Codes become messy now would be nice if you can put some comments there to help people understand Good tutorial anyway! Comment from : @RICOLWANG |
I did feel a bit like I was just copying code to begin with but as the series has progressed I now feel like I know why I'm doing things and I've even made changes here and there because I'm aiming for a slightly different type of game So yh, you've definitely helped my understanding A LOT Comment from : @julius9055 |
I'm learning java in school and your explanations are extremely helpful! Putting what I've been learning to real, visual, use! Comment from : @fablestold8722 |
i actually learnt classes, inputs, adding textures and some other stuff with this tutorial so far if by the end of this series i dont know how to make a easy game i will provably rewatch this whole thing Comment from : @OskarFFS |
I'm really irritated that people asked him to speed up so much If you want to just copy code, go fine source code from another game and copy that I came here to learn and the in-depth explanations he provided early in the series blike he WANTED to/b was perfect for me Comment from : @richgirl141 |
Personally what I've done, before watching this series I read a book about Java and about a 1/3rd of a more advanced book Extremely helpful for understanding the language when watching this series I still think you have a good speed for the series, after every video I try to write it into my code by having it seem less memorized and more naturally Plus I go through and comment everything which furthers my understanding of the code Definitely recommend this to others Comment from : @benjass8552 |
Lol his description says lets hit 100 likes he has 1k :) Comment from : @nshusa99 |
If I'm beginning to go ahead with writing code before you do it on video, than I think you are doing a good job Comment from : @kekistaniattackhelicopter2242 |
Cherno u total mong! if people just want to make a game they would just use a game engine of some sort People come here because the want to know the intricacies of game programming! Comment from : @Honeystain |
Hey, i'm learning like hell here, ! Comment from : @Robert-bw6jk |
But if the colors hexadecimal is gonna be the tile Id anyways, why not just put the image data directly into the int[] tiles? Comment from : @rhodate |
I love how the target was 100 likes and the video is nearly on 1000!brbrGreat series, the pace is good and i really feel like we're getting into things at this point I've been learning java on and off for about 5 years now, and this is absolutely perfect for me so far I feel like i'm learning something new in every episode and it's all sticking ready for me to use again in the future, kudos to you mr Cherno! Comment from : @LoftusWatching |
I actually learned everything from my little java knowledge from here xD thanks Yan! Comment from : @neonmyte8487 |
I see mixed opinions about speeding up the series, me personally i have been a fan of explaining it in big detail, because I do not want to be copying your code without understanding it (which i did do for some episodes) but opinions seem to differ Comment from : @jellejanwillie |
I have no previous experience with programming and i feel like i'm learning a whole lot from this Comment from : @pyroalpha1 |
oooooooooo its a cliffhanger Comment from : @asgggfdhghfgjh |
Hey, just an idea I used, you could replace 'return TilevoidTile' with 'return Tilegrass' so you don't have the gaps in the land if you wish to use auto-generation! Comment from : @Jackmawer |
Learning a lot from this series Keep up the good work! Comment from : @Learn2Code |
This series is getting sweet More learning about how and why to do things and less basic logic explanation I know enough basic java that this is a great speed to teach! Also Cherno seems waaaaay more comfortable moving quicker than his previous episodes Great stuff! Comment from : @gurnzbot |
To address your concerns, i have learned more about Java not even halfway thru this series than i did in my Advanced Java college course This is making all of my game ideas finally possible Now back to the videos Comment from : @jimbones5621 |
I'm learning alot! I just love this :P I even have kind of gotten better grades in the math class with the x and y's :D Comment from : @zalmez7207 |
Honestly the harder part were the first 40 episodes Comment from : @petitjeanluis |
666 Likes I like it! So what do we have? Comment from : @ShadowebEB |
I really love this series and the way I understand the code is by changing things in it to see what each line or method really does Comment from : @b3dog1 |
Keep explaining like you did in ep 2 - 20 i think Comment from : @BrianSantosF |
I am learning ALLOT from this Comment from : @hswafk2 |
I'm not just taking down code Comment from : @jovialbio8106 |
Trust me, Cherno, I have learned a lot from you This isn't just about taking down code for me Comment from : @sweet96635 |
2:00 It's called Nexus Comment from : @faizaandatoo3539 |
if you search those terms in google you can find a simple quick answer Comment from : @paulorphan |
I find this series to be okay how it is but I think you should make a series explaining the simple stuff like void and boolean and all that! Comment from : @AfricanMilkTree |
