Decent casual advice, for riding in a city, that is in some country in Europe, I assume High light in video was a bike rider looking behind them, if safe before making the move Also being familiar with route partially is incredible for riding exercise and safety I when I did ride a bicycle I would always give slight hand and arm motions to vehicles in the proximity when an option Why? Simple it is slight communication to random vehicle that probably can't hear you if windows are up, but there eyes are open in theory since they are driving Also don't be afraid to give a talking warnings to potential people coming up on current route when an option

One of the biggest aggravations here is the "rumble strip, along the side of the road They force me to ride out in the main traffic Rumble strips make the bike feel like a jackhammer with a saddle

I'm really nervous about riding a bike in the city because I wobble a lot on the bike and the only time I ever rode a bike was in quiet pedestrian roads, the local cemetery or laps around the table in my terrace lol When I go back to London I hope your advice works Cheers ❤

I would say mount a right wing mirror on your handlebar as a minimum to see what is behind you Also I would get a dual camera and mount it on your helmet and indicate to cars and vans drivers coming from behind you It will help make most give you the necessary space of 15m and those who don’t you will have evidence to report to police to educate them

My problem is not heavy busy traffic My beef is with phsycho black pickup truck drivers who intentionally run you over or shot at you as they drive by Road rage is now the main deadly threat to us bikers, especially in the US If a pickup driver does not intentionally run you down he's just as likely to take drive by potshots at you Consider yourself to have a big target on your back as soon as you hope on a bike

I ride around suburban areas but I’ve got very little interest in city riding Thankfully, I don’t live in a major city area so it’s not a concern There are far too many idiots, impatient and inept drivers and outright sociopaths driving around the city Even if you do everything correctly, the likelihood of being clipped or even killed seems awfully high in congested cities

I'm in the US and I actually fear impatient drivers behind me behaving dangerously or actively trying to hurt a cyclist if they can't or won't pass for some reason - and also that a driver will be running about 45 mph while reading tweets and not even see the cyclist because when they turned on a half mile ago they didn't see a car up there and they're not aware of any busy driveways interceding therefore hit the cyclist from behind This causes fear of taking the lane and I also drive much more than most people both on highways and in the city and I've seen multitudes of drivers who wouldn't see a bicycle in front of them - mind you we don't even have to take a real class or anything to get a driver's license nor does the state mandate safety or environmental inspections for motor vehicles, only a tax

Biking my main mode of transportation but I think I wouldn’t like to cycle in London or a big US city, because - yes you can take the lane, ride in traffic, filter etc - but it’s just frightening getting passed close and exhausting to navigate through dense traffic Berlin has terrible streets for cycling but there’s a dense enough network of streets with separated bike paths, okayish bike lanes, sidestreets, parks and cycle streets and although the city is too slow, the new cycling infrastructure is good
