Gravitationally unstable though, Think of the effect of the any planetary moons gravity on it, not to mention the gravity of other planets And assuming it is rotating around the Sun fast enough to create a centripetal force roughly that of Earth's gravity, the required tensile strength of the ring would be unbelievably huge In fact, I'm not even sure if it would be stable if it was rotating alone in interstellar space

Done correctly, Ringworld could be one of the great motion picture productions of all time It would have to be 4-6 hours long and have a budget large enought to run the US Navy for 6 months in order to capture the essence of the book The Godfather is a good example of a book translated to film It would be easy to get Ringworld wrong in a film production Dune would be a bad example of thisbr I picked up Ringworld from my girlfriend's book shelf in 1970-71 I was 14 or 15 I did not put that book down again until I had turned the last page The Hunt For Red October is another book I did that with And The Godfather Certain works of literature have the ability to captivate a reader to this extent To translate this to film is very challenging, but can be accomplished

I remember the book describing the "Earth map" islands, that the continents, portrayed on a near-flat surface, were distorted in the Mercator Projection manner with linear equator and exaggerated polar zones (and Antarctica missing) This clip shows a quasi polar projection, with severe distortion in the southern hemi, and USA having least distortion Typical American, "centre of the World / Universe bias

Very cool I randomly picked up Ringworld in a jumble sale back in 1979 or so I was attracted by the cover artwork, which was horribly wrong, but nicely done nonetheless Very exciting to see this piece of art that more accurately represents the images I had in my mind when I read this wonderful book as a child Definitely movie material, this is long overdue

This was spectacular! (Read that book 30 or 40 years ago Maybe time to read it again now I see there are two sequels that I haven't read also)brbrI'd much rather see the biRingworld/i/b series be made into a 4K TV series on Netflix, etc instead of biGame of Thrones/i/bbrbrbGOT/b which is spectacularly well produced just isn't the kind of story that I really enjoy I read the first book and will watch the series but it could be betterbrbrI'm liking the SciFi channel's biThe Expanse/i/b and hate to have to wait another year to get more (Read the first two books in the series Have to get the remainder soon)
