YouTube, did you send me this because of recent news for AMD? Comment from : orangeapples |

I'd definitely recommend using a NAS over a lot of SATA connected drives within the PC case Anything you need regular and high speed access to should be on a secondary nvme, like games etc, but long term high capacity storage can usually tolerate the 1 gbps or 10 gbps transfer speeds, and it's way more convenient than having to buy a big case just for drives Comment from : Lambda Function |
|
Most of the used computer parts aren't cheap enough to warrant buying used anywaybrbrWhy save 10 for a substantially bigger risk of it not lasting Comment from : Unbound |

I had a odd phenomenon to, when i was overclocking my ryzen 5 2600 on Prime95 my CPU didn't crash but when i stress test with OCCT in 40 seconds the CPU crash Comment from : Pedro Gonçalves |

Mining treats these things as "consumables" It's like, Do you want to buy a thrown out printer cartridge in the hopes of it serving you well for years to come? At laughably low prices, sure Comment from : K Gergő |

And that's why I undervolt the hell out of my processors My 5900x is running 41Ghz on all 12 cores at 0905v I run at 28 degrees ambient and 53C under heavy load Comment from : Fantasys Keep |
|
Steve is absolutely right about capacitors being the limiting factor in buying used video cards If they are the standard electrolytic type, they are very vulnerable to wearing out with 24/7 operation, especially if they aren't getting good airflow (like they are next to a big, hot heatsink) Comment from : Magnulus76 |
|
9:36 "80 is resonable" im already panicking when my cpu gets above 65 degrees (i5 6600k OC 42Ghz) Comment from : Methus |

Can you at some point cover the interdependence of the CPU, memory, the GPU, VRAM, and the PCI bus speed? I would like to understand how to best match the components in order to eliminate bottlenecks I know that if not matched, or not accounted for, that one component may have to ‘wait’ on another and this can slow the processes down It would be interesting to the interdependence of the components Thanks! Comment from : Barry Chickini |
|
Steve’s answer on buying used mining gpu’s still relevant today they could cut that out and just rerelease… Comment from : hster |
|
11:42 I would not buy a used GPU, period The fact that those Mining GPU's run 24/7 is already enough reason to not buy one Especially when, like right now, they try to get new MSRP prices out of it I am so not buying a GPU at new MSRP price, even if the GPU market is so crazy fucked up right now Comment from : Bizarro |

#AskGN What internal organ from my body is the safest to remove and sell so I can afford a 3080? Comment from : No No |

I've definitely gotten some really good used tech deals Just make sure to use something like ebay and check seller rating Most private sellers will have 100 positive feedback ratings over dozens or more sales Comment from : dogboy0912 |

Lots of reviews test CPUs via rendering and workloads but a lot of that is offloaded to the GPU, when offloading work to the GPU does the CPU make any difference at all? if so how much? Comment from : Rory |
|
Bought a mining sapphire rx580 8GB for 110$ It didn't work and I contacted the seller and he was really understanding and exchanged it for another one, which has been going strong for a year now Comment from : edge21str |

Voltage doesn't kill, amperage does Voltage is just a potential Heat is I squared R Resistance doesn't change but current increases increase heat exponentially Comment from : Stephen Durnan |
|
My 8 year old AMD 7950 has spent at least 3 years full time mining, rest of the time gaming Only the fans failed However the PCB is bent down I'd personally not trust a stranger to sell me any GPU, they are so expensive Comment from : Wheelie Perd |
|
Its kind of switched Older chips could take more voltages and it was heat that was the killer Nowadays with lower Nm Its voltage thats killing chips more than temperatures Todays cpu's typically run at higher temperatures Comment from : Lee Kirkman |
|
It is absolutely heat that kills CPUs For every 10 degrees centigrade, you lower the life of a semiconductor by 50 This is known and established research You don't have to burn CPUs to figure it out Comment from : Spencer |
|
amperage and heat Comment from : Durolith |

Steve, I'm contacting you from the future, you'll be very pleased to know that your hair is still luscious and fully brown I have to ask though What will you do when it starts to grey? I'd suggest dyeing it, otherwise you will look like a homeless Santa, it's not a good luck Fuck nature, you can't keep snapping underwear straps with grey hair bro GL HF Comment from : nanogeekpro2 |

Does that mean if you can get a higher clock without higher voltages and sufficient cooling, you won't degrade the CPU? Comment from : Hoseiko |

