Never had the “green thumb”, but could not resist 3 baby succulent plants I found at Aldis Please comment on ideal soil depth I bought sometime ago an oval vegetable dish that is approximately 2-1/8 inches deep at it’s deepest point I once read succulents like shallow depth Do they grow out if they don’t have the depth to grow down? My question is why is it when you get succulents from the nursery or the store? They are planted in what looks like a potting soil mix? And they seem to be doing OK? I don’t understand Comment from : Danna Leimkuehler |

I've just bought the cactus soil brIf i add perlite, or granite to the mix it will help?brWill any tiny rocks help, brI've tried growing them so many times they always rot, never heard of bottom water? Comment from : Maranatha |
|
I was pretty much forced to use the cactus soil bags since the stores I went to didn't have the rocks needed Online threads didn't help me much with the rocks needed either They were recently repotted with just the soil Would they be okay in it? I live in Cali in an apartment and they sit by the only window that gets sun in the morning to afternoon and it also gets hot by window as well Should I get a grow light for them instead? Comment from : TheAngelEffect |
|
I'm in WA state South Bright window, I'm doing vintage tins, and ceramics that don't have drain holes So far (7 weeks) they seem fine because I rinse out marble white rock chips and place these on the bottom 1/3 before I add my self made succulent soil Is this bad? Also using Vintage coffee mugs that are large, and I can't drill holes in these Comment from : Jennifer Cronk |
|
Yah I figured out that my echeveria has very wet soil but it's because the amount of sun light can't dry out the soil indoors Comment from : Anthony Gibson |
|

I've grown flower beds , Vegetable gardens and house plants to the point you could sell them for 100's of dollars after purchasing as a sad little plant I felt sorry for in the store or found! Now let me tell Succulents or a different creature! I've already killed 2 I don't over water Although I'm wondering if I got the soil when transplanting to close to their leaves ? After watering and leaving them under the grow light my house is bright except for Winter all the sun goes to the south now it's coming back around to the west as spring begins They had the grow light from the beginning so I know that's not their problem When I water again the leaves under the plant have died or are dying Both of them died this way Now on that same situation I have 4 that are thriving with no problems and they are planted the exact same way The ones that died had the thicker leaves on them I don't know the names I get them on Amazon and they send you 5 at a time etc Os it possible there is a succulent that don't do well in the home? Or could it be I need to move the dirt away from the bottom of those particular plants I've since gotten Bonsai pebbles small ones to put in the 25" pot on top I got my succulent soil on Amazon it has a lot of peril it's in it I can add more if need be Can you share your thoughts as I really want to grow these but they seem to be the one thing I'm having issues withbrI've been watering them about every 2 weeks till the water start pouring out the hole in the pot They are in small succulent pots quite a bit larger than what they came in Not so large that they will grow huge Thanks for any assistance I'm getting frustrated to say the least I wanted plants that need less care inside since I do have so much outside and I got rid of all my huge plants couldn't transplant them no more HAHAHA 🤣 So with that said I know how to grow just not these Sincerely Desperate Succulent Mom Comment from : Marshella Whitehead |

Is it okay to mix potting soil with fine rock? Comment from : Daisy Baucom |

Mine tend to stretch, so now I understand they need more light! Wondering if putting outdoors for a few hours a day can help when unable to provide optimal indoor positioning? Also, I was of the misunderstanding that one should spray daily, and they have definitely suffered during periods when I cannot keep up, so I'll start the deep watering:dryout method Hoping they can adjust even in a more mature state Tks! I’m caring for my friends succulent, I don’t know what type it is but looks like the one at 2:35, she’s been watering it twice a day- but she wasn’t sure if she was over watering it, so I was wondering how much I should water it? Also my cat bit off a small tip of one of the leaves, is it too late for it? I really don’t want it to die, she would kill me 🥲 I know this is 3 years late but was really hoping you could help me out!! Comment from : odynxva |

I remember when I 1st started on growing succulents now 3 years ago I watched as many videos I could find and you are one of my favorite Thank you for this vital information I have still made many mistakes but have enjoyed much success as well I just redid all my snake plants that survive well inside here in the Vancouver Canada area I was trying to search if you can put pearls with the snake plants as my pearls seems to get mealy bugs and I have lost too many Someone just gave me a whole pot of pearls--should I just keep them that way? As what kind of light do they need? Thanks for all your sharing it sure has helped my journey with these wonderful and fascinating plants Comment from : Cindy Ferguson |

Hi I live in Scotland Not the sunniest of countries! Just bought two plants, reduced, from a local hardware store They are in what I can only describe as a 'peaty' soil In pots with no drainage I am really keen to help my plants live and thrive So, can I repot now? Do succulents require feeding? If so, how much and when I also cannot offer them the light they need, only in summer does my chosen spot get several hours of sunlight when available I'm thinking I made a hasty decision to buy, but, they're mine now and I want to care for them properly Thanks for reading Comment from : onlyhuman1954 |

Succulents indoors in my experience die quickly from rot so I have to literally almost forget to water them I removed the curtains of the window directly facing Southwest so the strong afternoon sun can hit them They seem to be doing much better in a bone dry environment, like my cacti I live in the humid Northeast Comment from : Progressive Discussions |

I'm a new succulent mom I'm realizing now mine might not get enough sunlight in my apartment I'm wondering what your thoughts are on having succulents be indoor/outdoor plants? I'm hesitant to leave them out all the time and I know they won't get enough light inside, so I could take them out each day and bring them in the evening? I was also wondering what your suggestion would be if I already potted them in the lowes cactus mix without adding anything to help with drainage? Your videos have been so helpful already! Comment from : Kizzie |
