Please Note:- You cannot connect the GPU Riser to your USB port The usb cable is just used as an alternative to a ribbon cable, there is no usb interface You cannot run the gpu riser from a usb port! Comment from : IMineBlocks |

WOW!!! Thank you so much for sharing this video I have an old IPISB-CU motherboard which I was planning on using for a simple home server I discovered one of these "risers, extenders, adapters etc" online in a market place I wasnt sure of the compatibility of these or how they worked Thanks for explaining the PCI-E and the peripherals it really helped me make a lot of sense in purchasing some of these to add on to my other motherboards and create a more optimal old PC with newer components Comment from : Ariel Martinez |
great demonstration however do pciex1 be able to give same performance from pciex16 since you are only plugging from x1 and will be using x16 card? Comment from : Technowulf TV |
Ribbon cables are awful for risers They are really clunky, cost more and are easy to accidentally rip as happened today :( Thankfully I saw this video while looking for alternatives and will buy this for my SFF pc Hope it works fine! Comment from : char |
You've just saved me buying something thats not right for my needs 5:12 you say that the USB cable can't plug into a USB port as that "simply wont work" and needs to connect to the PCIe mini card adaptor Is there "something" I can buy - a PCIe to USB that actually plugs into a USB port as I have a laptop and want to buy a riser-type "thing" to attempt to repair a graphics card So would need to see a video output and connect via USB-A or USB-C (or thunderbolt) to my laptop ? Comment from : ShR33k |
Informative, thanks! Comment from : Training |

Probably a dumb question: Adapter being 18 double sided pins (which is PCIe 1x pinout) doesn't bottlenech the expected 16x from extension riser? Comment from : dfelixpt |

I am a newby into PCIe cards, Would it be possible to connect the PCIe16x directly to a laptop (NO 1x PCIe) although slower ? Would my PCIe Card in the PCIe16x Extender work in my laptop just through the USB port although slower) ? (I know the PCIe bus is faster than the USB Bus ) Any info/input appreciated Comment from : Javier Gonzales |

Nice video, thanks Agree with the comment on plugging directly into the power supply, rather than using short adapter cables Some PSUs, even high wattage ones, can suffer from higher resistance caused by unnecessary connections One of our units burnt out when the cable melted, luckily we didn't have a fire Comment from : John Taylor |
Do you get any limitation of mining speed depending on what x type of pci slot you use? Comment from : traida111 |

is it not limiting the gpus speed/power? because instead of sitting on x16 he is actually on x1 Comment from : Refael Chaimov |
So the white slots are useless ? Comment from : Adesh Singh |
The are 2 problems with this setup, 1- you are reducing PC-E speed to 1 lane so if your card is PC-E 16x (16 Lane) and connecting using this adapter, it will drop to PCI-E 1x (1 Lane) , I would instead use a ribbon extender of 16x to 16x Comment from : bobsort |
Hi there, nice video Does plugging in via "only" pcie x1 effect the performance of the gpu? Comment from : Jackjude |

SATA extension risers have too many conflicts and glitches, I recommend PCI extension ribbon cables You can use multiple cables and put your video card at the other side of the room if you wantbrUSB extension risers are mostly just for the small PCIe slots that a PCI extension ribbon cable won't work inbrIf you have a mining board with multiple full PCI slots or if you have a gaming board with only a few full slots but a handful of small slots, 4 pin Mining boards are cheaper than all the hardware with normal 6gpu motherboards Comment from : MoVieZafterMidNiGhT |