Intel will struggle even if they are number one, that's how greedy they are when it comes to implementing new technologies Luckily AMD is here to help everyone, showing that Intel didn't really made big investments in R&D for a new line of products Intel stood comfortably in their seat for too many years milking the cow dry Competition rules! Is it okay to buy used tables that were used to hold mining rigs Comment from : Llama |
|
@george lambros: if money ain't an issue than i can recommend thermaltake p3 or higher (with arm-wallmount if u want it flexible - but in any case a wallmount that's capable of at least 15, better 20kg), a NAS for your harddrives and in case of blueray drives external cases via USB (fe icy box) airflow shouldnt be a problem anymore and as long as you dont take a premade NAS solution like the WD ones i'd say u will enjoy itbrps: not saying WD is bad, but their main strength lies in the manufactoring of HDD and SSD, not hardware/software for making them safely accessable in networks Comment from : Hugin Phosphor |

Mined GPU? Would you buy something new (not enought reviews, marketlife) that might have a flaw (and in the worst case gets warranty-replaced with the same flawed model almost endlessly - rly happnd to me) or save money and buy something from someone who has for few years done a longtime stress/quality check (mining) for a GPU which has survived all of it (some didn't but it was the miners problem) I never forget my "brandnew" laptop which nvidia GPU solder melted after 25years Some months after warranty exipired Search for cooking GPU s a whole batch of nvidia products had bad solder quality and/or temperature problems Seriously consider getting used good and still working tek Have no problems w 1080Ti bought used (mined 3y) have been working for 2 years perfectly for me Comment from : Ex Ow |

I have a watercooled ryzen 1700x, 40gb ram, gtx 1060 and 1070 2tb 5700rmp storeage drive, 320gb ssd c drive, 180gb and 80gb ssds and another 1tb drive Cost < $1000 Used is good Comment from : cdreid99999 |

I have never killed a CPU and I've overclocked the hell out of them since the Pentium 3 on They always have thermal throttled or crashed before getting damaged - I guess AMD back in the day would thermal to burning up, but I've never overclocked the old AMD Processors Comment from : BikerBry |

as far as used gpus go I would like to weigh in I build a lot of used systems and resell them Usually I buy a used gpu for these and also they are usually mining cards I buy So far I am at 38 systems built the year of 2019 As of right now I have only replaced one gpu from these systems I built Usually I try to stick around the 175-200$ price tag per gpu and I have only had to replace one 1070 However I have used gtx 1060 6 gigs and 570s and 580s I know that this is anecdotal evidence but take it as you will Also keep in mind that this is still kinda early in the year Comment from : Simple Ton |

I mined for a year with a few cards, two of which I gave to some friends who still use them for mining An EVGA GTX 1060 3GB SC2 and an EVGA GTX 1060 6GB SC2 I ran 120 power target, very aggressive fan curves, temp target at 80C with each card OC'd as high as it could be stable with the 3GB OC'd a lot higher to 2GHz and the 6GB at 19GHz They stayed at 80C 24/7 with fans on full for a full year with maybe two heat cyclesbrbrbrAfter all that "abuse" I gave them to some friends for bdays who still use and OC them today without problems Comment from : Wo1fie |

Surely though a CPU's power requirement is set, so lowering the voltage will increase the current draw which will increase temperatures Comment from : Ed5557 |

I ran a i7-990x at around 85c and 154v at 498 GHz and doing some BOINC stuff and I messed my CPU up after about a week CPU still worked but became very unstable unless I ran at stock frequency and Hyper Threading off Not sure if it answers the question but I think voltage in this instance was the problem Comment from : Jim Flagg |

a note for the buying second hand mining gpu part, purchased a gtx 1080 gaming x was sold as a ex gaming card not a mining one, i only purchased it as it still had 2 year warranty left, but the order information i was given was to low resolution to be used at msi he refused to give me a high quality one, i did more research on the dude turned out he was selling loads of these cards 3 days after he posted mine and was selling mining rigs the testing seemed to show memory errors on the card and msi confirmed the fault saying my testing was very good and i should return it to the sell and ask for a refund he refused to deal with me so i used paypal for the refund and sent him back his unusable card i am not saying do not buy mining card/second hand gaming cards just beaware i regularly buy secondhand hardware just be careful and use buyer protection on paypal Comment from : infinitiy11 |
