"when the doctor's face lights up like a kid at Christmas" I had been having unexplained stomach pain and bloating for about a year Got my gallbladder thoroughly checked out, CT scan, ultrasounds, nothing Finally one morning, I started vomiting and having pretty classic appendicitis symptoms, so I go to the ER They do another CT and say, yes your appendix needs to come out I think, okay, this is what has been plaguing me all along, just in slow motionbrbrAfterward, I talk to the surgeon and she informs me that after removing my appendix, she decided it didn't look gnarly enough to have been the sole cause of all my pain over the past year, so she goes exploring Finds I have a small-intestinal birth defect called Meckel's Diverticulum that is not only fairly rare, but even more rare for a person to get all the way to adulthood before it causes problems (if it's gonna cause problems, it usually does so by the time a person is about 2 years old) So since she's not a pediatric surgeon, she was very excited about this lol She got to remove the defect, as well as a bunch of scar tissue it had caused She was positively beaming while telling me about it, and thanking me for giving her "the opportunity to work on a Meckel's" You're welcome, I guess? LmaobrbrSide note, this condition can pretty much only be found with exploratory surgery Hence why none of the other diagnostic procedures had picked it up Comment from : Heidi NoLastName |

Both myself and my son have been this patient! I am in the process of getting dx'd with a form of EDS (a genetic connective tissue disorder) and my son was the first child born with his condition at the fairly large hospital connected to a pretty well known medical collage I had a surgeon come to me 1 hr after having a c-section with his medical text book saying "we think" which is honestly horrible as a new mom to here We ended up having to move states to get my son proper care and is doing really well 8 years on Comment from : Evil Ducky |

Not a doctor, but a patient and it wasn't the injury itself, but how it happenedbrbrI was maybe seven years old, and it was at a family gathering of some kind I had one of those power wheel cars, and I was driving around in the backyard with it When I decided to stop, I had the ingenious idea to sit on the swing to remove my helmet As you can imagine, I fell right on my head, miraculously wearing a helmet When I went to physical therapy to get that taken care of, he told me that yes, he'd seen several injuries like mine, but he'd never seen someone wearing a helmet when it happened Comment from : nick boyer |
