the ISS took 10 years to complete and that was with a dedicated plan in place, space shuttles, and enough allocated money right now we cant get a manned rocket into space at all here in the USA our failure to continue the Apollo and similar programs and continue to visit the moon in the last 50 years has been our Achilles heel We have 6 years to get our stuff together and come up with a suitable replacement or we fall even further behind as the ISS crashes into the sea I think it will not be possible The loss of the ISS without a replacement will set us back another 20 years at least Elon Musk WILL NOT lead us to mars, that should be obvious by now

The reason the voyage will take a minimum of 2 years is because the launch window is only every 26 months So you cannot just go take a walk and fly back ( It takes 7 months to get to Mars, therefore the launch window is not right to fly back right away) This is why a Habitat has to be built before you go Very complicated
