I tend to think that FPGA mining ease of use is directly tied to the attention it's getting I spoke with a developer at one point and it really just seems like there's not enough people that are in to it to bring it forward They really are the best kind of chips out there but they need developers that are willing to do the work to match the right algorithms with the right chips Some FPGAs are perfect for one algorithm but they're impossible to make efficient for others That doesn't mean they can't be useful Right now there's a guy on YouTube (FPGA Zealot) who's currently working on making an algorithm that may actually get them doing useful things with SHA256 (I think), but he's pretty much the only one FPGAs might have a steady lead on ASICs if people worked on them and made it easier to deal with
