The main problem with bitcoin is volatility When states trade between each other, they want to make sure that the money they receive are somewhat stable Gold is backed by its practical usage (demand), bitcoin is not backed by anything, so it will always be volatile

Gold requires no intermediary It’s true peer to peer Nothing against #BTC at all, but it seems to me that you still need strike or some custodian to send it from one person to another How many can “send/spend” BTC without using a 3rd party? I think BRICS is doomed to fail because it relies on trust Trust between known bad actors no less Each member retains control over the issuance of it's own fiat currency, so every member is trusting the other not to inflate their currency For example India could inflate theirs, while remaining in the BRICS system, thus effectively piggy backing off the other members It's prisoner's dilemma the incentive is to defect, and so they will Im sure they'd have some sort of agreement not to do that, but I can't see any real enforcement mechanism that would actually work BRICS would be dead on arrival
