I saw that researchers are now worried what a ”antropocene moon” would meanbrHow much meaningful change could we actually do to the moon?brAre concerns for ”littering” or ”pollution” actually something to give any heed?br”Sustainable mining” doesnt really seem like an issue for the moon?brbrIf Im doing the conversion correctly 1 of the mass of the moon is 73 billion billion tonnes (73x10^18) We would have to chip away on the moon for quite some time to change it that much (little) Comment from : @magnusdanielsson2749 |

What planet is Orth I’ve never heard of it , does he mean earth with an E spelt Earth Comment from : @joshsmith5851 |
We can use non oxidizers to propel off the moon I propose Coke and Mentos Just kidding but in all seriousness could we use chambered chemical reactions to push? Comment from : @dontmatter1424 |
I was watching this again And thought why not one of those spin launch thingies that they’re working on in Arizona? Seems a much less work and resources or in other words a more compact system for launching stuff off the moon Comment from : @clydecox2108 |

The moon is the most amazing place Comment from : @christiansmith-of7dt |

Lunar “lava tubes” cant be lava tubes They are waaaaaay to long and large To achieve the observed size it would take a 3 g world to create some of the shorter ones Lava tubes length is a direct relationship with gravity Less gravity, shorter and narrower the tube will be Comment from : @joehelland1635 |
By only mining on the moon the scientists also should live on the Moon with technological engines for flying to other space missions Comment from : @yunusjhon651 |
Why is oxygen so abundant? I’d have naively guessed the third most abundant element was lithium Comment from : @danielrhouck |
We have few construction there but is underground but humans are not allowed to build anything we make it clear last time you come take few samples and never ever come back Comment from : @efranlaboy554 |

Est-ce de Gold Rush en tout taxe et en ne scientifique!? Comment from : @esquimathe |
Can we ever mine the moon Comment from : @onyedikachukwumiracle |
What are your thoughts on laser propulsion? I personally think if it was combined with solar or nuclear power technology it could be done with minimal environmental impact Blast a block of frozen propellant with laser, make rocket go zoom Comment from : @trentforent3390 |
So what happens when we strip away so much material that our tides stop working? Comment from : @EliasGraves |
But would the permanent removal of elements on the moon not reduce the moon's mass over a longer time? And would a moon that has lost maybe 005 (example) of its mass not drift away faster from Earth as it does now already? And thus have a huge impact on climate on Earth? Comment from : @errarehumanumest3810 |

I’m sorry but I can’t watch these videos with how he talks Please stop popping into my fyp💀💀💀 Comment from : @noturdad5354 |

Why on earth haven’t they sent signal boosters at intervals between here and mars so that we can maintain instant, low latency contact with our rovers, etc…?br It’s a no brainer It would be worth any amount of money to have the cell boosters stay out there for other missions and when we colonize br Communication is always going to be of utmost importance Set it up for radio signals, and have the infrastructure in place for high speed internet Comment from : @tobyihli9470 |
As for the oxygen production, isn't there any bacteria that actually release oxygen from rocks? Like some rust FeO consumer, just wondering Comment from : @herensugue |
If we are going to do this and the other things, we have to take the profit , and Capitalism in general, out of the equation Comment from : @carlousmagus5387 |

Wouldn't the cold of the moon work as a cooler for some processes? Comment from : @johnruckman2320 |

How would the strength of steel or other metals be different manufactured in the moon versus the same thing manufactured on earth? Comment from : @johnruckman2320 |

Solar is not unreliable - on the Moon it’s 100 Surely they have electrical grids on your planet Comment from : @Jhossack |
We discuss sending missions to near earth asteroids to get precious metals, but we should remember that it might only be necessary to have settlers or their robots prospect the many lunar craters for the remains of previous asteroid impacts they may strike it rich! Comment from : @backyard4465 |
Interestingly the rarity of hydrogen, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium means that they become valuable on the moon rather like gold, silver, and platinum here on earth One, could setup a local business on the moon to produce these Settling the moon would probably work a bit like settling the American west it would require a large number of settlers to create instant demand for services that are made possible by their presence, mostly artisans at first I would imagine Comment from : @backyard4465 |
Big for utilizing near earth orbit and the mood might be from the "Two bit Da Vinci" article "Pumping Water Without Blades - Magnetic Pumps - Future of Propulsion?" This tech might make everything spoken about here much more efficient Comment from : @backyard4465 |
Lol i dont get you guys Why does this excite you exactly? In what way are you thinking you would benefit from this project? If you look into it, its basically just a big money making scheme Its not to benefit humanity, its to make the rich richer There are people living a miserable existence in Africa cause they are forced to mine earth metals in the name of Western sustainability So how exactly does wokism align with a dangerous capitalistic venture like this? Comment from : @landojefferson7215 |
I wonder how CSA views human resources Comment from : @Paltse |
7:36 I have checked, and you could have known, that the Moon has aquifers Why you chose to ignore it, but focus on polar ice, is beyond my comprehension Comment from : @goiterlanternbase |

