nowadays cat 6 is the option, cat 5e is obviously the best for everything if you dont have em interference ofc, but cat6 at least will support 10gb which will make sure you won't care about upgrading cables in your enviroment for decades

I've been trying to get faster internet speeds now that I have a new computer, phone, and Xbox The Xbox is most important because the downloads are ridiculous But when I replaced the CAT 5e to CAT 7 line, it was actually slower, than the installed 5e line The provider box is 12 years old, first gen fiber Any idea what I should ask them for to get faster speed? They say it should give me 300 mbs I have a new router as well

I was lucky to have CAT5e in my house since it was wired for a phone system with our cable company Most people don't know this, with some minor modifications I was able to hardwire most rooms I also ran more CAT5e for APs and cameras and installed all Ubiquiti equipment and now enjoy fast Internet all around the house

there are videos showing cat5e able to do 10Gbps It will be fine for the distant future As long as quality 5e cables were used

You know if you are going to spend a lot of money on networking gear you should put in cable that can grow with your network so i would put in cat6a so in the future it can be used for 10gb if desired

I use STP CAT6 because I have a lot of PoE devices and my cable runs are less than 20m (small house) I do have plans for two CAT6a runs, one to my neighbors house for an offsite NAS backup and the other to a backyard WAP This insures I get 10Gb on my Intranet (LAN), not the Internet (WAN) One thing you forgot to mention is that CAT5e 100m runs will work with the newer 25GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T standards

Cat5e is what all the builders in our area still install as default However, Cat6 for short run 10G & Cat5a for longer 10G for sure
