Sand molds are not the best for capturing details Investment casting with a centrifuge or vacuum table is the way to go, unless you have coin-striking equipment, which isn’t financially feasible for hobbyists Comment from : Nunya Business |

OK, just how difficult would it be to cast a coin with a reeded edge? Comment from : Vince Dibona |
I would be careful about doing any more of this because silver is a monitory metal casting round without being a registered mint can cause some legal trouble As it's your own design and not a copy of any other mint I can't think of any problems but this video could be used as evidence against you Comment from : James Spiva |
Hi which type of sand do you use please and thank you Comment from : JLSsculptureDesign |
Great video Have you considered centrifugal casting for coin production? Often used as a way to produce fine detail things like warhammer models back in the day Also i think it will mean less work after the cast I think you can use plaster to pour the casts too Some jewelers 3d print using a wax like filament that totally disappears when molten metal is poured over it, no need for a 2 part cast Comment from : Sam Sterling |
I thought the thumbnail was clickbait they look so good Comment from : Steel Emerald |

Coins aren't cast they're mintedbrbrAll the problems you had - is why they're minted versus cast brbrThey're cool coins and the best I've seen for casted coins but yeah - minting :)brbrBTW - craziest thing ever minted coins look so amazing because when they're struck the pressures generated by the striking actually cause the top layer of the metal to liquify and flow up into the mold of the striking die When it's done at exceptionally high pressure and with really well-polished blanks (they're burnished before striking) that's how you get those "proof" minted coins That mirror finish and whatnot come from how much pressure is present for that fraction of a second and the liquification of the metal and the immediate draw of it into the diebrbrThere are a zillion video online it's quite the process to watch Comment from : Bryan Del Monte |
You cannot cast pure silver or make jewelry out of it its to soft that's why we use 925 0r so because it has other metals in it to give it extra strength Comment from : Mark Felkins |
this should be designated as a crime!!! Comment from : Wern Richard |
I've only cast silver once, and since it was a jewelery class, we used a sling, which uses centrifugal force to get the metal in completely brA vacuum casting method might help you improve quality as wellbrGreat vid Comment from : F DeMascio |
Bit strange to cast coins like this, rather than casting blanks and stamping them like mints do Comment from : Edwin |
