5:00 I did that, clicked apply changes, and nothing happened, IP did not change How do you force the IP change? Other things work fine, like changing names, but setting static IP of clients does not work

I have static addresses to most the devices on my Unifi USG Pro 4 What I can not figure out is how to output a list of the devices and their ip address Having them in a form that is printed, text, pdf or anything other than looking at the screen would be very helpful I am a novice at this I realize this video is 2 years old

I used a static IP on my AP after tinkering with subnets Had an issue with the AP beeing assigned with a different VLAN and I couldnt provision it Super annoying

I'm trying to set a static IP for a WiFi printer on my Unifi 24 port switch It seems I can configure devices to use a static IP, but when I go to the WiFi clients, I see a message in orange that states: "USG REQUIRED" and a popup message that says "This feature requires a unifi security gateway" Why would I need a USG to assign a static IP to a wifi client?

Hi Willie, changed my new Ubiquity equipment to static IPs and the switches returned after provisioning to Connected HDX They returned to optimal connectivity after I reset them to DHCP I agree with you about infrastructure equipment having static addresses but I don't want to hobble their throughput Any suggestions?

Willie- Awesome video! Random question, what is the preferred setup for default gateway and preferred DNS? Should they be different? I know what the difference is in what they actually are, but I don't think I've ever learned what a good "default" setting should be for preferred DNS I know on my actual router/settings within windows I use the two google DNS, but for unifi devices, what should I use?

ah! so if the power goes out and back on and all of my wifi smart things disappear it could be because my APs changed IPs or just for managing APs?

Management, corporate, public, IoT vlans Which VLAN can access other VLANS, should management VLAN access Internet, should network equipment be on it's own VLAN (management)? too many question It will be nice to give a brief Willie Howe network architecture lesson learn

Newbie here and so my understanding might not be complete But how do you change IPs of non-UniFi? Apple TVs, smart TVs, printers etc I get this is so I can easily find them again, but is this really a big issue in a home network? Any downsides of static IPs?

I setup my network with some gaps for addition Example, router and switches 1-9, aps 10-19, servers 20-29, etc That way if I add a switch or ap I can keep all the ips close

Great idea for spreadsheet Only other recommendation when building is to design expansion into the plan When I plan my networks I always take either the first 25-40 ip addresses and keep them for static availability Leaves at least 200 in addresses available for dhcp devices Great job!

You mentioned doing a video on network addressing that would be great and make me understand in your spreadsheet you show nas/phone systems as 666-6610 and when you were setting up the last access point you were showing the dns as 6610 ,what is on 6610 that is giving out the dns info ?

The best video I have seen on subnetting is Laz Dias’ He walks you through it from IP ranges to private address spaces to a fast way to calculate network ID, broadcast ID and usable addresses

Alot of IP phone's are built in a way so that if they are set to DHCP, and they cannot reach the DHCP server to renew the phone will just continue to use the IP it had

What about use case scenarios for MAC reservations vs static IP’s? I do Control4 smart home programming, and I prefer MAC reservations for IP controlled devices that are likely to get defaulted by the customer Blu-Ray players, TV’s, AppleTV’s, Roku’s, etc That way if they do get defaulted, they will still draw the appropriate IP and I don’t get a phone call I do however usually give my switches and cloud key a static, but not usually the AP’s I might rethink the AP’s though

Is there any way to configure the USG to be on a management network that is separate from the default LAN network? I have LAN set on 1921682x right now and Management VLAN on 19216820x All my other switches and APs are on the Management VLAN, but I don't see a way to separate the USG from the 2x network Trying to get everything off of untagged network or am I thinking it wrong?
