@dutchyjamholland9296
every driver should do an e-learning course on changes to the highway code at least annually
Comment from : @dutchyjamholland9296

@nonegiven9579
Last week I was cycling in a group on a cycle path which crossed the entrance to a filling station A (Porsche ) driver arrived at speed ,sounded his horn, cut through the cyclists shouting 'F**k Off Out the Way' I told him he should read the Highway code He replied 'You're a F**king Tw*t

@playerovgy
Great video!! Especially at 4 minutes 45 seconds Thank you!!
Comment from : @playerovgy

@ianhill4585
Just out of curiosity what is the new rules for cycles and E scooters about distance they should give us ,when they are nearly knocking us over on the pavement or whilst we are on Zebra crossings ,or they are riding through red lights? brNo mention of that? -------- brNo thought not
Comment from : @ianhill4585

@calumbutter6124
Thanks for making this video Ashley
Comment from : @calumbutter6124

@calumbutter6124
Is the 15/2 meter distance rule measured to the motor vehicles mirror or the body of the vehicle?brI am hoping it is to the mirror
Comment from : @calumbutter6124

@illegalopinions4082
0:25 How does someone behind you hace priority That's ridiculous The cyclist shouldve slowed
Comment from : @illegalopinions4082

@Sabah16
A lot lot of information ✅✅✅ thanks 👍
Comment from : @Sabah16

@karlgreene2177
Cars often turn left after passing you or stop dead and sadly it's just tough luck!
Comment from : @karlgreene2177

@cyclingSausage
The majority of drivers are either ignorant of the rules or just choose to ignore them
Comment from : @cyclingSausage

@colonelturmeric558
Shame cyclists mostly just ignore rules when it suits, like passing parked cars when they do not have ROW and a car is approaching on the opposite lane, ignoring red lights, ignoring 20mph limits, hopping up on the pavement to undertake parked buses, cycle out at junctions and roundabouts at full speed without even looking, etc etc I salute any cyclist who obeys the code as you would in a motor vehicle, but in my experience that is a minority as many of these cases have happened in front of me
Comment from : @colonelturmeric558

@wwv
laws without public education is just a revenue generator for the state
Comment from : @wwv

@fredashay
The problem I see with the situation at 3:00 is that the blue car turning left is, essentially, being required to cut across two lanes of traffic to take his exit This is no different whatsoever than a motorist on the motorway in the 2nd lane suddenly cutting across the 1st lane to get on the slip road / exit ramp to exit the motorway -- an incredibly dangerous and reckless maneuver -- but you're expecting motorists to do this dangerous maneuver routinely because cyclists are given preferential treatment, even though cyclists are often invisible to motorists by virtue of being small and often in the motorists' blind spot This law is beyond unfair to motorists, and is insanely dangerous for cyclists
Comment from : @fredashay

@paulmetz2708
I think it unfair car drivers can be persecuted and identified with video evidence when a cyclist can get away with their indiscretions by having no means of identification ie number plate Shouldn't it be a level playing field?
Comment from : @paulmetz2708

@johnwaller4033
I also think cyclist should be made to use cycle path if they are there there is a lovely cycle path near me that runs along side the road that as barriers between the road and footpath but for some reason alot of cyclists will not use it
Comment from : @johnwaller4033

@dessmith7658
A recipe for disaster all of it, that's why I've stopped travelling brByee
Comment from : @dessmith7658

@billhall8745
Turning left you would not cut across other vehicles on the left OK With other vehicles you would have moved into the left lane so that there was nothing on the left to cut across Today eight young cyclists racing and overtaking each other coming towards me on my left 🙂
Comment from : @billhall8745

@ddgg2074
Thumbs up if you think cyclists should be banned from roads!! Enough is enough
Comment from : @ddgg2074

@SEPK09
Some bizarre and unsafe rules, aside from common sense same as the rule of bikes can now ride side by side totally insane !
Comment from : @SEPK09

