How can you be so careless with a $1k board I treat my $100 boards like gold Comment from : DoomedGrind |
The only overclocking I've ever done that I really feel was "worth it" was the old Celeron 300A which you could easily overclock to 450 equaling the performance of a Pentium II 450 which cost about 4x as much Comment from : DragNetJoe |
out of the hundreds of motherboards I installed in my years in IT not once did i damage a single board, and that was back in the days when you had to custom fit every MB to every case and this moron caused that much damage installing one motherboard, some people need computers with idiot proof locks so they can't get inside Comment from : abruptly blunt |
Memory can be a bottleneck for the cpu depending the game or task, I got about 6 more performance by upgrading my ram from 3200mhz to 3600mhz in shadow tomb raider and 8 with a bit of tightening the timings Comment from : Eddy |
Yep, using impact driver for MB screws it the best one can do At least it looks like that Comment from : Stefan Kawalec |
I have a damaged z690 motherboard it lights up but pcie slot don't read GPUs Comment from : The evolution Slayer |
I used to be obsessed with overclocking, but I stopped The increased performance is so insignificant and it makes your games unstable It's just not worth it Comment from : Daniel DeVito |
i personally do not recomend overclocking Comment from : MK Everything |
Can i get a schematic pdf for z690-a motherboard ddr5 MS7D-25 VER: 21PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN🙏🙏 Comment from : m z |
You overclock your memory for CPU mining Comment from : Gary Sanchez |
Hey Alex When u buy memory you want the speed advertised like 3000 or 3600 or higher By default they come set lowest speed Apply XMP in bios and u get advertised speed People like Steve from GN as well as kingpin from EVGA all overclock and compeat scores for GPU, CPU, and faster memory will help render a better score Comment from : Born Again |
I wonder if this guy checked the QVL list for his RAM and MoBo, that list is a lit more important now than it use to be with this newer stuff Things just arent as Todd Howard said Comment from : DirtyVinyl |
I've never seen anything like that before Whoever owns that motherboard has zero respect for his equipment I find it very hard to understand how he can't line up a few holes up onto the standoffs without doing so much damage The fact he broke some pins originally shows he doesn't have a clue what he's doing and should stay well away from building any other pc again Comment from : ToonNut1 ToonNut007 |
Asus was right rejecting guarantee Comment from : Andrzej Zieliński |
XMP Profiles? Supposed to provide higher frequencies and better timing, ergo improved performance But as RAM isn't usually a bottleneck, you probably won't notice much difference in FPS in games etc Comment from : rapturas |
Overclocking does make sense brDDR4 RAM (and DDR3 and DDR5) sells with a speed capability far beyond that which the MB will auto run it at brbreg: 3600MHz you paid for will auto run at 2666MHz brbrIn intel land that means the user needs to apply at least the XMP setting in bios it is 'overclocking' by strict definition, but in the real world not really brbrNow these auto settings are the base amount that any one stick of RAM can definitely operate at but it is a conservative standardbrbrThat doesnt mean that a particularly good memory stick isnt capable of more so now the hobbiest goes to work to tweak it to its most capabilitiesbrbrWhy bother? Because RAM that is running slow (and this guy was probably not even able to run XMP) will definitely affect the speed of the CPU its called a bottleneck, and poorly running RAM creates the bottleneck That can affect in games or productivity Comment from : Pitboy |
the vast majority of memory speeds are above the JDEC spec's so you need to enable XMP profiles which is effectively memory overclocking to get your ram to run at the advertised speeds It also enables using faster memory timings Now as to how much of an impact this is varies depending on the type of ram used, type of CPU used, the sensitivity of the game/app to memory speeds, latency timing uses but it can be very significant amounts of performance left on the table (in my case with a ryzen 5000 cpu and 3600 CL6 DDR4 between 10-20 in certain memory intensive games/workloads) Comment from : Aaron Johnson |
Faster gaming Over clocking the CPU, GPU, and memory combined will improve performance Yes it creates more heat but the advantage weighs out the heat dissapation As long as you have a large enough heat sink or water cool it Comment from : Steve |
