Not only a small piece would help with root rot you good you got to remember Rockwall is a sponge it doesn't have any bacteria to clean up that root rot in that bacteria the bad bacteria in the rockwool so smaller piece would be would be preferred

Jimmy, thank you for this investigative work! I might add two points: (a) Tikki O on her channel shows that one can also use cotton balls instead of rockwool and (b) that I have used recycled egg cartons in place of the ice cube tray you used

Great idea I also found instead of clay pebbles I use 1/2" slices of a small diameter pool noodle After taking a slice of pool noodle cut a small "V" out of it and it will fit right in your net cup and hold the plant You can make about 100 of them for a buck

Hi Jimmy and others, I am considering using rockwool as a growing medium for hydroponics Now I've done som research and read that you first have to soak the rockwool in water with a PH of 51-55 Is this true and how do you make sure your seedlings are cultivated at an appropriate PH level? Might drastically reduce your cost of cheap rock wool but the lights and nutrients still cost a lot, you aren’t using any less because you used less rock wool :(

It worked perfectly Cut the rockwool in half, half again until its a tiny cube Pre soaked seeds for 24 hsbrCoco Jiffys, Foam cubes, i even cut a hole inside a rockwool cube and filled it with substratbrThis is by far the best method for hydro, the roots develop and come down from the net cup super quickly, they didn't with the other mediums, took them well over 10 days
