I've been trying a group of billmen with some pikes mixed in not had the opportunity to really test it against a cav army but they kill infantry and small numbers of cav pretty well

The advantage of 3 line pikes is that you trap a lot more cavalry and holding them in place means you ca do more damage before they run and suffer less losses in general this is all my opinion of course i could be wrong

I see that cavalry can still push through the two-line formation, even though suffering losses What abou two formations behind each other? That way if the cavarly pushes through, they will get stuck on the second formation and sandwiched between the pikes with no escape route

I structure my army with 80 archers in single formation 10 infantry and 10 calvary I line my archers in single file and with the infantry and calvary behind When the enemy infantry pushes forward their advance in line formation with shields up and get to within 30 meters I charge in my infantry clustered together followed by a calvary charge when my infantry is 5 meters from engaging their line Their infantry and calvary with charge and cluster together in a circle disorganized and their line infantry will drop their shield wall the engage My archers with shower arrows into the cluster and devastate their numbers quickly you will lose most of your infantry doing this but you will crush their army It is crucial your archers stay in single line formation and you will beat odds of 3 to 1 even if half their force is heavy calvary your archers should be your best unit infantry units can just be peasants it doesn't really matter

Spears have needed help since day 1, in arena it’s a death sentence and the AI hasn’t been able to leverage them well Bracing is going to be a huge game changer, actually have a reason to get pike infantry Still need to make short spears useable, the requirement for space directly behind you to build enough momentum to do damage kills it and there’s no reason to use a stick that consistently gets 15-20 damage per poke If it doesn’t fizzle out because of infantry behind you

Makes sense it would be devastating to a horse though They basically impale themselves on the spear In middle school I got to take an elective class on survival training and we learned to do this if we were ever being run down by a bear lmao Think that's what the spartan kid in 300 did too Idk how it would work on a bear but cool that it's based on what was historically done in combat against large animals
