This video was 12 years ago We are 12 years behind in the US Comment from : @langituifua2351 |
An absolute classic, well done! Comment from : @borat6363 |
It’s both ways in Jacksonville Fl Comment from : @cextraker |
In England we put the pedestrian crossing on the inside, that way it's different from the Dutch design and we get to say it was our idea Comment from : @Pirate44444 |
seen these popping up in my community in ontario please dont take this video down, i am sharing it with everyone i can to make sure they know how to use these intersections if they encounter one Comment from : @daxshell242 |
As someone who recently moved to 'Vancouver' (Richmond, actually) and seriously considering buying a bike as daily commute, how can you turn right from the bicycle lane shown at 0:25? Comment from : @dickiewongtk |
american are too dumb to understand this design, they only think about cars and how to make them go faster on road, in expense of safety of pedestrians and cyclists Comment from : @Kevin_geekgineering |
What are the dimensions for this crossing? Comment from : @ahmedalqahtani7270 |
good designs facing bureaucratic resistance kills my soul Comment from : @gwho |
Germany 2023 - bsuprised pikachu face/b Comment from : @MathiasHodler |
@BicycleDutch have there been any improvements 10 years later? Comment from : @YoJesusMorales |
I love it! Another benefit is that the cyclist doesn't need to cross a lane of traffic and have cars on both sides of them Comment from : @TheNormalUniverse |
Which software did you use for this? Comment from : @pbilk |
This would be so much better to have in the states! I'm always afraid of hitting a cyclist, especially near schools Comment from : @meadowrosepony9609 |
What is the purpose of those lines across the middle of the road at 2:06 and why are they only in the 'horizontal' not 'vertical' direction? What would happen if they were not there? Can they only be in one direction or are there intersections with similar lines in both directions (top to bottom & left to right)? Comment from : @zephyrmj |
North America needs intelligent, intuitive infrastructure like this so Badly Comment from : @jellybeansi |
Can't believe this is more than 10 years old The information is so new to me Comment from : @wilaustu |
Very good and clear video Comment from : @KiliGraphics |
I actually love this design! It should be standard on all bigger intersections Comment from : @JackMacLupus |
What about, for example, a large, articulated truck negotiating a relatively small junction? Comment from : @royksk |
THIS IS AN ARCHITECTURE LESSON of the highest degree We separate and order three types of velocities, crossings and recognize pedestrians, cyclists and drivers It's witty and precise attacking the problem directly Comment from : @kummer45 |
This is pure witchcraft Comment from : @Davmm96 |
notice: by the end, with the redesigned intersection, the path of the cars are completely unchanged this intersection is literally better in every way Comment from : @xymaryai8283 |
0:07 Wait, wait, wait That's an acceptable way of creating """"""""safe""""""" cycling paths???? How the fuck is that even remotely possible? That looks like a design thought up by a traffic planner with a cycling ex-partner they want to kill Wtf? Comment from : @piccolo917 |
Sanity for the win! Comment from : @leopoldkoppen9081 |
That is the definiton of beauty imo Am i weird? Comment from : @sebobastiseppobas |
Another benefit of road design such as this is it requires drivers to make wider right turns, forcing them to slow down Comment from : @TMAC53 |
I’ve cycled hundreds or thousands of times over these in my life, and never realized how cool and awesome this is Comment from : @kyh148 |
I would like junctions like this here in the uk Comment from : @roboko6618 |
Do you have a source for saying it is safer than the starting scenario because i highly doubt it? You can't just claim it to be safer without having proofbrbrAll you do is slowing down the cyclists and I assume you're making it unsafer aswell Comment from : @chipandchap100 |
this is how its done in my city in Serbia Comment from : @bajamalinindza9249 |
Dutch: Devises a junction which prioritises safety and simplicity for cyclists and pedestrians without hindering the driver's experience, and at the same time, at low cost with no need for expansionbrbrIreland: heres a cycle lane which only goes 25m take it or leave it Comment from : @theeggsquidzidboi7324 |
Hey BicycleDutch, what software do you use in this video? Comment from : @edwardprichard4399 |
Really good video, short but clearbrI'd love to see some similar videos! Comment from : @Wovi10 |
Wow this is ingenious Comment from : @petersva |
This is so simple yet amazing Comment from : @trent6319 |
I'm a car-loving American and I love this I share this with my anti-car friends as an easily implementable solution that works for everyone Comment from : @uncleshark1103 |
I was always trying to think how we can retrofit our streets There's the hard evidence 10 years ago I can even see it being used on the massive stroads near my house, just scale it up Comment from : @coastaku1954 |
I wish my state was more bicycle friendly Comment from : @heleng4528 |
While cyclist and pedestrian safety is important, I believe that bikes are overratedbrAlso color all you want, but riding a bicycle on a busy street will never be safe Comment from : @ApollonDriver |
Am i the only one that expected real life footage in the end? xD Comment from : @dxelson |
Manchester (UK) is building junctions to this design across the city Comment from : @EmptyGlass99 |
It is also a matter of priority There is almost no situation in which a car should give priority to someone behind, like the bicycle in the 00:20 So it is natural to expect a conflictbrBut the solution is so simple, elegant, and cheap! I do not understand why cities like Barcelona do not implement that Comment from : @DavidRodenas |
Chinese did this in the 1970s until 2000s LOL Comment from : @jimmy5353 |
Mark, I had someone ask about long trucks, buses having trouble turning through an intersection It would be great to see video in the Netherlands of trucks and buses going through protected intersections and how that affects the cyclists Comment from : @dougwedel9484 |
