone has got it wrong because it's the current thats important and the current is low I dont know, im no expert, what do you think?
Comment from : @jonos138

@gabriellevesque2185
I expected more from you, you do not need to modify anythingbrThat's not a design flawbr youtube/J8-Sh7DjiXw

@nb1843
well few thing ill add to this vidu dont need 18v adapter i use it myself so i know and u need to erase chip before programming it

My x99 motherboard does not boot, it turns on and off, shows error code 00 only I did everything from ram cleaning, cpu cleaning and resitting, gpu cleaning and also checked my psu on my wife's pc which turns on without any issuebrI saw some people turns on Their pc by worming it up with a hairdryer and i tried it and my pc turns on, checked everything and components shows ok in biosbut i had to do that every time and now even that is not working anymore Sometimes it works and sometimes it does notbrPls help me, give me some advice I live in Bangladesh in case you are wondering Thanks
Comment from : @fidazaman3155

@gilbertcuoco
Sorry, but that's incorrect The amount of current it can handle is very low It may deliver 5V, but only in very low A Ohms law states the voltage will lower

@diyfixtool830
Great video, thank you so much for creating and sharing your knowledge I'm grateful to you

@user-wu1dv6jk5s
It's an amazing product for the money, a mobo that would normally be binned or repaired at a high cost, can now be fixed for peanuts by myself
Comment from : @user-wu1dv6jk5s

@RealShinpin
Could this be used to deal with a firmware virus on the bios? Also this shit is so cool You've convinced me to buy a heat station and learn more about the base functionality of my pc

I am glad you posted this with all miss haps It was like what happens every time I try to fix something😁 can’t find the data sheet, need adapter, need a different program, you have to stand on your head and hold the wire just right to get it to work Lol

@mohamadmoheb
you could measure pins 4 and 8 on the motherboard after removing the chip to know whether its 18v or 33v

@oiooiioioiooioii5400
You make that soldering job look SO much easier than it actually is Perhaps the room I was working in was too cold, around 50F (10C) ambient, but I did warm up the board a bit with a heat gun My practice attempts on another board were also not so good There are alot of capacitors and resistors around it that were melting before the wson8 would budge at all Any advice for this?
Comment from : @oiooiioioiooioii5400

@sofianeouksel4884
I ve warched all the video and all i say good job man you just gave me all i want thank u

@CPBOXFIXR
Curious if the other bios has a different mac address in it, since it was dumped from another motherboard?
Comment from : @CPBOXFIXR

@duke605
It's a real shame that such an integral part of the MOBO has no standardization Most people would have to RMA it for something that should be so simple to fix
Comment from : @duke605

@MenCanNotBeWomen
Why the fucking around when one can buy a new bios chip off ebay, and just air solder it back on and away you go
Comment from : @MenCanNotBeWomen

@gearboxworks
"I have this REALLY NICE computer, I am updating the bios, and OOPS, I pulled the power cord!" 🤣🤣🤣 brbrTotal ballsy move!!! Much respect on the recovery 🙂

@scoobis63
For good quality test clips for in-circuit work (programming/testing)The two popular high-quality clips used are - 3m and Pomona with gold pins Either brand will run you about 20 bucks before tax and shipping at your typical suppliers like Newark / Digikey / mouser those cheap ones on eBay / amazon are usually inconsistent quality Chinese clones of the 3m and Pomona ones clones are hit-and-miss on getting good connections - Putting up with dodgy connections is not worth the money you save using those clones Do yourself big favor and buy a good 3m or Pomona test clip!
Comment from : @scoobis63

@oemdtc
I always use Pomona IC Plips
Comment from : @oemdtc

@rajanne2947
Also can I buy another CH341A (since they're pretty cheap) and replace the 33 v regulator chip on it with 18v regulator IC to obtain a 18 v version instead of using the ungainly adapter board for 5v to 18 v conversion? ir a TL431?! I do some hobby microcontroller projects too on PIC , AVR, and other microcontrollers and have a variety of low cost programmers and software over past 3 years since I got into the field to design timers for my own use basically I noted the amps drawn on usb port with the nirsoft utility usbd and it showed 96 ma although I didn't actually measure it !
Comment from : @rajanne2947

@vnagaravi
Can we flash official firmware directly to chip insted of previous working chip dumps
Comment from : @vnagaravi