@Cleo-von-Patra-11-11
I think the UK Government owe EVERYONE one after their appalling 'partygate' scandal!!🤣
Comment from : @Cleo-von-Patra-11-11

@andrewjackson9741
Hi been watching you for a couple of years now cant fault you at all As a class 1 driver 18 years with respect for ALL road users and public do you think learners should have an hour or so in a hgv simulator to see how difficult it can be on buissy rounderbouts and junctions wen 44 ton "ish"?
Comment from : @andrewjackson9741

@bowman4275
The rule "At a junction you should give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which or from which you are turning" is understandable but will only work if everyone is on the same page But that is NOT the case I am NOT going to hold up traffic behind me, waiting for a pedestrian who does not realise they have the right of way Most pedestrians just want you to turn and get out of their way!
Comment from : @bowman4275

@petyrkowalski9887
As a motorist and a cyclist I am always horrified how many drivers will try as hard as possible to get past youeven in a 20 limit in order to brake and turn left across you They gain nothing and create a very dangerous situation
Comment from : @petyrkowalski9887

@TheMentalblockrock
How about doing a video about cyclists bad behaviour? I've seen far more bad use of the road from cyclists in central London than from motor vehicles
Comment from : @TheMentalblockrock

@madhatter61
Conquer driving has done a good video on the updates and assumptions
Comment from : @madhatter61

@madhatter61
I think the interpretation of these rules is different to how they were meant to be honest
Comment from : @madhatter61

@miles-thesleeper-monroe8466
A great analysis Ashley Can I just put in some context to these rule changes for consideration Those of us like yourself who are civilised human beings are more than happy to comply with rules of safety, courtesy and exposing dickhead behaviour BUT the ONLY reason we're getting "caring" law updates all of a sudden from nobody's election manifesto is because our political parties are all signed up to the phoney CO2 agenda I'm a veteran professional in the highway design industry so feel qualified to comment Your tax money is doled out by central government to sustain our transport system From a pothole to a new motorway, it's govt money and rules All they are now spending money on is schemes which are preparing for the next wave of so called green laws After working a 12 hour shift as a midwife, or delivering a thousand letters on foot, or standing in a shop all day, you will have no choice but to get on your bicycle and ride the 7 miles there and back Doesn't matter if you live in a hilly area Doesn't matter if piss poor winter starts for you in Sept and finishes in June You're on your bike Don't believe me? Wait till they finally price you out of owning a car Can't get a stricter rule than that Look into it people
Comment from : @miles-thesleeper-monroe8466

@ProTantoQuid
Your clip illustrating overtaking a cyclist showed the cyclist near the kerb, in good visibility and on a relatively straight piece of road A different scenario - cyclist towards the centre of the road, in poor visibility, near a bend presents a different challenge; a dangerously different challenge
Comment from : @ProTantoQuid

@Anonymous-vh6kp
I’ve just bought an e-bike with the intention of cycling to work every day I’m petrified Thanks for spreading the word Ashley
Comment from : @Anonymous-vh6kp

@TimpBizkit
The problem is having a cycle lane to go straight ahead, to the left of a lane drivers can turn left from This is why I leave the cycle lane in areas people are likely to turn left Urban areas with lots of junctions I ride in primary position
Comment from : @TimpBizkit

@iantheinventor8151
Passing cyclists doesn’t have any rules on the distance or so Lancashire Police tell me whenever I report close passes & they refuse to take action
Comment from : @iantheinventor8151

@JakobusVdL
It sounds like these rules should make life safer for cyclists in the UK But, I'll still work from the point of view of assuming drivers are likely to make mistakes, and take nothing for granted
Comment from : @JakobusVdL

@nua1234
Interestingly in Ireland, it is explicitly illegal for a cyclist to undertake vehicle if it interferes with a vehicle turning (when the vehicle is indicating)brbrThis change was introduced a few years ago, to improve safety
Comment from : @nua1234