The most overclocking you need is to enable XMP to the default profile for the kit you have installed Don't bother going higher Comment from : Helio Centra |
when linus came up an idea and ended like that motherboard Comment from : Equipped_KostumTV |
another example of why money can't buy brain Comment from : KeoiMadBro |
he overclocked his own power while installing the mainboard Comment from : ReolSPro |
He'll be back when he blows something overclocking Comment from : CiderPang27 |
a bios memory chip can only hold so many different XMP settings Each different bios revision usually will have different memories supported in it Might just be a case of needing a different bios Comment from : Leon |
With memory overclocking I would say it depends on whether you mean XMP/DOCP stuff that gets the DDR4 running at its rated speeds that are faster than the original DDR4 spec or fiddling about trying to go faster than thatbrPersonally I think the latter is a pretty pointless hobby but the former is completely standard Comment from : reggiedixon2 |
used impact gun to put motherboard screws in? Comment from : slybunda |
Massive gains especially in 1080p Memory is very very important RAM bottlenecks the CPU mostly in terms of latency the CPU is much faster than the ram Your CPU essentially waits around for the RAM when it needs to access it Comment from : DEREK TRASH |
This is a very expensive motherboard yet they cut corners on the design Usually near the mounting points on the pcb there is a safety margin with no traces to prevent exactly this kind of damage My much cheaper msi z690 carbon motherboard actually has reinforced these areas with metalic surfaces to prevent digging into the solder mask ASUS products are overpriced rip offsbrbrDont get me wrong, the owner definitely had no clue how to build a PC but still the user error need to be taken into account in design of a product to some extent There are a lot of idiots out there and they overlap very well with those who would pay for ASUS ROG products Comment from : CutCorners |
I think the person who owns this need to stop using power tools to install it And learn the basics first Comment from : Gerson Nalog |
11:47 Why did you exposed us to uv light 🤣 Comment from : Reza |
Most people don't realize how hard it is to repair small traces Well done as always! Comment from : Sam Corbin |
Don't sulk become they don't appreciate That's why u are sensei It makes all the difference Comment from : Lucas Kiai |
Lol, can't get how people are able to do something to a board like this they should buy pre-builds Comment from : SpiDey |
Dude get a Dell hahahahha Comment from : rocks socks |
Well maybe he should not have overclocked his hand while using the biggest fuckin screwdriver to overtighten those bolt Surely it was so tight that his screwdriver jumped off causing this dmg Comment from : Lendvai Tamas |
Its a lot of benefit from overcloc, dont have to do much just get the good cpu and memory ratio usually 5-10 tuning for the components, but because they after working "in sync" you can get way faster computer Comment from : László Széll |
Some memory is faster than the standards released so just running some memory at factory speed requires «over clocking» XMP or similar Comment from : Anthony Veaudry |
How did this guy manage to even pull this off Comment from : Darkside1355 |
nice ☮️👍 In my experience over clocking group of people, (cpu or memory) feel the need to be the 1 who can You guys take risks which are unnecessary But on the other hand manufacturers down grade by locking their products to create new segment in the product range Manufacturers all plug holes so that most fail ❤️ and 😳 for over clocking Comment from : Ali Alshams |
The memory has a native frequency, usually 1600 brIf you buy the 3200 memory clock this mean can be overclock 2 time brYou have to go on bios and give the abilitation to overclock the memory and you can verify the memory now run untill 3200 ,before only 1600 the native frequency!brYou can check with motherboard program ,like master Ryzen to verifybrAlways you have to overclock the memorybrBye I'm like you professional trouble Maker! Comment from : Roberto Grossi |
nice work Comment from : Mike VanVolkenburgh |
This man would be an excellent brain surgeon I think Comment from : Erik S |
Memory OC is so common that you buy rated kits The reference speed is often very low and memory kits are often more capable of running more MT/sbrThis makes more difference with AMD due to their fabric, but it helps all systems with data transfer between system and CPU It's the second most common form over overclocking, in fact XMP profiles often overclock ram and CPU Comment from : Norgan |
