If you settle on the poles of a planet, such that the sun never sets, just rolls around your horizons, you can set solar panels on a rotor that turns one revolution per 2 hours (assuming that's what your in-game day is set to) Comment from : @thiccnuke8288 |
Putting those on separate grids was ingenious Comment from : @justinsellers9402 |
For anyone who thinks even this might be beyond their capabilities, keep in mind that if you set all your solar panels to align perpendicular to the "plane" of the sun's revolution around the map, you'll still get pretty great power generation almost the whole time You'll have a couple of small, brief dips each day, but that's it Comment from : @DoremiFasolatido1979 |
I love how clever some creations are, the level of out of the box thinking you see in this games community is really cool Comment from : @Captain_Matias_Torres |
I don’t understand why people don’t like solar panels, I have a light cargo/travel ship that is run entirely on solar power and a few batteries Comment from : @zyanidwarfare5634 |
This video saved my marriage, thank you from the bottom of my heart Comment from : @user-xs1fm3bo8t |
Can someone explain how the gyros being powered causes rotation? Comment from : @matthewcozon4686 |
You need an array that you can hit 50 km away Comment from : @tohpingtiang4878 |
you should get a call from NASA Comment from : @piyushjaininventor |
Did they get rid of the part of "edit" on programmable blocks that lets you pull scripts from the workshop? I can't find the option anymore??? Comment from : @CopperStateCustomAdmin |
This is a very clever design Love the simplicity of the concept Comment from : @koalaspruce |
Like Comment from : @blancaestelagonzalezgarcia4594 |

Haven´t seen this kind of SunTracking Solution for quite a while - like for years A time of DX9 , without Programmable blocksbrIts interesting to see this principle re-emerge from the void - into a new Engineer´s mind Comment from : @schattensonner |
I remember trying to build something like that I made the baseline "solar power gas station", to recharge your batteries off But even with scripts at the day, I never managed to get the allingment to work There simply was no way to read out the power produciton of a panel back in the daybrbrI never considered having the whole station rotate on a passive device I am not sure it would even work for my "gas station" design, as ships will often be docked to "refuel" them, drastically changing the mass of the whole thing Comment from : @christopherg2347 |
That's pretty clever Comment from : @edxcal84 |
Amazing principle ! I'll add this to my personal knowledge database :D Comment from : @Korgann |
When i get to play SE i want my ships to be designed with detachable batteries via merge blocks that can be attached to solar farms and exchanged for charged batteries Comment from : @thefalloutphoenix |
No timer block? Don't get it Comment from : @Ming1975 |
Oh wow, Emmm I gave the guy resources when we were playing the survival server and he build this on the server, Glad to see he finaly released a cleaner version!!! Comment from : @NovaDragon |
I can just imagine having an asteroid cluster covered completely in solar panels, with a massive dock and a battery store room bigger than any ship, that acts as a recharging station, especially on a larger survival serverbrbrOr maybe instead of an asteroid cluster a planet Comment from : @TheRedNaxelaYouTube |
Parody of Scott Manley? Comment from : @TimOFFon |
IT SHALL BRING PRIME LEADER UNLIMMITED POWER cryingexe start Comment from : @aidoge3839 |
Yeah, I was not that fancy on my first base, i just put a cockpit and a gyroscope on a solar panel array mounted to a vertical and horizontal rotor setup so i could hop in the cockpit and just use the gyroscope's power to point the cockpit directly facing the sun (the manual method) It worked pretty well for my first attempt at a base With more experience I'd try this setup though! Comment from : @slowsteadysqueeze4246 |
Hi all thanks for the good feedback the grid is on the steam workshop so have a look and a play and i will try to make a planetary one soon Comment from : @odjwizardo3198 |
"It would work on a Keen server" Comment from : @Sinaduel |
I love thisas someone who has attempted multiple times to use timers and gyros to match the sun rotation, this is by far so much simpler that it makes me smile Kudos! Comment from : @MikeNorris1 |
But is it ram resistant? Comment from : @SONIC1256 |
Any one know if theres a way to make these work under gravity? Comment from : @schoenperkins8210 |
This is a rather ingenious way of doing this, props to the designer and tanks to Arron for sharing this :) Comment from : @Alpha-5 |
I thought gyroscopes don't rotate grids on their own but instead work as position sensors and control thrusters And even if they do rotate the grid, what predetermines their default direction of rotation when they are powered? Comment from : @lyubomyrlohin6843 |
W o a h Comment from : @dynamitedinosaur4601 |
dang, that's pretty cool Comment from : @hydrathedaydreamer |
2:47 "Until a poor astronaut crashes into it"brWell I guess that means the RWI can't use it Jack Comment from : @josephburchanowski4636 |
very nice brI wonder if you could do something similar but using rotors instead, for a base on a planet Comment from : @slab-dd6vj |
I gotta say its crazy that he managed to work out all the power requirements and such that kind of level of engineering i just leave xD Comment from : @Husker5454 |
Another video to watch, productivity protocols lowered to secondary priority, analysis protocols raised to first priority Comment from : @blackknightpraetor1667 |
Second ( or first ) Comment from : @ellis399 |