they didn't bother learning and are completely lost now? People that actually wanna learn are and the rest are still struggling with simple stuff cuz all they do is copy code Let the posers fall :) Comment from : @Pow3rGaming |
Ctrl-shift R - allows you to have a dialogue you can type in like theCherno did in this, to jump straight to a class Also, along that line, to go back to the last thing you edited you can type, Ctrl Q Good stuff :) Comment from : @Pow3rGaming |
one thing that disappoints me is that sometimes you'll say, "you probably can tell" or "you probably thought this or that" and I'm like, "shoot, I didn't think of that but it makes sense" - Disappointed in myself that I didn't realize whatever you imagined we'd have figured out but at least I understand or think, "of course" after you say it ;) Love the series man Comment from : @Pow3rGaming |
Please, at least know that I am learning from what you're teaching I had a Java class I enjoyed and couldn't go to college anymore so I'm really really enjoying learning from your series
Thank you so much man Comment from : @Pow3rGaming |
300th like do i get a cookie? Comment from : @gossfunkel |
Go back to your roots Even if its just one method or a couple lines of code, it will help us build our own games This series is amazing, and will be amazing no matter what you do with it Great Job man, do what you want, it is you series, and your time Comment from : @BibbusTV |
I am with UltimoQueso on this one I had NO prior experience with Java before I started watching your videos After two weeks I now can understand most, if not all, of the code that we have written so far in this video series I found myself changing much of the code as I went to better suit my needs as well I think this video series is exactly what I was expecting, and hoping for Keep up the great work! Comment from : @TenelenTheScrub |
This series has been a great help in learning Chernobyl keep it up! Comment from : @BloodxAssasin95 |
I like your original vision for the series! I don't want to just mindlessly copy code Comment from : @SuperKooGaming |
I am completely new to Game programming & this series has been great I copy the code & modify it in the way I see fit so don't feel bad this is a GREAT SERIES!! & deserves more views than it gets
Comment from : @jakelacey2012 |
I completely understand what you're doing I'm not even copying the code, I'm just following the series Comment from : @PumatSol |
150th like
Comment from : @trevorwalsh4971 |
Same with Cherno has gave me a whole lot of coding experience I too came in with no Java before this I can't create a game from scratch, but i progressively learn more each day (Well maybe not yesterday, but most days yeah) Comment from : @trevorwalsh4971 |
better yet, a string name so that you don't have the problem that mojang had when an update would take over an ID that was used by a mod/previous version of mine craft Like "Diamond_Ore", "Chicken_potpie", etc Comment from : @moondanceff |
Why do we even need to have grasstiles? Don't we only need to know which tiles that are solid? And just print the mapimage spawnlevel will get? Comment from : @Gavusl |
I'm still learning D': Comment from : @idontwannakillu |
I also learned a lot I had prior progamming experience, but I never left the console, so putting together a render method wasnr easy I was at a similar point as we are here now doing it all alone, but it was a freaking mess I just take your concepts and ways of doing things and do them my own way, eg I made arrays of sprites and tiles to access them by an index instead of using on lots of IFs
Carry on, this series is the best programming series I've ever seen, better than my CS class ;) Comment from : @WatercrystalsWoW |
I can't even program and I'm still watching this I'm understanding most of the concepts, and it's fun to watch Comment from : @Charlie_DB |
99 likes! I wish I had another account!! Comment from : @aritzh |
Your video's are superb Cherno!
In the spirit of these last few videos being about Level design/creation, I think we should go over more advanced random generation, like noise generations, or polygonal map generation Comment from : @insanef0rm |
2 people don't understand English Comment from : @SuperHacr |
I don't even have a project like you , I just watch every episode to look at the techniques you use and if i find it interesting i write it down Comment from : @LetsPlaySomeGamesz |
I'm learning stuff In fact, I stopped copying your code a long time ago and now I'm just looking at how you do things and comparing it to how I do things Comment from : @UltimoQueso |
are you taking any suggestions for any other series/tutorials? Comment from : @blockout22 |
I don't think you have to worry about this series going this way I, at least, and I'm sure many others love the larger amount of code per episode, we can see progress And while I may not understand everything, I've learned immense amounts I came into the series with no previous Java knowledge I may not be able to write a game from scratch, but I can certainly fix the few coding mistakes I've made, and I have a general understanding of how it works, and that's a great success for me Comment from : @FreyjaTF2 |