I wonder how one would be able to create hydrocarbon based components on the moon- manufacturing plastics would be… Comically difficult Comment from : @elijahsnow3119 |

We can't even take care of earth Now we'll go screw up the moon as well? Comment from : @EngineersQuest |

Does the Moon have Silver? Silver is the 2nd most 'useful/widely used' commodity, Oil being the first Comment from : @FabiWann |
nobody will be mining the moon in the foreseeable future ???brand nobody is carting all that equipment to the moon either ??? Comment from : @22secret77 |
8:00 solar farm? Why not build or lift a SMR or Thorium variant up there? 2 weeks out of 4 offline makes it even harder to get your investment worth in $ & resources for a solar park Vs lifting a shipping container sized reactor on a Starship? Comment from : @michealnelsonable |
@i your doing just fine It's thanks for keeping the plands of your on your courses! So just don't care for Bic! Comment from : @sysomphonemanuthong3953 |

im suprised how little lunar gem stones get in attention just the idea of lunar emerald is enticing Comment from : @evan448 |
Oxygen is the lightest material to get to space if you do it correctly brbrAll you have to do is ship up a politician or 2 into space, and they can provide all the hot air you need brbrThe only downside is that the hot air made by politicians produces tons of bullshit as a byproduct Comment from : @josephreagan9545 |
I'm pessimistic about extracting scarce materials like water or helium-3 I'm optimistic about the moon as a source of oxygen, aluminum, iron, and basalt fiber But I don't like the moon as a location for human habitation or manufacturing of anything more intricate than oxygen and the tanks to hold it Fully-reusable rockets and on-orbit refueling are on the way, whether it's Starship or some competitor, so the mass constraints won't be as tight as they were imagined to be in previous decades My guesses are that asteroids are the best long-term source of carbon, nitrogen, and trace elements; and that cis-lunar space is the best place for making stuff out of those materials Comment from : @danwylie-sears1134 |

Subbed 👍🏾 Comment from : @Nocturnal2010 |

The moon is private property not to be mined because its artificial 🤷🏾♂️👍🏾😁👽🕳🇺🇸👀 Comment from : @Nocturnal2010 |

I seriously doubt that we will make it to the stars as long we have a for profit economy Not only are the cost per unit simply to high for anything meaningful, I dont find it in any shape or form desirable to leave something so important to for profit companies Especially regarding their abysmal track record here on earth! Comment from : @50043211 |
My biggest fear is that governments and corporations will go to the moon and turn it into a large strip mining project and completely destroy our most beautiful piece of visual wonderment Imagine looking up to see a big hazy cloud of rock and dust encircling the moon so that rich assholes can get richer Or even worse, that put billboards for us to read I want us to go to the moon but it needs to be regulated to protect it from future ‘moon barons’ Comment from : @loopertrooper6671 |
How did you knew structure of moon Comment from : @Deepakyadav-vp8xx |

11:22 "a whole bunch of shiny aluminum parabolic dishes"brIf we add a few kilos of silver delivered from Earth and plated thinly on those aluminum dishes the reflectivity would be greatly increased And, since there's no pollution in the atmosphere (Ha!), there wouldn't be any tarnish to worry about Comment from : @TimStCroix |
I think Isaac would enjoy the game Stellaris Comment from : @Grzyb032 |

I would love to be involved in something like this Even if i was just sweeping the floors for the people figuring it out So neat Comment from : @hungryowl1559 |