@ExploringCampanologist
Nice video, Very well explained, I think the Highway code applies to everyone and we should all give consideration on the road, brBut now with 20mph limits in most towns we have Electric Mountain Bikes & Electric Scooters that can go over 20mph, cyclists overtaking cars and driving down the middle white line and against traffic on the wrong side of the road which is much faster speed than a traditional cycle & faster than the speed limit, brI think Electric Cycles that can go fast should be registered like a motorized form of transport when they are on the road
Comment from : @ExploringCampanologist

@glosfishgb6267
maybe its time that all road users apart from perdestrians are required to be carrying a copy of the latest highway code when useing the roads to include everyone horse push bike car users and so on
Comment from : @glosfishgb6267

@JmeJ83
What a waste of taxpayers money it was to create all those cycling lanes 🤦‍♂️
Comment from : @JmeJ83

@capnpugwash5403
There is no doubt there are selfish and thoughtless careless drivers out there, just as there are "entitled" cyclists While I hope I have always left clearances for riders, and certainly would not have raced a cyclist to the corner to make a left turn in front of them, I do fear putting it in writing will make some of our more precious riders even more of a jobsworth than they are already creating a situation akin to the well meant do not slap children rules which young children can and will become aware of and bully parents and carers with their new found power At the same time bringing forth an uncontrollable generation Adding even more pressure to the already breaking down society In short their should be enough legislation to penalise drivers without it being in small print
Comment from : @capnpugwash5403

@liamscott555
Angry is my response, not at the changes, but the dvsa's lack of clarity and the lack of a publicity campaign, along with msm spreading dangerous miss information, your videos have explained more than government sources on this, there is a lack of information, along with an assumption that pedestrians should just take the priority for crossing, it's my understanding that they should only cross when able to still, and the lack of defined junction here, a few weeks ago i went through a set of road work traffic lights on green, and the car in front stopped to let pedestrians cross the road, the markings were stupid and the council should have moved the pedestrian crossing points in my opinion, but this car stopped in a dangerous situation, given also rules state no stopping past lights, i had never seen this happen before the change to the rules, so defiantly not a coincidence that this happened right after the rule changes, i know for a fact that isn't what you're meant to do, specifically since there was set up crossing points for pedestrians which linked into the 4 way traffic light set up, but the driver in front was no doubt confused about the rules, and was just trying to do the right thing, the gov really need to step up, because this is an utter shambles, and i feel less safe driving, more pedestrians just step out now, how is that improving road safety?
Comment from : @liamscott555

@deetesmin
As someone very smart once said, the law's an ass This change to the Highway code clearly illustrates this
Comment from : @deetesmin

@carolined5923
The rule for letting a cycle through on say the left,coming straight on when you a car infront of them needs to turn left is asking for trouble, much safer for all concerned to treat the cycle as a vehicle and so as another vehicle they would have to wait while the vehicle ahead turned left Wonder how many will end up in a collision because the vehicle driver did not see, either a blind spot, cyclist not looking, vehicle driver not looking or all concerned misjudged, regardless it wont give people back their limbs or lives Common sense is best and keeps everyone safe, this part of the rule is not common sense
Comment from : @carolined5923

@davej-r9153
These amendments are going to cause unintended injury to cyclists and pedestrians and hurt car drivers who are unaware of the new rules
Comment from : @davej-r9153

@grahamhall8249
I think cyclists should be made to get insurance!
Comment from : @grahamhall8249

@Velobetty
Absolutely agree that cyclists should remain in primary position, if they are in that position, and not pass on the left of a vehicle if the driver of that vehicle was turning Taking primary would allow a cyclist to pass more safely on the right of a vehicle
Comment from : @Velobetty

@chrisemblen7812
These have been really useful, thanks & 170K views is great but a "Clunk Click Every Trip" type National campaign is needed They type of cyclist/driver that needs to know is unlikely to be watching your channel
Comment from : @chrisemblen7812