Cowboy repair people are only required by a cowboy computer techs 🤔 brbrThe real cause of the problem isn't fixed Comment from : unknown President |
Alex overcklocking a memory helps alot in term of cpu minningbrThe share submitions increases and its easily to find a blockbrIn term of normal user u can buy a normal 2400mhz Ram cheap and you have a Ryzen running at 3200mhz brOvercklocking the Ram from 2400mhz to 3200mhz improves alot in the system brHope my explainatation Help brHappy new year and Much Love to You ❤ Comment from : Master Electronic |
Hey Alex,brI'm a watchmaker and took a job for an Aerospace company working on tiny components As part of my training they sent me to micro soldering school for a few IPC certifications The only experience I had was watching your videos and the instructor was kinda shocked how good my work was I really enjoyed it and am going to put together a soldering bench in my workshop Just wanted to say thanks for the help, I appreciate it Comment from : CaptainXanax |
I'ce seen quite a few of your videos, your success rate is impressive That said I'm left with a question, are OEM repair people idiots or ate you a genius, why do thay give up so easely, you would belive that OEMs ( at least the bigger btsnds) could afford to hire goid people so what gives Comment from : Bjarne Nilsson |
've never seen damage caused like that before How you kept a straight face is commendable Comment from : Mühendis Bey |
jesus looks like the fella was eating his dinner off the back of that mobo never install a motherboard again end user none technical 🤣🤣 Comment from : Geoffrey Bradshaw |
Can this ninja explain, how he scratched and destroyed 1k MB? Cc Comment from : majaba |
i understnd some gamers or video editors or 3d video rendering like to have overclocked Memory or CPU to GPU, for me personally it will age these parts faster even if you undervolt it by some software to reduce the voltage, eventually it will soft break your OS with the new voltage change of overclocking as far as I know 16GB of ram is still good enough for any modern high demanding memory as for the performance and quality it is not gonna be that much of a big deal on high-end computers, but mid or low end computers you might notice a bit of difference in overclocking whether in games, or video editing/creating or on video 3d rendering software only if these parts allow the overclock andstill these parts have limits point that you can't exceed in short no it is not worth it unless you have much more money to keep buying computers Comment from : YaraTV2000 |
Hey man love the channel, overclocking memory nowadays gets you far far more performance gain over cpu and gpu Also that motherboard is defective from the factory for the first revisions The memory overclocking on them was broken So unfortunately fixing the trace won’t do anything for him Comment from : Frame Chasers |
What did that person use to install this motherboard - a chainsaw and a hammer? Jeez Great job on the repair Let's hope this customer treats this motherboard with better respect Comment from : HouseofNo |
That is my board What did he do to it When I was installing it I handled it like it was a Chrystal ball Fragile and very very heavy for the motherboard Comment from : Konstantin |
Did it fix it? (great bid thanks) Comment from : David Schweizer |
Theres a lot of a benefit for overclocking memory (RAM) Comment from : Sheldon |
Over clocking memory is how you make the most gains in gaming or gaming related workloads (3d mark for instance) In some games, like overwatch or warzone, a memory overclock can see increases of 20-50 brbrA CPU can't perform if it has no data Enter fast memory to keep the CPU fed brbrWhen ocing memory, depending on how far you manage to take it, you can achieve a 2x increase bandwidth and about 30 lower latency Comment from : konawolv |
The second I saw the damage I knew someone who didn't know what they are doing 600$ mobo They got money but cant pay someone to build it Comment from : adamkcmo69 |
1: Overclocking memory works so that the CPU is constantly fed with data CPUs have gone a long way to the point that they are starved for data and modern applications rely on huge transfer of data to work Old applications on the i5-2500k used to not get any gains on DDR3-1866CL11 vs DDR3-1333CL7 but with modern games and applications it can make computer twice faster Same thing with newer CPUs, especially with the 1st-3rd gen Ryzen architecture designsbrbr2: for the anti-glare, might I recommend installing a polarizing filter in front of the lens? In photography, we use this to reduce glare on shiny surfaces We call this a CPL filter we screw in front of the lens There downsides such as that you may need to increase light and things may look too flat Comment from : Ayu Natsume |