Wanted to suggest a topic for your video… Is it possible to make the orbit of the Earth (or a similar planet) have many satellites, and not one, the size of the Moon? or can there be many Earth-like planets in one orbit (for example, Earth's orbit)? And is it possible that there are examples found in space? Comment from : @ivanfedak4517 |
4:32 cool! They turned Bobba Fett’s head into a power plant! Comment from : @swainscheps |
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress Comment from : @Valchrist1313 |
There’s a huge problem with smelting metals/materials in low gravity Imagine a swimming pool sized bubble of molten metal… We haven’t even begun to consider how to actually process anything we mine in space Comment from : @edwardteach3080 |
I've often wondered why static electricity collection stations aren't viable at the poles and in larger craters It seems there's an obscenely large and endless amount of electricity in those locations which we could capture and use with very little expense Comment from : @TheHonestPeanut |
This is a great episode When you compare the energy cost of a mass driver to electrolysis for getting off the Moon, that's the content I like! Comment from : @ilkoderez601 |
Isacc i just realized because the earth is moving the solar system is moving and the milky way is moving through space constantly Each moment i exist, i AM THE ONLY HUMAN who may ever exist at this point in the universe AND ITS WIERD Comment from : @lancetison5856 |

I wounder if there is a way of implementing cold welding as a means engineering in space like a 3D printer but using space itself for the welding part Comment from : @zombiekid2424 |

In times like these, it is always good to hear and see optimistic visions of the future, especially as an aerospace engineering student at LTU grasping for any hope that I'll end up building orbiters rather than missiles Comment from : @davidbarkland1914 |

nobrJUYST NObrWHYbrCAUSE WHEBN YOU MOVE MASS YOU CHANGE THE GRAVITATION ORBITbrYOU MOVE TOO MUCH ITS ALTERED LARGEbrAND THE MOON IS VERY IMPORTANT TO LIFE Comment from : @chronosschiron |

I just want a damn moon rock, the size of a pebble, for a good luck necklace u know, the necklaces people typically wear, with a little quartz crystal or amethyst crystal in them Comment from : @patrickcummins79 |
Sometimes I think the ONLY reason we dont do asteroid mining already is because it would crash the precious metal economy Comment from : @GreatGreenGoo |
Our first step should be on the moon Lunar base, launch pad, orbiting refueling station, etc After this is when Mars should be on our horizon Rinse and repeat lunar plan on Mars, all the while expanding to father reaches of space like the asteroid belt That's about 250-300 yrs of development Comment from : @evanmccue736 |
❤ Comment from : @svenDuke1 |
Space/moon bases would not waist energy with flashing lights unless it was necessary for a landing pad at the time a ship was landing For solar power the moon base would need to be built on the shadow/light line That way the panels would only need to rotate for the 2 week light cycle Comment from : @therakshasan8547 |
Typical farming on the Luna would be to risky, best to tunnel into the surface about 10 meters down and use artificial lighting Comment from : @justingreen8572 |
There's a teensy little problem with it all there's nothing out there we can't get far cheaper down here So there's no way to pay for any of it without massive taxation You may be able to overcome the engineering problems, but never the economic ones Comment from : @aelfredrex8354 |
This one is close to my heart Thanks for doing the math on how long those railguns need to be for launching people, fragile, or mass dump Truly the best source of oxygen is just refining our metals to build the rails for the mass driver While robots sinter the supports for the rails out of regolith The best way to go/build Mars, Ceres, asteroid mining, venus, Dyson Swarms(kurzgesagt), La Grange habitats, powersats, is by going to and building up the Moon first Comment from : @scrapcatastrophe |
While I have enjoyed the couple of shorts you have done I much prefer your long-form content I enjoy the lengthy explanations you give I have liked every episode you have put out Comment from : @alfredotto7525 |
We would also need to make something like concrete If it made of lunar regolith I say we call it mooncrete Comment from : @alfredotto7525 |
They probably got their cost expenditures from Elon Musk I hope he can achieve his goals Comment from : @alfredotto7525 |

Once things start getting self sufficient on the Moon, industry will leave earth so fast, it will be like off shoring on steroidsbrEarth will become an entertainment mine its main product will be videos that include a natural ambient that isnt created by an AI Comment from : @garylester3976 |
I wonder if humans will ever reach a star trek civilization, and when? And if they don't self-destruct? Right now they are flying circles through the privileged few Comment from : @apdiversion834 |