@jamieniche
Why not also introduce some rules for cycling Surely mandatory helmets would save some lives
Comment from : @jamieniche

@niamhc7369
This isn't relevant at all to the video but I just noticed that you never blink
Comment from : @niamhc7369

@fatbillslim
How far away from the junction is the give way?
Comment from : @fatbillslim

@justcallmesuperdave1
A driving instructor was parked his engine may or may not have been running in a cycle lane with broken white lines but there were double yellow lines adjacent to the kerb The instructor was sitting alone in the driver's seat I stopped and told him that he shouldn't be parked there He commented about the broken white lines not being a solid white line, which I understand However, I mentioned the double yellow lines He told me to read the Highway Code He wasn't 'loading' a pupil and he wasn't 'unloading' a pupil Was I correct?
Comment from : @justcallmesuperdave1

@badsmel1741
This is all well and good but considering what seems to be the vast majority don't signal or abide by traffic lights this is just going to make life more irritating
Comment from : @badsmel1741

@ranasheirtaoni5372
Can you please make video on giving way incoming vehicles by flash how do you communicate with other signs 🤘 rather than flash if they are fare and can not see your hand signal is flashing in coming illegal and how much is the fine thanks 😍
Comment from : @ranasheirtaoni5372

@bobsanoldun
It helped, thanks
Comment from : @bobsanoldun

@alankirkby465
I personally believe the Highway code, sounds too weak/benign, should be named/called, Highway LawbrAnyway, Peace to all
Comment from : @alankirkby465

@shady8479
If the car is signalling left, the bicycle should not go down the left side of the car as i saw in your video
Comment from : @shady8479

@FlyingFun
These rules are needed because people have no common sense, unfortunately people will still not have the sense needed to follow these rules in way that's they are intendedbrI will continue to walk cycle and drive assuming that everyone around me is an idiot trying to kill mebrIt's worked pretty well so far
Comment from : @FlyingFun

@iainmillington904
If I was a cyclist I wouldn’t put my life at risk
Comment from : @iainmillington904

@troyjollimore4100
Has to be written down In my part of Canada, we had an out and out case of a motorist mowing down a cyclist at an intersection, though it was more than likely accidental However, no charges were laid, because what a bicycle ‘is’ was not clearly defined enough in the Vehicle Code… 🤦‍♂️
Comment from : @troyjollimore4100

@tc5290
It’s a great update, if only Ireland followed in suit rather than relying on English amendments Unfortunately, the vulnerable road users of whom this targets, likely won’t have awareness of the detail I suppose this is why it’s useful to give maximum priority, ie not just that they’re vulnerable, but that they are least likely to know about the code Unlike bigger vehicle driver who most likely should know about it Thanks for the breakdowns Ashley, they’re very useful
Comment from : @tc5290

@arthurshelby6634
Let's be realistic, most people won't care about these rules or follow them (myself included)
Comment from : @arthurshelby6634

@ghenadiedidenco
Everything what is on the road should follow highway code Since is on the road respect highway code Everything Even bicyclists Keep distance and give priority Defensive riding Riding
Comment from : @ghenadiedidenco

@dannyboywhaa3146
Totally dangerous most people are incapable of achieving this 100 of the time cyclists are often in your blind spot Was safer when the cyclist was expected to wait for a car turning left
Comment from : @dannyboywhaa3146

@vinhosten176
Already do this AustraliabrTook a year but everyone works it out
Comment from : @vinhosten176

@ianprince1698
I try to be aware of children on the footpath and slowdown could a parent actually stop their child from stepping off the pavement(footpath) in time
Comment from : @ianprince1698

@alexandersmith8241
Complete and utter lunacy, cyclists now have been given 100 permission to ride as they please and if anything happens its not their fault No wonder they are despised by many other road users who pay to use roads, who are insured and who can be identified What is the point of using indicators if cyclists can simply carry on and undertake as they please without having to wait until the indicating vehicle is clear Madness, obviously rule changes made by cyclists for cyclists
Comment from : @alexandersmith8241

