Question is: How you do static IP reservations when you have bunch of iOS devices with private MAC addresses turned on? Which essentially means MAC address changes whenever the DHCP lease expires? Comment from : paracha3 |
For the ubiquity setup, how would I do this without devices connected (pre-setup by mac address)? Comment from : AceBoy2099 |
recently getting some problems with my lan with the udm, will like to see how you setup some vlans and using profiles to get a ip address no matter what im troubleshooting this but still getting no internet on lan even with a static ip, wifi works smoothly only hardwired is going on and off great information here Comment from : Photoshopuzr |

Is it possible to make a short video about how to set up a UniFi access point with a static IP address Comment from : mccarty7video |
hey there! I want to use my edge X router as my gateway (Dhcp server) and every other devices falls behind my udm pro how can i do that? Comment from : SM Groupinc |
This is the most comprehensive video I could find in Youtube for this matter, thank you and well done!brHowever, I still can't find an answer for my question If I already have a list of MAC and IP Address mappings for all my Smart/IoT devices, how can I upload the whole list in a bulk fashion, without having to create reservations one by one? (I did this in Pi-hole before but I'm considering buying a Dream Machine now and make it my DHCP server) Comment from : Nuno Alexandre |
So all you really did was give a static ip to a device in your DHCP pool in UnFi I thought DHCP Reservations was the same as Static Mapping with the controls of adding mac address and other controls In UnFi is there a way I can add multiple devices with mac address and the DHCP pool will assign the static address Comment from : Jim B |
Love the B standard wire picture over your right shoulder, well done 😊 Comment from : Smarter Home of the Carolinas |
What if you are keep replacing devices that of course has different MAC Address to a same port and you want to get the same IP Address? Comment from : Medalavi |
Thanks for the video Unfortunately the checkbox to make the IP static is greyed out with a little "USG" balloon after it I don't have a Ubiquity secure gateway just the edge router Any thoughts? Comment from : Paul Smith |
Any idea how you set a static IP before connecting a device to the network (ie If you have the mac add) in Unifi? Comment from : hopsta |
Thanks for your videos on Unifi/Edge devices They have helped me understand Unifi Could you do a video on what Switch0 is, why and how to use it? Comment from : TerryRay |
Any possibility on doing a tutorial on how to setup DHCPv6 on edgerouter series? Comment from : Bridget the Nun |
Nice video, however regrettably this does not work for AP's switches etc within unifi I would like to assign them in a specific range as well Comment from : Huub van Vilsteren |

Thanks Chris for the clear instructions How to achieve the same for Unifi devices? Eg how to set a static lease for my UAP-AC-Pro AccessPoints and Unifi Switches? The options under Config->Network look a bit different setting manual IP rather than using DHCP Comment from : speakup11 |
Thanks againas usual, Chris! Comment from : ElderGeek T Romeo |

