Hello, you are doing exactly what I am trying to do and that comforts me in my choices Mugo pines have the advantage of not requiring too much maintenance, which is perfect for me the result is superb…I will make more jin next time because it’s really nice I put them in a big pot but for another reason, I can only water them once a day, and as it makes a heavy set, no one steals them from me Comment from : @Llboyngton |

I would have at least tried to root some fresh cuttings Some will, but some won't, but at least try a dozen in shade Comment from : @justafig |
It's amazing how a tree can actually break out of its pot to escape its confinement There is a lesson there Never quit trying I know Ivy is invasive but that ivy was kind of proportionate for the treeI thought it was a unique look if kept small Comment from : @lorellstoneman74 |

I am now a retired landscape maintenance contractor in Oregon Over the yeas I have had great success in reducing size of overgrown garden Mugo Pines Most contractors just top them with hedge shears I found using hand pruners was faster and more precise Mugo pines have epicormic buds and back bud very easy even on very old wood That permitted me to reduce the size of overgrown trees and keep them attritive to my customers, In my bonsai yard I have a small Mugo pine that I am working on I tend to go slow in creating my bonsais Comment from : @SkylinersYeti |

Quite the upgrade from a neglected shrub to a majestic tree Would it be acceptable to leave it in that "training" pot? I find that it looks quite natural and compatible with the size of the tree Well done my friend 👍 Comment from : @jamesa7506 |

"the customer expects a miracle" --- because you're always doing them 🙂 !!! IMHO the difference between a bush and a bonsai is the bush is full and the bonsai has open spaces between the branches, you can see through a bonsai but you cann't see through a bush, so its all about creating the spaces, "byte the bullet" means creating open space ! mr peter thank you sir! got a question are most of the mugo sold in the uk these days grafted? garden center/ raw material i mean Comment from : @mikec3820 |
What bothered me about the branch you jinned, the one you called a bar branch, was that it appeared parallel with the branch below it Also, it was on the inside of the curve of the trunk of the tree so it breaks the line Even as a Jin it is parallel the branch below and inside the curve of the trunk but the defect is lessened greatly because it is shorter What was essentially raw material is now well on its way to becoming a presentable Bonsai It is very enjoyable watching you work Chan Sifu Comment from : @creightonfreeman8059 |

Fantastic transformation by a real artist Comment from : @suer666 |
It's a double edged sword isn't it The relative neglect of the tree (it's clearly been tended and is full of growth) provides great raw material potential over time But when Peter has worked some magic on it, will it look nice for a short time and fall into neglect again Comment from : @paulgeddert6125 |