@diabeticfridge2930
Only this morning I've had a car stop on a main road while turning left into a side road, to let me cross a junction, and the car behind her almost drove into the back of her car I refused to cross the road until she had completed her left turn into the side road these rule changes are complete madness, my parents taught me to give way to vehicles on the road, it's called the green cross code
Comment from : @diabeticfridge2930

@diabeticfridge2930
For Christ's sake this is all common sense
Comment from : @diabeticfridge2930

@anj_____m
cyclists are definitely 2nd class citizens
Comment from : @anj_____m

@rowley5784
If Cyclists are now afforded all these rights on the road it is time they contributed to the upkeep in the form of a cyclist tax
Comment from : @rowley5784

@donaldsmith9763
When I was learning to drive 30 years ago my driving instructor told me I should always think ahead and show common sense for everyone on the road or path as you don't know what there gonna do
Comment from : @donaldsmith9763

@zahaidrahman2052
These rules don't make the roads safer, they make them more dangerous for everyone!
Comment from : @zahaidrahman2052

@dnorm
Now just to wait and see the accident rates climb as long time drivers find the new rules preposterous Being a cyclist as well as a driver, I welcome the changes As for your speed when passing comment, bicycles are not required to have speedometers fitted, so quantifying it would be hard to enforce
Comment from : @dnorm

@ancientrenegade9243
These rule were made to frustrate motorists The commitee that wrote them said as much Cycle lanes encourage undertaking and riding in blind spots
Comment from : @ancientrenegade9243

@eljay5009
3:30 This should already be covered by rule 74brbrbrTurning When approaching a junction on the left, watch out for vehicles turning in front of you, out of or into the side road If you intend to turn left, check first for other cyclists or motorcyclists before signalling Do not ride on the inside of vehicles signalling or slowing down to turn leftbrbrIf a cyclist moves from primary position behind the car to take a priority position on the left of the car when it starts to indicate to turn left - the cyclist is in contravention of rule 74
Comment from : @eljay5009

@markharris1223
Sadly, for as long as there are individuals who would seek to claim, irrespective of cost, the rights newly bestowed upon them, such revisions are doomed to failure Stand by for a wave of horizontal pedestrians whose last words are: "It was my right of way!" Start imposing "points" on drunken and careless pedestrians and cyclists (even before they have a driving licence, as happens in Germany), start imposing some REAL penalties on wicked drivers, and much more will be achieved Outside multi-storey carparks in Germany is to be seen a sign reminding users that the Straßenverkehrsordnung (Highway Code) applies in full measure in the carpark Result: fewer accidents
Comment from : @markharris1223

@philkelly4732
Roundabouts are Junctions? True or False? (I believe you may have mentioned this recently?)
Comment from : @philkelly4732

@paultetlow5367
If you are turning left and a cyclist is behind you, treat the cycle lane as the left lane, block the lane by moving to the left Many cyclists think that they have priority because they came up the inside of the vehicle wanting to turn left, they don't If your intentions are clear, the cyclists should give way, if they won't, they will become a statistic
Comment from : @paultetlow5367

@pilgrimoutdoors-uk6177
Brilliant and informative video (and channel), nice work 👊🏻 brCan be summed up like this though - 'The new rules are total and utter bollocks'
Comment from : @pilgrimoutdoors-uk6177

@briantitchener4829
I reckon these new rules are going to INCREASE accident figures in the foreseeable future, not reduce them Should have left things as they were Government meddling at its finest This is going to backfire
Comment from : @briantitchener4829

@bythesea2784
When I was 16 1st time I ride on the pavement I a £30 fine, now everyone who ride on it and jump the red lights these people should be paying the just like rd users so next thses people will think twice no to do it again And the most dangerous people's Have they bikes taken away from them
