I think that for me, cards with flexible currencies that can be used for either cash back or travel with low annual fees are the sweet spot That way you have flexibility without the pressure to use credits or to have a high level of spending on a particular card or within a particular ecosystem For low annual fee or no annual fee cards issued by Chase, Citi, and Capital One, I don’t think they really care how much you spend as long as you’re using the card with some frequency, and you don’t have any pressure to use credits to avoid losing money on the card This is valuable when you want a shift in focus from spending to saving (if you’re like me, there’s a time for spending and a time for saving, depending on what you have going on in your life at the time, such as last year when I bought a house and had to buy furniture, pay moving expenses, etc, and it made sense to use that as an opportunity to earn a signup bonus) A low pressure setup with flexible currencies works no matter what your focus is at the time while still allowing you to maximize your return on spend Comment from : Boon Doggle |
