Bummer The Hairless MIDI to Serial link brings me to their page, but any download link I clicked gave me a 404 I went to github and even tried following the links from their page I was able to get the source, but I'd rather have the download available Do you have any other suggestions for MIDI to Serial?brbr >M< Comment from : Mr M-Bag |

You used RAILS? You made 5v and ground rails using strips of copper?? YOU CAN DO THAT??brbrYou haven't had any issues with arcing or heating or anything attaching an unshielded, open-air 5v electrical supply directly to a wooden box? Mind blown Comment from : makerbotplanet |
if you don't have arduino mega use a mux module as long as you have a arduino Comment from : ㅈ ㅊ |
Great job with the controller! A recommendation if you ever decide to make an updated version of this build instead of using the software to convert the serial data to MIDI, you can actually flash the 16U2 chip on the Mega or Uno with firmware that makes the Arduino register as a MIDI device, the firmware is called mocoLUFA It is very easy to install and you can still go back and forth to reprogram the controller Comment from : brdane |
What is the part number for the joystick? Comment from : NSputnik |
nice video! open my new world, I very like lt! T T Comment from : 麻薯油条 |

Thanks for the video What switches did you use under the keypad? Comment from : Hellenica |
How much did that end up costing you to make? Comment from : James Runion |
That phone dial is good, perhaps with all the oscillator inside maybe you want na connect to God The idea of a joystick is good instead of those knob but how about a fly by wire kind of pilots joystick, including the red firing top button Comment from : Issac Tian |
Beautiful! May I ask what wood did you use for the case? Comment from : Daniele Del Prete |
don't be so down on yourself and your supposed lack of musical talent we may not all be capable of being virtuosos on traditional instruments I believe we all have the ability to be good musicians and composers Comment from : cali4tune |
Awesome presentation, thanks! Comment from : CGonz T |
The only thing I don't like about this is that you didn't just use MIDI over USB directly, making the Arduino talk as a normal USB MIDI controller without the serial translator In my mind, that translation should definitely be part of the Arduino's jobbrHeck, even my QMK keyboard's Arduino simultaneously talks as a keyboard, a midi controller and a mouse with zero host-side setup Comment from : lollllloro |
I think I need foil tape circuits in my life Awesome project! Comment from : Chet Rismiller |

Bravo! 👏👏👏👏👏 Comment from : Diego Arnaiz |

I mostly dig your presentations but I do have one suggestion : ose the canned montage music !! Its shit ! brAs your show is for people who undoubtedly have music they have made , why not ask for some contributions ? Comment from : Jer Beebe |
Nice Comment from : Duniyar labaru |
Great vid! Inspired me to make my own I decided to go with the Arduino Teensy though which has an ARM chip and can easily pretend to be a MIDI device Much simpler on the software side of things Comment from : Gregory Sember |
Cool! What about latency? Comment from : Angelo |
i plan to make a midi crossfader can somebody tell me if serial connection works with a myavr board light and atmega8? can i make use of "Serialwrite()" with myavr board light and atmega8? thanks in advance Comment from : seedlord |
This was a great video It really inspired me I love playing synths and like you I am not a musician, I only like to make sounds My brother is a hobbyist micro-electronics guy and also loves synths and electronic sounds I am trying to convince him that together we should start building bespoke midi controllers according to customer specifications and go into business togetherbrbrAt the very least one should be built that I can use that has at least 64 knobs, 64 faders, 64 buttons and 64 pads Gigantic? I know, but it's a dream Comment from : TheRealTeebs |
Can i use ATMEGA328 Arduino Uno ? Comment from : Paki 26th |

Mostly just looking for the code thanks for that I'm actually trying to get USB midi and send it as serial data to an arduino/esp32 that has a DAC and plays music/samples Having a midi-control that goes native to serial seems like a nice testing aparatus Comment from : Michael Nolan |

Going back to the original breadboard, very nice my friend Comment from : Barry Allen |
Hello, I find your videos very successful I want you to make a video about a project In short, the Kontakt controller has LED guides This manual is standard for local instrument midi keyboards, s49 mk2 midi keyboards, but we haven't found a resource we can do, there is a led guide for the piano, but I don't know if it is included in the program I am waiting for your information on how to do this I'm so sorry for my English :) Thank you Comment from : Ahmet Aslan |
You can probably assume that someone wanting to know how to build a MIDI controller knows what MIDI is, but seriously thanks for eventually getting around to telling us what we came to learn Comment from : John Malcolm |
Very nice case! Why didn't you use arduino leonardo? It can be used as a 'direct' usb midi device, without the need for LoopMidi Comment from : Anton Art |
Musically inclined or not, you’re a fucking genius for this 😤 Comment from : GBeats |
Do those programs used to convert the signal cause any extra latency? Also would it work with multiple custom controllers at once? Comment from : m |
But you are a musician I always tell everyone who doesn't play but looks at synthesiser stuff, buy one They're just fun Eventually you'll want to learn how to play "Jump" or something and show your friends Well now you know some chords and a few techniques You can write songs You can play along with other people You don't have to be a virtuoso to get a huge amount of joy from playing music It's really not that hard to learn enough to play with other people And some might want to learn more and learn some more professional techniques This is how they do that They work really hard and learn There's nothing about it that's internal It takes time and practice You already like musical stuff Play music With other people or by yourself With the tech available now, anyone can do it Comment from : Paul TheSkeptic |
Nice job Daniel, awesome wooden enclosure, I know this is a year or so old but peaked my interest, so downloaded the code, well written nice and easy to follow, however noticed that if the rotary switch is set to positions 5 & 6 cVal is set to 12 & 14 this will run off the end of the array encVals[ ] which has only 12 elements, Should the values assigned to cVal be: 0,2,4,6,8,10 and not 4,6,8,10,12,14 or am I missing something here? Comment from : Col |
7:10 could you use some shift registers and still use the Uno instead of switching to the Mega? Comment from : Jorge Guberte |
Very nice !!! Thank You !!! Comment from : Joey Scott |

very cool I have a lot to learn Comment from : Kieran Humphreys |
Excelente e inspirador! Comment from : Memu Dance |
Excellent, and pretty to see Personally, the best interface I have known is the Novation Nocturn, with its great automap software But the endless knobs were really poor quality I am surprised that Novation has not released a Mk2, especially since they are doing mk2 or mk3 with many other products of the brandbrbrYour video makes me want to replace the fragile buttons with durable, solid onesbrbrI don't know if you know the Novation Nocturn, but I think it's still an excellent base today and deserves a new life with better hardwarebrbrIn any case thank you for your video, it inspires me, who's not a handyman at all Comment from : omnivorace |
Why can't you use a shift register as a multiplexer for increasing the number of digital pins in the UNO? Comment from : Dina |
ach so cool , well thought out and well executed I'm a musician with a fascination for electronics who is just learning to program, so this is very relevant Dire Straits at the end is a nice touch too Comment from : Micah Keren-Zvi |
nice one! Hyped to program a Groovebox now Comment from : Ivan Bergamo |
i want to do this bri love the video Comment from : NM |
gooodd Comment from : جورج شاهين |
With a multiplexer/s, you could have used and UNO? Comment from : DjAlanBarratt |
Step by step is what many YT videos excel at This is ultimately a fail The video shows how clever you were Comment from : Cantrip1957 |
does this only work for usb midi Comment from : Dj Prespley |
i make it
brbut my keypad matrix is 69 how can i change codeand i have problem in change octave Comment from : manouchehr s |
I'm not sure what I expected But a subtle reference to Farbror Barbro was not one of them brbrAllright! you have my subscription! Comment from : jmalmsten |
