I clean aquariums for a living and I absolutely hate acrylic glass It’s impossible to clean and it scratches easily
Comment from : John Smith

Raymond Olivares
I was just gifted a used 15yr old 220gal acrylic tank I’ve noticed some crazing on parts of the side and front panels My concern is the crazing, will the tank end up failing due to the crazing?
Comment from : Raymond Olivares

I choose all glass why it's tested and true They can do more with glass now ever before What's acrylic you're not a lightweight when you add water into it it equals the same as if it was glass

I kinda like these videos more than the videos he posts now, there's a lot more clarity, and more information, just may not be as engaging
Comment from : Otto1435

my acrylic tank took a wayward shot from a BB gun it left a small crack but that didn't go all the way through the material and it still holds water
Comment from : Dorian Shepard

Glass because its way cheaper
Comment from : Sarah Hávilla Melo Oliveira

whiskers78753
for large aquariums I would pick acrylic specifically due to weight (density)
Comment from : whiskers78753

Bret Leversha
Can you get decent acrylic tanks with complete filtration systems, led lighting & a stand?
Comment from : Bret Leversha

ajoyrod
I like acrylic because it's lighter & lasts longer Thanks for this video Now I know for sure I have to redo the silicone on my 10 gallon aquarium as I have no idea of its true age as it was given to me by my dad who got it from his sister (my Aunt) I have had it for almost 10 yrs & the last thing I used it for was my purple pincer hermit crabs who now have a brand new 20 gallon long for just the 4 of them
Comment from : ajoyrod

Little Village Pythons
I’m new to acrylic tanks Do you use foam under the acrylic tanks I heard that it puts excess pressure on the bottom seams not to do it I asked clear for life and they said it don’t need it but is ok to use Lol very vage response This is my first acrylic tank don’t want 75g on my floor
Comment from : Little Village Pythons

Bryan Cook
what you have left out is that acrylic has a life spane and will deterioraet and it become brittle over time when glass duse not You have all so left out that the acrylic as it deteriorates the clarity will drop significantly and glass duse not The other very important point you have mist is the fact that acrylic can warp over time and it will happen fast in hotter climates and glass duse not
Comment from : Bryan Cook

D S
My LFS near Seattle does not sell acrylic tanks

Is tensile strength what your looking for if you don’t want the weight of the water to break glass?
Comment from : DOOR STOPPERS

Meco
What would you recommend for a 1,000 gal aquarium (1,077 gal specifically)? It’d measure 8ft x 6ft x 3ft Can you still use a silicone caulk for an aquarium that size, and made with acrylic? Or do you bind it some other way?brbrEdit: 3ft is the height
Comment from : Meco

Mary Lewis

Hello Thank very much for this wonderful information After watching this video I’m encouraged to build the aquarium by using acrylic Actually I could find only 10mm thickness of clear acrylic in my place is this enough to tank of 2m x 6m height x 22 m thickness ? And one more thing I couldn’t find acrylic cement can you delivered to my country with anti-scratch material? Thanks

What about plywood?

ghos282
Which material holds up better to long-term incidental Ultra Violet exposure? Not every set-up is going to be in a completely blacked out from all UV light exposure Basement All plastics begin to degrade with exposure to UV Eventually becoming very brittle And in this circumstance, under the stress of the heavy weight of the water pressure
Comment from : ghos282

Ashish Kumar
hey bro brthis is Ashish from India brif the size of aquarium is 11 feet long 8 feet broad and 6 feet height what should I use glass or acrylics and what adhesive I must use for best strength

Hi Good info I'm planning to make an aquarium with 244cm x 122 cm x80 cm I'm using Arcylic glasses and I'm wondering which thickness should I go with?! I'm thinking in 19 mm Is that safe and secure enough for such tank?! Any advice?!
Comment from : Ali Mohamed

Ryan Mitchell
I'm wanting to make an aquarium from cast clear acrylic but I was wondering in terms of volume, how often and what thickness of acrylic is needed as the volume increases?
Comment from : Ryan Mitchell

Cat Zawadzski
I'll stick with glass I've had a forty seven gallon corner tank for 15 years with no leaks or scratches I've had a six gallon acrylic tank for the same amount of time Thankfully with no scratches The problem becomes that the acrylic tank cost nearly twice as much as the glass tank They were both bought as kits with lights and filter The glass tank also came w/ a stand
Comment from : Cat Zawadzski

