Just successfully repaired the ceramic gland valve and it's thanks to your video, used vaseline to lubricate it, used a bit of bicarbonate of soda and warm water to gently remove any lime scale, so far no drip So tired of replacing taps due to this issue Thank you so much😊

These ceramic taps cartridges are a real pain…especially when the water pressure on the mains to the taps exceeds 5 bar……drip bloody drip brChanged all pressured taps back to the rubber washer type… no more drips

Hot & cold actually turn on/off in different directions by default, that's the real reason for the red & blue, to easily identify which one to use to turn the standard way Not all homes are set up with this originally though, almost all my taps are blue/cold water ones & all turn the same direction for on & off

Very informative, I can add to my brother's knowledge Names of parts learned and yes sourcing is tricky Nice plumber merchants did make us feel happier even though we didn't get parts yet, just the Dad stores Yes even my friend who has taken a cartridge/valve apart with his plumber father couldn't explain it all as well Thanks

It should be food safe silicone grease You can put them in outdoor tap Y splitters when the O rings dry out toobrAlso, there are over 200 known valves from many manufacturers, as my local plumber told me When you take it to them, they have a draw full of various types and it's basically trial and error going through to find one they may have to match it They say to take your old tap in with the threads to check against the new one to be sure

Finding the right valve is a minefield, particularly in foreign made or unbranded taps I had a leaky kitchen mono-bloc mixer tap to repair - could not source the right cartridge but found by simply flipping the rubber O ring over it cured the drip When it happens again, will just replace with a new 10p O ring and maybe add grease for good measure

Do you need to coat new stems?? I replaced my stem and at first it didn’t leak but after a couple uses it is back to leaking Same 2” American Standard and number of tines I’m 99 sure Obviously I’m not a plumber

I was dead lucky Watched the video and dreaded finding the correct valve Later that day popped into Wilco and noticed they actually had tap valves (one size only) Decided to take punt and it actually fitted!!! I was in pure disbelief

Thanks for the tip about adding a little silicone lube Seemed to do the trick for my Newport Brass Chesterfield and saved me $100 for a new cartridge
