Excuse me, but PURPLE in the stems of a plant is fine, and the OP would know this if he just did a little research brbrCOLD, and or sudden drops in temp makes Phosphorous manifest itself It's actually a leaching effect, and perfectly normal brbrIT IS NOT STRESS!!!brbrMof, the next time the temp drops suddenly in your area (usually late Summer or early Spring), notice the foxtail, or any othe weed, and you'll see the PURPLE brbrLeave it be!brbrbr🇺🇸 Comment from : whatsyurprob ? |

Gary, brbrI am in a community garden and have yellowing vegetable plants that have been in the ground for about one month A soil test kit revealed that the nitrogen is depleted, the phosphorous is deficient, and the potassium is adequatebrbrTwo days ago I gave the plants one application at half strength (2 Oz per gallon) of Agrothrive Should I stay the course with the Agrothrive and apply weekly at full strength or supplement with some other fast acting fertilizer?brbrThanks so much for your videos, Gary I have learned so much from you Comment from : Nancy R |

Can you tell me if you think my plant has a nitrogen problem? I transplanted a cherry tomato plant (in a pot) 10 days ago It developed yellow leaves ONLY at the bottom, by the soil, pretty quickly They are NOT yellow with green veins prominent They are yellow with brown edges I gave it organic fish emulsion the day I transplanted it (following directions about how much fish emulsion per gallon of water) Four days later I gave it a light epsom salt spray I kept it in a slightly shaded area outside for the first week so as not to shock it in bright hot sun right away I read that the yellowing of lower leaves could be from lack of sun I moved it to the sun and I have NOT added any more fertilizer or epsom salt spray I had cut off the initial yellow leaves and more have appeared, on the lower leaves Should I try fish emulsion again? That’s terrific advice Gary, thank you We had exactly that problem with our last season and the plants looked very sickly and thought it could be over watering (or perhaps to little) Plants were very well fertilised (maybe to much) fortunately we planted 120 so still got enough crop for the year But knowing what you have just told us I’ll follow your advice next season Thank you again Comment from : Terry Anderson |

Hey Gary, enjoyed seeing you visit my friend "Kimba" (Calikim) last week, was hoping I could ask a question; I live very close to her in SoCal, not 30 min away so you know my weather We have very dense soil since our tract was built into an area of demolished boulders I've amended of course, but only 2 years since I became a devoted gardener After I water, my soil returns to a very hard surface I'm already 4 months into growing of course (2 from seed, 2 in the earth) Can I top-dress with some growmulch or fresh potting soil to improve it a bit? I don't have a composter just yet so no compost (don't think they sell real compost at Lowes/HD) I've been hand-raking it to keep the soil from being so compacted I'm growing zucchini, squash and cucs in one garden, all tomatoes and basil in another The zucchini/squash/cuc garden is growing so slowly, healthy but not one is 18" tall yet in 2 mos I would ask for your solution for this season as I know it takes years to really improve poor soil Thanks for your valuable time Tommy Comment from : Tommy Daly |

Just wondering you give fish emulsion at the start which is good for root & leave Development But after 6 to 8 weeks you need to feed with a new fertilizer that will promote more tomatoes and sweeter tomatoes like 2-3-1 in a food fertilizer that you top dress once a month 3 times And soluble fertilizer in 8-32-16 or 6-24-24 I hope i have the NPK in the right ratio What water soluble would recommend and am i right in my steps As i add soluble fertilizer every 2 weeks I love your channel but could do a bit more on plants when there older Comment from : J B |

My black krim tomatoes are very young I noticed the stems are dark purplish, but I thought with type of tomato it might be normal The rest of the larger tomatoes are doing great, with a few exceptions of flea beetles that I've taken care of I'll give them a drink of fish this evening Thank you Comment from : Amy Starnes |
|
I don’t have fish emulsion but I have seaweed fertilizer, is that an adequate substitute? Comment from : Gardeningismytherapy |
|
This is why I plant a large number in black pots and keep them above ground until June Although I planted what will be my main season tomatoes at the same time, those that are in the pots are 6 times bigger and healthier You could spread a little black plastic strips around your raised beds and on the soil to help increase and keep the temperature up until real warmth arrives As temperatures continue to fall each growing season it would be best if you continue to adapt to cooler temperatures for spring and fall Comment from : Dave Meeks |
|
