I love your videos! I mainly watched them to help me in grad school for OT, but watching this one was great in a different way; I have epilepsy, and it's cool learning about it from a doctor's perspective brbrI hope doctors know the major impact levetiracetam can have on mood I have idiopathic left TLE with focal seizures (with and without impaired awareness) that have occasionally turned into secondary tonic-clonics (including two episodes of status epilepticus which required a benzo and fosphenytoin), and levetiracetam has helped me a ton; it was the second drug I tried, and for a while it was the only medication I took However, I became EXTREMELY emotionally labile after starting it My road rage was scary (I did some really dangerous stuff on the road for a while - stuff I would have never done before starting the medication - and have never felt that kind of visceral anger before or since), and I'd burst into tears at the drop of a hat I have a friend who started taking it after a stroke, and she and her husband ended up going to counseling because her mood issues caused so many problems in their marriage brbrWhen it turned out my seizures still weren't controlled, my doctor added lamotrigine (which is also used as a mood stabilizer), and that helped SO MUCH!!!! I still cry and get irritated more easily than I did before starting levetiracetam, but I don't feel controlled by my emotions like I used to I also weaned off my SSRI in part to protect against serotonin syndrome, since I take a very high dose of lamotrigine I still get the occasional focal seizure but haven't had a tonic-clonic in years!

Hello Professor ZachbrI love your videos, they are easy to understand and consolidatebrbrBut According to Katzung (book of pharmacology), Felbumate inhibits NMDA receptors and potentiates GABA receptors (with similar action to barbiturates) and Phenobarbital, Topiramate and Lamotrigine inhibit/block AMPA receptorsbrbrThank you for these classes, they help a lot especially when I get confused with reading without knowing how to filter what is important and what is not
