To lessen transplant shock, or help with seed germination, I water seeds/young plants in with a seaweed foliar spray mix In Australia, we have a couple of different brands; my preferred is Maxicrop I used to make cow manure "tea", by suspending a cow pat in an old stocking in a bucket of water Once the cow pat was "spent" it would go in the compost, and the cowpat tea was used as a liquid fertilizer for vegetables needing lots of feeding (this method meant I got more out of each cowpat; sometimes they aren't easily available to residential gardeners) Horse manure - I found it worked best just straight worked into a garden bed; the earthworms loved it and it created a 'compost layer' on the garden bed, but as it was somewhat acidic, I'd add dolomite powder to help with soil pH Australian soil generally lacks Selenium, so the seaweed fertilizers are essential