Over clocking memory stops a bottle neck in some cases from the ram to the graphics card only in some cases over clocking memory in normal cases will give you 20 to 30 fps if your lucky Comment from : damolin77 |
Happy new year northredgefix Comment from : NEELKANTH LAPTOP |
Of all the pc I’ve built and laptops I’ve gone through over the years I can safely say that Asus has more quality control issues than other manufacturers when it comes to motherboards But they lead the way in laptop failing You can’t go wrong with a MSI, or gigabyte mb paired to intel processor I’m still rocking my i7 6700k Upgraded to m2 upgraded to 4000 mhz 32gb ram and paired it to 3070 Don’t have any issues Even when I had my 1080 I was able to get decent frame rate on most if not all games Comment from : News that matter |
This is perfect example of those that shouldnt build a pc ever Comment from : NeCrOmAnCiN |
🤟I thought the hot air in conjunction with UV light tip came from you It's all goodbrnice work as usual Comment from : POW |

1000 dollar motherboard un necessary Comment from : Beast-Killer-54x |
I have this motherboard to my z690 maximus extreme still in a very good condition, take note, you have to very more careful this time cause that motherboard are so expensive ( 2x the price than the cpu i9 12th gen) 😎 Comment from : Harold Lopez |
well just test single channel and dual channel in ryzen : 2x performance minimum and from 2133 to max for the cpu you will see big difference Comment from : Stefano Pucci |
Have a great new year to you and family 👍 Comment from : black dotkiller |
Fine repair, but it is not the intention that the customer receives comments about what he should or should not dobrJust doing the repair is what he pays for, he doesn't pay for comments Comment from : Henk Kalter |
"Overclocking" shortens the lifespan of your Tech !brbrFor full retards only ;) Comment from : Justus Stern |
What is white light stand like thing in front of you called? Comment from : Bir Singh |

Bet this customer is below me in 3dmark leaderboards brbrIs the wrong mobo for that anyways ❤ Comment from : Flagship Lab |
Hi m8 i hope you have a happy new year and to your family and i hope next year be a better one Comment from : Taylors World |
How hard can it be to assemble a PC? Apparently I'm a rocket (PC) scientist! Comment from : Hollow Knight |
I don't understand how the owner managed to scrape up the board this badly There's bliteral/b barmor/b bcladding/b on the back!brbrOverclocking RAM can significantly improve performance, and the fact that it's been made easy with XMP makes it far more accessible Comment from : REDSLATE |
Are you able to repair video cards? Comment from : Jonathan Kurz |
Great video!brThere is quite a bit of performance to be gained by overclocking memory eg increasing from the DDR5 JEDEC spec (ie not overclocked or even using XMP profiles) of 4800 MHZ (or MT if you prefer), can give bsubstantial/b performance improvements For example, my DDR5 kit can hit 7000 MT C32 with safe daily voltages That's approximately a 50 increase in bandwidth over JEDEC spec Comment from : Christian |
you should try video stabilization feature while editingmaking me dizzy thanks for the video mahn:) Comment from : Mirror |
The Z690 and Z790 boards from all manufacturers have a consistent problem with memory overclocking/XMP XMP does actually present a good amount of benefit, and it’s extra RAM speed that you pay extra for that the factory verified it can run, but the current gen doesn’t really like doing it in certain cases I had two different high-end Asus motherboards (different variant of this same board) that both would fail POST if DIMM 3 was populated while XMP was enabled — you can work around it if you manually set timings, but it’s not plug and play like XMP and may take some time to get right Comment from : Sketchit |
Why not use trace tape? Comment from : Todd Baker |
Usually when someone can't get XMP working they put the ram in the wrong slots, need a BIOS update, or are using 4 sticks (usually mixed ICs)brIf your goal is to competitive OC ram a board with LOTs of layers and only 2 ram slots is good (unless the manf was lazy and copy/pasted a ram layout from a low end board) Comment from : Chad McKean |