@Deadcat_
I dont get it Why desolder when there is a jtag right there? You have a whole workshop Others doing this for this hardware have a full workshop Its as if I took a windshield out of a car to clean the inside because I have a fancy garden hose connected around the back of the house that wont reach I understand it's just content but maybe a bit more realistic workflow
Comment from : @Deadcat_

@twizz420
They need to go back to making bios chips socketed on all motherboards How expensive could it seriously be to just switch back to socketed bios chips?
Comment from : @twizz420

@martintaborda86
Hey Bro, you have the JSPI to plug some cables to the CH341, no need to desoldering
Comment from : @martintaborda86

@MF-jo6jt
Wrong no fault in programmerbrIf you watch sorin he has explained why there is no problem because amps are very low
Comment from : @MF-jo6jt

@andrew_koala2974
06:42 -- I would suggest - and it is highly recommended to applybrsome AMTECH NC-559-V2-TF Flux prior to DeDoldering - and forbrthe inexperienced - as a precaution - insulate any PLASTIC componentsbrclose by KAPTON tape could be used for that purposebrErring on the side of caution would save tears before bed-timebrbrAlso - apply some AMTECH NC-559-V2-TF Flux when ReSolderingbrcomponentsbrThis ensures good-quality solder connections and maintains electricalbrintegrity After Soldering - clean the area with a swab and some IPAbr[ IsoPropyl Alcohol 98 ]brAVOID using ""Rubbing Alcohol "" which is highly diluted and contains 40 WaterbrGood luck everyone

@astanfartin1647
do u think removing the chip from the board will make a difference to whether or not the data will write correctly?brdesoldering vs non desoldering

@bret44
Thanks for this video!!!!! It helped me unbrick a gigabyte itx b350 board I got the clips to work for me but I discovered the hard way that you NEED TO REMOVE the CPU for this to work I don't actually know if it would have worked by just removing the battery but I suggest anyone trying this should remove the battery and cpu before attempting to flash

@Tech875O
Hello, I find your content very well delivered and easy to understandbrThank youbrbrI have the ch341a and I'm in need of flashing a bios on my MSI GT70 mobo, as it was set with an administrative password by the previous owner, and they don't remember itbrbrHow can I tell if I should use the 24 or 25 series slot?
Comment from : @Tech875O

@user-ds1oq5pz9h
I also think this is the most helpful video on bios chip programming I've ever watched! Currently I have a bricked lenovo ideapad520 that was frozen during BIOS updating process by using the official lenovo updater running on Windows10 Now when I push the power button, its power led lights up and fan starts spinning, but screen stays black forever So I think that its BIOS is probably corrupted So, my question is how can we get healthy BIOS? I mean you can download its latest BIOS updating software from Lenovo's web site, but how can we extract BIOS file from that? I would like someone to share knowledge who preferably has experience in fixing bricked lenovo ideapad Thanks a lot for breaking a nice desktop, shooting and editing such an informative video
Comment from : @user-ds1oq5pz9h

@johnsmith-tr3dh
could have copied the chip before bricking it
Comment from : @johnsmith-tr3dh

@michaeljuliano8839
This was very informative Thank you I've just ordered a brand new Intel Core i5-13600kf and an ASUS Tuf Z690-Wireless DDR5 motherboard to plug it into, so I'm doing research to see how much trouble I'm in for assuming the BIOS needs an update to support the CPU, which it almost certainly does

Comment from : @lerssilarsson6414

@Jell0zz
Hey @Adamant IT, my IC only puts out IC not responding Do you figure it's because the clips are improperly attached?brOr could a shift in the clip have fried the chip entirely (FYI I did it non-volt modded)? Luckily a HP update is the reason the BIOS got corrupted in the first place, but so far no success trying to fix it :( Guess I will have to go through the pain in the butt that is RMA
Comment from : @Jell0zz

@mansoormolanian9644
Hi " normally the bios on manufacturer's website is an upgrade version and that file could'nt be written directly to bios chip to work So what did u do to the file to be able to write to the chip I think this is the most important phase Getting the right file from update one Regards
Comment from : @mansoormolanian9644

@makun16
I just found your channel and I love the content I have been troubleshooting an ASUS Z97-A board that doesn't post but the CPU and power LEDs/fans turn on There also isn't power to the USB heads I reflashed the BIOS but the result is the same How likely could the PCH be the culprit?
Comment from : @makun16

@wilsondavenport6939
as for the clip my father barrowed mine and was able to re flow the connections the pins for the clip allowing it to work
