I do have a bit of a hard time being close to the coast and having a balcony garden ( I plan on wrapping the leaves around the railing) but I've been spraying the leaves with yogurt water so far so good I just feel like its not maturing, with the stem still being very thin

I’ve tried growing zucchini several times years ago and never had any luck You’ve given me hope that maybe, just maybe, I’ll try growing it again These are excellent tips that I wasn’t aware of years ago as a new gardener I didn’t realize they were “easy” so I guess I had “user error”! 😂I’ll keep on growing, you keep on giving great advice Thanks Kevin!

5 years ago when I started gardening I only was interested in really hot peppers After my second year i decided to grow some cucumbers and tomatoes The last 3 years I’ve been growing literally everything I can and there’s not much I really haven’t grown but this was my first year growing winter squash and I think it’s my favorite plant to grow now As you can clearly tell gardening has completely pulled me in and I’m not upset about it

Hello, Epic Gardening I have one of your books I tried to join the community online, but I just can't find my way around there When there's an alert, the click doesn't bring the message up or obvious Otherwise, great advice, but I guess I'll not be utilizing the community site

I’ve been gardening for 2 years and haven’t even gotten 1 squash I’ve tried different varieties, planting times, locations, in container and in ground, fertilizers and substrates I’m so damn defeated I can’t even get one measly zucchini

I'm pretty sure you should plant squash seeds pointy side down Actually, I've been growing squash off and on for about 60 years and I heard there was an up/down orientation until about 2 years ago It didn't seem to make any difference to my seeds ;)

If you play bat sounds in your garden, the beetles and pests will disappear They don't want to be eaten so they leave

Dead Girl Walking
I always tell people to grow zucchini as their first crop if they're nervous about killing plants They grow like weeds and produce heavily, perfect for building confidence
Comment from : Dead Girl Walking

PlanetaryDweeb
Have you ever tried harvesting and saving pollen from the male flowers? that way you can ensure that you will have pollen available even if there is no male flower open when the female blooms You can also control any hybridization as well, I just posted a video showing how it is simply done
Comment from : PlanetaryDweeb

Aithing Xu
Hi, this is my first time to grow squash And I think my squash grow with male flowers It's that mean it won't have fruit?

The pointy side up is a myth You can put the seed in the hole pointy side up, down, sideways it doesn't matter

You’d be surprised how bad I am at growing things but I would love to give pumpkins a try, they’re so gorgeous!
Comment from : StrawberryMins

Quack
I like butternut squash, they're a bit big so id recommend honeynut squash, its the same flavor/texture and one fruit is enough for one person
Comment from : Quack

Louisiana Prepper13
I typically do well with yellow squash and zucchini but the winter varieties except pumpkin give me more problems The SVB is my moral enemy 😅

Y’all gotta wish me luck I live in an area with very minimal biodiversity (monoculture lawns, brand new suburb that ripped down native habitats, that sorta deal) and I’ve seen bees in my neighbourhood literally once after two or three years here Planting plenty of pollination attractors, but still need a bit of magic!
Comment from : Sam Cresp

Kristie LT
I grew yellow zucchinis last year, it was my first gardening experience You're right, I only had 2 plants and they produced so much I had to give some away to my neighbour, freind and mum They made me feel so accomplished and I cant wait to grow more this year
Comment from : Kristie LT

Jack Hewitt
What do you do with squash plants that have powdery mildew at end of life? Obviously you want to compost it to recycle all the organic matter and nutrients but you need to kill off the fungus

my first time with zucchini this summer and not easy! LOL it grows crazy and holds on to a lot of water I must be giving it too much - i have thrown away more than I harvested, they just are rotting on the vine Oh well, next year I'll try again!
Comment from : Kathy F

I would get powdery mildew on my mammoth sunflowers, and it was so disheartening to see the beautiful leaves turn yellow and brown because of it

Comment from : Alexander Monzon

Gina Kelley
I grew organic butternut and heirloom yellow neck from seed They did very well, but only produced male blossoms and big leaves Only one plant produced 2 female blossoms They grew to 3 " and just dried up The butternut never produced any female blossoms, just endless vines, leaves and some male blossoms Gave some of the squash plants to neighbors and they are all Duds as well After 2 1/2 months of this I tossed them all Grew squash before and they did well???
Comment from : Gina Kelley

Seeds And Sanity
What variety is that branching sunflower over your left shoulder in the beginning of the video???

Lorien Green
The key for me was to cover my squash with insect netting to keep those flippin vine borer moths away 4 butternuts on the vine this year for the first time ever, and god knows how many Costata Romanesco… also word of warning: I really think I brought vine borers to my yard last year by buying those clearance squash plants from the local farm shop I think they came with borersbrbrMy friend in NC said that foil, nylons, etc don’t really work Covering is the only way… so far, he was right
Comment from : Lorien Green

Nick Oyler

Were you hiding behind the garden bed?? 🤣👍😆
Comment from : Ash McKee

M George
I always get a ton of male flowers and hardly any females, so very few fruit, and the ones that I do get have to be hand pollinated I have 3 small beds The amount of zucchini I was getting didn’t justify the space they were taking up, so I pulled them out
Comment from : M George

Brooke Adams
This needs to become a game they play "Squash", kind of like a "ding dong ditch" scenario They take a squash/vegetable and leave it on the porch, hide it in their house, maybe it's in their garden next to a plant that is obviously not squash and it's just an obnoxious, silly game of :"Haha, look what You got" :D
Comment from : Brooke Adams

MotherBoard
I love your videos Thanks for the time and effort you put into them Can you share sources of kumquats in SD this time of year? Either stores or other sources? Thanks Gophers ate the roots and killed my two dwarf plants I will try a container next

TripleJ Jackson
I have a question I be trying to grow summer squash during the summer and given it enough water and direct sunlight for at least 6hrs After the squash produces a fruit, I pollinate it and a few days later the squash die and eventually the whole plant dies too So do you know about any reasons why this can happen? Thanks in Advance
Comment from : TripleJ Jackson

rufia75
Acceptance remedy is fair I will say that I find the milk/water spray to be quite effective, however and obviously fairly cost effective Apparently best to do when the sun is out/hitting the leaves, unlike most sprays
Comment from : rufia75

I totally get the logic of hand pollination but it went wrong for me On the female flower with fruit I had hand pollinated from a male flower with a soft paint brush Maybe I was too late but it got blossom end rot and fell off the plant 🤔
