This has to be the dumbest thing that I've ever heard That's his solution seriously?!?! I'm no lawn or tree expert, but this seriously must be for the lazy person that doesn't want a beautiful yard How many people did this man con out of money doing their yards and tree work? I pray that he learned the correct way and started being an honest person to his clients Comment from : Amanda Sanford |
This" tree expert " failed to impress me Does anyone know is theres a way to have the roots grow deeper underground naturally? I have what I believe is a young elm tree thats just taking off and was looking for a natural way to train the roots I thought maybe expose them as much as possible so they go deeper on there own but I just don't know if this will work Any suggestions anyone? Comment from : Steve Adamo |

As we speak we are getting hard winds, the tree in my back yard at the base the ground is slightly moving with the wind blowing Do I need to worry or is this normal Should I cut the tree down? The tree is 40feet tall and about 2 feet wide Canopy starts about 15 ft Need help?!? Comment from : Richard Mauch |
So after reading the commentswhich crack me up by the way, is that there are good sides to each point Here is my somewhat solution to each side if there is one brbr To save the health of the tree you don't want to mow over the roots as well as cutting them out which damages the structural integrity over time as stated Nobody wants a yard of mulch To somewhat meet in the middle is that unfortunately one must trim with a weedeater around the roots and mow in areas that you can It may take extra time but its a "somewhat" solution Comment from : Jeremiah Sandstrom |
Is this the guy they call Einstein? Geez, what a waste of time this video Comment from : lightspeed horse |

What a great idea I'll just mulch my entire backyard The kids will love that Not to mention the resale value I can advertise it as a low maintenance yard and throw my mower away Comment from : just snuggle |
No, Davey, the roots are not close to the surface because they're "swamp" trees that have evolved generationally this way I can't imagine whose lessons you're repeating there but the real reason in most cases is sporadic, infrequent rainfall, even irrigation systems contribute (also thundershowers) that translates to a sparse water source Roots follow the water hence they come to the surface via a process called desertification, maybe look it up! When watering most people fail to consider duration, they will water frequently, even daily and twice daily but forget that short watering intervals don't allow the water to seep down into the soil These folks would be better off watering once or twice a week for longer periods of time, but try teaching the masses that Anyhow, this frequent short interval watering draws the roots to the surface Comment from : Pascals Videos |
My goodness! That's not a practical fix Why would anyone waste time creating a video like this? Comment from : Bill Thornton |

Ya just replace your grass with mulch That will look great 👍🏻 Comment from : phenosin1 |
How do you get rid of that grass without damaging the roots? Do you just cover the grass with a mulch and will this cause the grass to gradually quit growing altogether? But don’t I need to put down an edging in the diameter of area I want filled with mulch also? Comment from : earl0520 |
Nobody needs this video to have come up with that idea Hahahaha! I thought this was gonna actually show something that was gonna take care of the problem Comment from : HQLB Productions |

Roots are growing under my sidewalk and pushing it upbrNeed a solution tyhat does not include cutting down the treebrAre there any?brThanks Comment from : A145084 DAVE |
Not an arborist, but my understanding these roots are called buttress roots and provide support for the tree If you cut them you are going to take away structural support, so your tree is more prone to topple from storms Also, if you want to add soil and make a landscaped bed, the added grade will suffocate the roots and lead to eventual decline and possibly death The only option I was told by Davey was to add mulch Luckily I have some trees on the edge of my property and I don't mind loosing some lawn there Comment from : Josh |
Seriously not helpful Comment from : Jessica Zahradka |
horrible video Comment from : Kbalz Bar |

Stupid! Comment from : Dub V |
yea because doing this will work for everyone what kind of expert are you Comment from : THE AUTO BODY GUY |
Ideally turf shouldn't be within the drip-line of a tree (I'd recommend at least 4-6" radius of mulch every 1" diameter of tree) Turf will sometimes encourage roots to grow closer the surface being more of a problem Other times soil could have washed away over time causing the roots to appear which could be fixed with more topsoil Comment from : DEmersonJMFM |
covering my entire yard with mulch is not an option, removing the trees are not an option, how do I remove the above ground roots? Comment from : ihoppoet |
what if i don't want to have a yard full of mulch? Comment from : Music Sweet Music |
I have the same issue, I was thinking about adding 3-4 inches of topsoil over the root system, this tree has exposed roots more on the sides and back half, makes cutting difficult and a lot of time spent with the weed whipper Local lawn and gardening shop wants 30$ per yard plus a 30$ delivery with a 2 yard minimum I may also just mulch around it, but it'll be a large radius and I think it'll look very odd and tacky The surface is about 800 sq ft Comment from : Michael Uncapher |
That is not a practical solution for a large of people Comment from : Kelly Crenshaw |
Holy crap! Our backyard is about 70 exposed tree roots There goes the lawn! We'll call it the "backmulch" Comment from : tenmilliondollarsnow |
