Old school helmets like M1 Steel Helmet, PASGT and MICH provide more coverage for the users in conventional warfare such as trench warfare However, newer helmets like the FAST provides better mobility and hearing for low density conflict such as counter insurgency operations

idk, they could have the greatest sound and headphone set up in human history and my ears are still going to get sore after having them on for 16 hours There's really cool technology in the VR space, specifically with the quest 2, which has these tiny speakers in the head strap the point to your ear and make the audio extremely clear, loud, and comfortable, while being very hard for anyone near by to hear it I think tech like this could be pushed further and would have a spot in military applications

This helmet isn't the IHPS, that's just an Ops-Core Helmet The IHPS is garbage, and I'd prefer the ACH any day I don't know if the IHPS was just a program that opened the bill up to different products or not, but if so the Army chose a different helmet with actually lower protection from what I've seen

Has anyone tried making body armor as they would a modern combat helmet? Like with a hard plate made of layers of different materials, with Velcro and rails here and there for attaching stuff, over replaceable padding that you can wear over your torso?

0:30 Ballistic helmets have been around for many decades earlier than the year 2000 The PASGT helmet (listed on the screen, as you mentioned them) were invented just after the Vietnam war, in the late '70s They were the first anti-ballistic helmets to use the new aramid fibre we know as Kevlar Prior to PASGT helmets were steel M1 helmets being used, that were also anti-ballistic

My question is this, first the weakest joints in you body are the most flexibleex your neck The 762x51 or 762x54 (the ballistics are close for both rounds) round travels at 2700 fps or approximately 1847 mph Now being struck squarely in the head with this round while round may not penetrate my question how badly is this event going to flex your neck? Personally I never wore one (helmet) while on patrol, of course we didn't have body armor either (telling my age here) to protect me If it is my time to go I think I would rather have a round through my head a quick clean death as opposed to a neck injury which at this force (if it didn't kill you) would damage the neck and spinal cord Possible not killing you and leaving you with a body that doesn't work I do speak from a bit of an expert opinion working in the ER for 30 years seeing all manner of neck injuries While I am all for protecting our men and women service personnel, and sparing no expense in doing so I think we need to still paint a more realistic picture that doesn't sugar coat it If you have a hard chute opening it can break you neck, I know a few fellas that did One is still having a real hard time and the other is trapped in a body that doesn't work Just my two cents worth!

I can tell you right now being in the 82nd we do not have that helmet and soldiers didn’t mind spending their own money to buy it but the new CG said we can’t wear them Yet they gave us a piece of shit that you can’t jump without disassemble half the thing We want the ops core especially when we jump to save our neck bc of the weight