I would love to see a video of how to physically connect a Negate 2100 WAN to IP modem or directly What is involved, pros and cons Comment from : Me Ma |
Great video as always Nice to have a review, especially when it gives more details that I had forgotten! I would LOVE an updated video on site to site VPN with the new controller version including example networks and maybe even using it as a proxy to internet? Thanks! Comment from : Kyle Riess |
Thanks for explaining DHCP in a no nonsense way! Is it possible or advised to configure DhCP pool IP addresses after the network is already deployed with clients? brbtw, if you could please do a few vids on configuring Firewall Rules with the UDMP, that would be great! Comment from : Fitness4Life |
Looking at the length of the short section on UDMPro and the long section on Edge Router makes me pretty sure that I chose the right platform to manage my networks 🙂🙂 Comment from : Kenneth Bell |
A note that 11215 is current only if you're using the Early Access release channel Comment from : Steven Mishos |
Like your videos! Is there a way with UniFi OS to see the DHCP reservations? I haven't found that Trying to go to each individual device to find out what has been reserved is a pain Come on UniFi an ASUS router at a fraction of the price does this! Comment from : Brian Fritz |
Thanks for the tips Keep them coming in this format VLAN and managed switches are my kryptonite at present and would like straight forward tutorals on setting them up for a SOHO environment with Ubi, Netgear, TPLink, TrendNet managed switches and Edge Routers Comment from : Bond James Bond |
Great! Would love to see when to use VLANs (other than VOIP), when do I need it Have a /23 network and I guess we could use atleast 1 management vlan but clients still need to access servers in the management? Comment from : Robin J |
If only Windows Server DHCP service had a simple Map button All the years I have had to record MAC addresses by hand and type them into reservations brbrI am puzzled why the UDM interface referred on screen to a reserved IP address for your phone as "fixed", when reserved is the correct title (assuming you stuck to you 1-50 for fixed, 51-254 as DHCP pool)? Comment from : Conn Clissmann |
How can I nuke static DHCP settings for clients that are no longer on the network? (For Unifi Network) Comment from : Mike Hartman |
I was going to ask you to show us how you would create DHCP reservations for devices that have never been on that Network, so the first time you plug them in they get the desired IP address, but we already know the answer to that With Ubiquiti UDM you pre-stage (or reserve) DHCP addresses the same way you create static DNS entriesYOU CAN'T! I use a lot of ubiquiti equipment, but it's embarrassing talking to other it professionals when they bring those two points up I love UI but sometimes they have some head scratching and embarrassing omissions Comment from : Jamie Loy |
Fun fact, if you have clients using this you cannot change a networks IP address You have to go to each device and disable this feature before it can be changed I wish unifi showed a list of your DHCP reservations like Edge OS does or be able to setup DHCP reservations before the device even connects Unifi would be annoying to roll out a printer fleet with Comment from : lawdawg1942 |
Hi Chris and unifi it's really bad to use fixed IP addresses brbrReason if the client leaves the network and he is not under known clients anymore and you try to modify the network it will give you an error and you have no way of fixing that errorbrbrBecause there is no DHCP lease table everything is under clients/known client Comment from : Y J |
Thank you Comment from : Ron M |
Chris, thanks for excellent trainingbrWhen configuring a network for an MDU building, I prefer to use WiFi routers vs APs in each unit to control DHCP locally Otherwise, EdgeRouter must manage a class B network because you can have over 10 devices per unit and 100 units requiring 1000 DHCP addresses Surely, managing 1000 addresses in class B will slow down EdgeRouter Also, you achieve greater securing behind a local firewall Port isolation is possible for security, but it eliminates printer use since clients and printer must communicate Comment from : John Poldo |
Hi ChrisbrThanks for good videos as alwaysbrYou didn't mention that many of the new phones today changes MAC-address (dynamic MAC-address) when connecting to WiFi networksbrThis can be manually turned off on the device, but its not default Comment from : Pål A S Karlsen |
AKA "nailing IP addresses" Comment from : Robert Cruikshank |
Good video but random suggestion, the orange used in the on screen text is too close to the grey colour and makes it a bit hard to read the text Comment from : Brad Davis |
Thanks for giving Edge some love I have both Edgerouter and Edgeswitch I have a couple of Unifi devices, too Comment from : Sam Sampier |
YES More on my EDGE 4er…was very useful Video Comment from : AP514 |

Did a crazy thing recently for a client They're repairing lots of units - they wanted the same IP to always be assigned to any device plugged in to a specific port on the specified switches Not a common thing right? We tried using VLANs and a 1 IP scope on each port the UDM-Pro went a little nuts after we had just a small number of the VLANs configured We ended up having to go w Cisco switches which have a port-based DHCP capability I'm sad Unifi doesn't have an easy way to do it seems like it would be a really simple thing to implement even though it would so rarely be needed For my clients being able to plug in a bunch of machines and know exactly what IP to go to each time to work with them has really helped their workflow :) Comment from : Ed Lipp Jr |
Thank you! You just increased my understanding of DHCP by a factor of 10 Yes, please keep these types of videos coming, you are an excellent teacher Would love to see a video on vlan groups in Unifi Comment from : Pit Snipe |
Can you do a video about configuring DHCP relay on UniFi switches? Comment from : xaj |
Love the simple videos! One thing I was curious about the advantages to using a DHCP Reservation vs just assigning it a Static IP outside of the DHCP Pool? Comment from : Someone Random |
Nice video! Now how can you view your DHCP static mapping in Unifi, or get full list of DHCP reserved addresses? Comment from : Abylay B |
Good Video ! Also use DHCP scope size Not really the best practice to make it 2-254 I like going from 50-125 Comment from : Jasons Lab |
You can also use static mapping to give out ip outside dhcp range Comment from : LORD Steve Wilson |
Dynamic Host “Configuration” Protocol, not “Control” Comment from : Bizz Fo |