Mosy Mosahima
does the silicone seams in glass last 10 years when fully submerged/used or 10 years under wet or dry application? my 10 gallon maybe around 12 years old and no leak, but maybe a total of 5/6 years being used and spend thebrest if the time in storage
Comment from : Mosy Mosahima

Comment from : AquaGeek

Chaitanya Vedak
do what the Pro's at the Newsroom do Put a sheet of Acrylic at 45° in front of the Camera, with a Black Shroud Keep your Script on a backlit table, or better still, use your laptop with the screen flat down, and now you will save time with lesser BloopersbrAlthough bloopers are fun to view :D
Comment from : Chaitanya Vedak

Chaitanya Vedak
Amazing BroTip I meant ProTip :DbrI would Definitely go for an Acrylic Tank with some Plywood BackingbrThanks a Liter :D
Comment from : Chaitanya Vedak

shawn owen
thanks to ur diy videosi have been taking old tanks and bring them back to life so the ones that can't buy new tanks still get the same look of a new tank all the way down to the custom made wet dry system about to build a 160 gallon tank for the first tank build thanks for all the tip and tricks
Comment from : shawn owen

nicadmous
Acrylic all the way! Bowed front?! Ugly?!?! Of course if they're built incorrectly! I have a custom built 240 gallon with 1 inch thickness and it's absolutely perfect!!! I've had a 60, 40, and 150 gallon glass aquarium and nothing beats the clarity of acrylic!
Comment from : nicadmous

LordStDennis
How come Nobody ever considers polycarbonate for building an aquarium?
Comment from : LordStDennis

LordStDennis
How about gluing thin sheets of glass over the acrylic for scratch protection?
Comment from : LordStDennis

David94591
I pick glass I have seen horrible looking acrylic tanks that are blurry and bowed
Comment from : David94591

Mike Rupertus
totally like your videos and info  I may not have the experience you do but have had lots of tanks over the years, both glass and acrylic   The technical stuff is nice you present in your video but the real world choice is glass for me   Just better overall, cannot justify against your technical stuff - but glass is better and more desirable
Comment from : Mike Rupertus

Maddoxx343
you should mention price in the checklist keep it up bro
Comment from : Maddoxx343

TFYFWYA
do you think it's feasible to make several small nanos out of acrylic? Glass is much easier for me to source
Comment from : TFYFWYA

Mike Morehouse
I still say glass, the fact that acrylic scratches so easily ruins the whole thing for me I have one acrylic tank and I hate it, the only reason I have it is because it's holding a 7" peacock mantis shrimp
Comment from : Mike Morehouse

Christian Harnisch
Much like most of your videos it was great I've only had glass tanks but, the thought of building an acrylic tank sounds very appealing I would assume that you could build one for much cheaper Could you possibly do a comparison video of the different types of filters Ie hob, canister, sump, and refugiums? I would really enjoy knowing the positives, and negatives Thanks again for sharing your vast aquarium knowledge with the rest of us!
Comment from : Christian Harnisch

Steve
What would I do?brI have considered acrylic for a 8x2x2 foot tank My concern is however you will need a very thick piece of acrylic for that much water correct?brHow will that seam over such a thickness I'll ask the same question your facebook, if you have the time can you please reply
Comment from : Steve

Steve
Just for fun you should wear a green shirt next video :P

Crap Joey, that was like sitting through a college lecture, except I was actually paying attention! LOL Some really helpful information!
Comment from : ReeferGil

Michael allen
i have 2 glass aquariums and some day ill have acrylic just because it has scratches never makes a tank useless i know tons of acrylic owners who use old scratched up ones for plant grow out tanks breeder tanks quarantine tanks because unlike glass they dont shatter and rarely do the mess up unless they were sealed wrong and i have resealed a glass tank and its not all that easy of a task cleanup is annoying and the acetone smell can make some sick good job on the vidios joey,
Comment from : Michael allen

Sam
The main concern I have with building with acrylic is how permanent the seal is once you weld it If you make a mistake it is hard to undo Glass allows a little more room for error
Comment from : Sam

allturdmind
going rimless soon will diy thanks joey
