You did a fantastic job explaining monetary history and current currency You earned a new sub It's amazing how many people don't know what real money is and isn't I would add however that SLV, even PSLV, and GLD is not really exposure to metals It's simply an ETF that goes up or down based on the paper price (which is artificial) of the metals and will NOT receive one ounce of metal upon cashing out You will simply get currency If you don't hold it, you don't own it Also, Coinbase sucks They hold your funds for 12 days before you get any of your crypo to use for paying or trading

I have worked in the jewelry industry for over 15 years If you are buying gold only to hold it, and not actually converting gold into finished product that people consumes as jewelry in order to have a business margin, you will FOR SURE loose 5-15 off of the market price when you sell for cash That's because, nobody is going to buy your gold at market price just to resell at market price (or no transaction fee) there would be no point to the transaction I'm with the Buffet camp on this at best, ETF for gold for 5-10 of the portfolio

Lately, the price of gold has been flat, while governments have been printing money like crazy So why hasn't the price of gold skyrocketed? My own guess is that people who are concerned about inflation are shifting to crypto as a store of value Gold, crypto, land, dividend-paying stocks all beat cash

Bretton Woods system sill exists, regardless if US dollar is backed by gold or not That system is not just US/Gold relationship It's also about US Fed reserves printing money without being regulated directly by US Government while remaining main world reserved currency

If ready to retire and already have a good 401K , index funds and sep IRA I was planning to have some at least 3 years salary saved up in cash before retiring and actually live off my savings and social security before touching my money in 401k Should I change that thought and put at least half of cash in bitcoin and gold
