Pushing salt around in the pan with a metal spatula on high heat until the salt turns black That makes it even more non stick!

I know this is an older video and props to Joshuabut does anyone know if the curing process at 500 F causes smoke? I live in an apartment and would rather not sound the smoke alarms!

Comment from : @Waytodestination

@clintonlamar1503
I'm pretty sure my great grandmother didn't have many of those items to clean and season her cast iron Maybe the steel wool She cooked on a wood burning stove and her seasoning oils were as follows Bacon grease, lard, fried chicken skin and if she was lucky, grandpa brought home a wild turkey All these store bought oils are nice and might be easier to use, but my go to for seasoning a new pan or reseasoning one I got from a garage saleone pound of hickory smoked bacon and a package of boneless chicken thighs Do not remove the skin And all I have to worry about is a heart attack as I'm wolfing it down
Comment from : @clintonlamar1503

@antonismarkantonis9056

@samdoiron3477
This video frequently takes word-for-word Sheryl Canter’s blog post on pan seasoning, down to the fundamental structure of the tutorialbrbrIn the description you claim you “have to credit some of the knowledge to her” but that seems like a massive understatement for just narrating her writing
Comment from : @samdoiron3477

@MrBobbo18
Orbital sander to get it down to raw if it’s real bad
Comment from : @MrBobbo18

@Pyromaniak2020
Do you have to let the Pan cool for each seasonong step? Or can you reapply the oil and keep the pan going in the oven for each additional seasoning step?
Comment from : @Pyromaniak2020

Comment from : @OtisNJay

@johncornwell1026
Gotta say that this video is a supporting argument for YouTube shorts This process only has a handful of steps I came here from a 56-second short thinking I must be missing something, but at over 7 minutesthere were no additional steps here
Comment from : @johncornwell1026

@bastianmarkstadter7969
But do you season it multiple times on both sides?
Comment from : @bastianmarkstadter7969

@SollowP
One of the reasons why I love cast iron pans, compared to other pans they actually gets better with agebrAs long as you don't do something like melt heavy and toxic metals in them (which is very popular, melting lead in cast iron pans is very common, so careful with pre-owned pans) they are basically indestructible
Comment from : @SollowP

@ihatebobsaget1989
from a scientific viewpoint you were able to fix this rust because it was just surface rust, true bad rust starts on the inside out and never stops there is a reason people call it "cancer"
Comment from : @ihatebobsaget1989

@ihatebobsaget1989
there are more maintenance, as others said but indestructible when taken care of
Comment from : @ihatebobsaget1989

To be honest, my cast iron Lodge skillet cost me $19 at Walmart It's not worth my time, elbow grease and nearly $19 worth of cleaning supplies to save a pan that I'd be money ahead just tossing in the garbage