To fix the punctuation used in the title:brbrJunction Design – the Dutch (cycle-friendly) WaybrORbrJunction design, the Dutch – cycle-friendly – waybrbrHowever, I doubt either of them work for marketing purposes (getting people to click, getting the algorithm on board) Comment from : @oceanwonders |
What software was used to draw this Comment from : @jordankerotwo |
the radius of the little island needs to be smaller so that cars are forced to go slower and meet the pedestrian/bike crossing at a 90 degree angle Comment from : @swunt10 |
Best cycle paths, is no cycle paths Comment from : @karolfurmanczyk4404 |
Nice!! Comment from : @Thomas1980 |
my country problem is only the narrow road for cars Comment from : @farhansyihab |
Just one word: roundabout Comment from : @rolandfrei3924 |
Today in Russia: Are u really use bicycles like transport? Use Cars! We ll construct more highways in cities, degrate public transport! Comment from : @user-mw4wf5wi5r |
👍👍👍 great work keep doing 👍 Comment from : @ARCHStudioIndia |
How to make this arrive to the italian majors? Comment from : @flyerbilly |
Every Belgian: You guys have bicycle lanes? Comment from : @Stavros1 |
As recreatory cyclist and occasional rider I parreciate this a lot Bonus point it´r looks kinda neat Comment from : @petrfedor1851 |
Ich will das auch haben! Comment from : @roterfrosch5808 |
There is a small problembrSince you pushed the stopsigns so far back Cars will have a harder time seeing the other cars coming from other streets in the junction They will almost always need to go over the pedestrian and cyclists crossing to be able to see other incoming vehicles Comment from : @arthurramos642 |
Duh Comment from : @firsttenor76 |
This junction design considers the safety of all road users - pedestrians, cyclists and motorists - especially with the onset of autonomous public and private transportation Comment from : @seanmong9524 |
"We created a psychopath" Comment from : @atraxia661 |
In Ukraine we have cyclists Comment from : @andreykozyrev492 |
Or you can just let cycle drive in the road, like all other vehicles More simple, more clear, less cost Comment from : @Korsarro69 |
What about banning cyclists? They are the most dangerous part of the streets Comment from : @TheBerlinbaer |
This feels so normal living in The Netherlands haha Comment from : @nados3258 |
Now cyclists do only need to learn, that red lights count for them as well :) Comment from : @LETSDASHCAM |
or bikes can get the F off the streets Comment from : @JesperRoos |
Looks like a no brainer to me Like why even do all that weird bike lane in the middle of the road thing? Comment from : @cyzcyt |
Hey guys we're here again Comment from : @geesecentralstation4263 |
This is great! As a car driver, I've always felt the weird crisscross turn lane design wasn't very safe for cyclists I'd love to see these types of intersections start taking their place Comment from : @NoName-ik2du |
0:54 you created psychopath ? Comment from : @L4ki0 |
So a cheaper roundabout Comment from : @TheDatpussy |
Apparently the Dutch don’t use semi trucks, which could never keep from running rear tires over the islands when turning right in this design Comment from : @Andy-vt7sl |
I really wish we would update our roads I know it would cost a lot on money, and this specific design isn't the best for california But for a country and state that's been pretty much made for cars I find our roads as unacceptable Comment from : @BenRajan |
Man, the Dutch just seem to have it all figured out Comment from : @nc8507 |
Lol and people think the cyclists will stay in their lanes and not just cut into traffic to go straight through or make lefts? I mean they already don't stop for reds and split lanes of traffic without any thought of safety for others Comment from : @Nathan-ho7vr |
Basically the Dutch way creates a roundabout like bike path for bikes in a 4 way intersection Hopefully the bumpout curbs arent too high for trucks Comment from : @bearworldwide101 |
I doubt this will work here in America Nobody rides bicycles other than children in their suburb, and if there were a cyclist, they wouldn't follow the bike lane because they don't exist in America because the roads are one big scam to get you to buy a car for several thousand dollars on top of your mortgage and student loans Comment from : @Joeanniespots |
Please tell me this has further tweaks, like allowing every car beyond the turn right stop marker finish the turn and the marker had to be 5-10m away from the junction I get promoting bicycle traffic instead of car traffic, but going from one abs value to the other in 60 seconds is like signing your death sentance - silly at best Comment from : @eivis13 |
If you live in a place like Minneapolis this is really redundant, as the Light Rail, Commuter Rail and Busses all have bike racks on them, and connect to bicycle only pathways that cut through large urban greenways, most people actively avoid riding in downtown minneapolis, as most of the streets are one way, and requires a circuitous route to drive, or ride, unless you use transit(which can traverse bus only streets) Comment from : @lazyidiotofthemonth |
Just don't add the color with paint, that gets super slick in the rain 😄 Comment from : @matthewbrown7659 |
If they do this in america, you just KNOW people are going to find a way to misuse it Comment from : @TorreFernand |
as a dutch person I can say that this is indeed the way the dutch roads are designed Comment from : @dyamiclaassen901 |
In India its everything for everyone Nothing special for cyclist and pedestrians whether path of there or not Comment from : @Emperor-Of-Karma |
As a cyclist who has to use these types of roundabout junctions, I can honestly tell you they’re very rubbish The stones marking the cycling sections create artificial barriers that could cause accidents, motorists are too intimidated to actually drive near cyclists, going so far to neglect their hand signals The time it takes to brake and slide along the aforementioned stones is also very unhandy, and is most definitely a safety hazard, so much so that I usually just cycle over the regular roundabout to avoid the trouble of taking the cyclist’s path I live on the German border, and traffic is organized so much more efficiently here brbrIn short: Don’t adopt the Dutch system It’s expensive, inefficient and ill-suited to American traffic Comment from : @maple2524 |
we have that in canada Comment from : @aviationwithlucas3093 |
