I always do badly on non acidemic tests as they always provide answer choices that don't even come close to being truly relevant or question answer combos that make alot of assumptions or fall to stereotypes themselvesbrMany seem merely to be made to reinforce a desired conclusionbrMany are just badly made by people unable to see past their one focus Comment from : KelsaRavenlock |

It breaks my heart that this video was extremely relevant 5 years ago when it was made and is STILL relevant Active discrimination and prejudice against certain individuals with “unconventional” backgrounds is still a problem that runs rampant in our society It’s time to educate and inform our current generations on what needs to change Comment from : Haley Grisham |
All the things he mentioned in this video are so prevalent in the things that are going on today So many people are fighting for their own in-group at the expense of taking down others Rather than being hostile, we should educate on the subject by watching videos like this one that makes it easier for us to understand By doing this, we can make this whole world a better place Comment from : QJack11 |
I feel that this CrashCourse is very relevant for today's society especially with everything going on with racism I would have to say not just racism but this could be targeted towards Mental Illness as well Many people are prejudice and discriminate people who have mental illness and they don't take the time to learn about that person It could be how someone was raise to have views towards that topic Very good video to inform people about Prejudice and Discrimination brOrlando Goodwin Comment from : Orlando Goodwin |
Implicit Association "is surprisingly predictive of discriminatory behavior in all kinds of experimental settings" Yes it is true in simple experimental settings but it doesn't mean at all that it is predictive for - usually extremely complex - real life behavior Comment from : Jekey Daniel |
Every politician should do an IAT Comment from : ImaginaryMdA |
I think we've done a great job at bringing lots of awareness to issues like this in the US and the western world However, I can't help but think how non-western countries aren't as informed as we are, yet the amount of prejudice and discrimination seems almost the same I'm optimistic, but sometimes I can't help but think that things will remain the same in the world Comment from : Jennifer Garrido |
I remember being part of an in-group out-group experiment in elementary school I'm 58 We've know about this stuff for a couple generations now It hasn't helped change it Why? Comment from : Robert DiGangi-Roush |
I found this video to be very informational I believe that as a Western country who host countless of mental health conferences and such each year, we have to do a better job of spreading information to these non-Western countries in order to rid the discrimination people suffering from mental illnesses face Comment from : Allyssa Hill |
I find this video vey informational I wish more people understood this and new what was going on in today's society Comment from : Chenoa White |
I know this has nothing to do with what's going on with black lives matter but how do black lives matter when your part of lgbqt community isn't that genocide Also if black lives matter why don't you help each other rise up or help each other daily not just for evil purposes but from your heart without excepting anything in return I'm sorry I had to bring it up though just curious Comment from : Christina Jones |
thnx really helped me Comment from : vibhav tandon |

I doubt discriminating against a fat person because we think they are lazy for a job that constantly requires them to exert themselves is discriminatory hanks People aren't born fat they become fat and that can hinder them physically It isn't some subtle stuff like their skin color that doesn't affect their ability to do stuff Comment from : Index Clone |
Standard police protocol, You never know what they are reaching for, It could be a gun, It could be keys, if someone (any race) gets up and walks away from the police, that raises suspicion Comment from : CallsignJester |

Except the science actually shows a bias in the opposite direction While trying to prove there's a white cop bias against minorities they actually found there was a bias against whites Here's a thought teach our children in schools how to behave when interacting with the police Or is that too big brained? Comment from : Go Away |

Wake up people! The harsh truth is that If you are ugly, no matter what the color of your skin is, your going to face 'discrimination' Comment from : Lawn Mower |
WHY do people discriminate? Is there an psychological advantage to discriminate? Logic learns that prejudice is contra productive so can we unlearn discriminative behavior? Comment from : Jan N |
Why doesn't our good "educator" here mention the voluminous amount of researching showing implicit bias training is a) worthless and b) has actually been shown to make things even worse Why hasn't he gone over its critiques? I'll tell you why, because implicit bias is religious in nature, it is akin to expiating the devil from your soul and thus it is impervious to critique That is not an accident Comment from : Dooker T |
This whole thing is forwarding the debunked idea of "implicit bias", not by the fact that it does or doesn't exist, but pretending you can take any individual and read their mind based on immutable characteristics It ends in ghost hunting, but only by stereotyping one racial group as being worthy of having its ghosts hunted Comment from : Dooker T |

The case of Amadou Diall was so sad but I do understand how the cops responded being that to them it made no sense the guy would be fishing in his pocket for a walletHe should have told cops he wanted to show them his ID Also, how did the narrator here know he was placed hands in pocket to retrieve wallet being that if he was hit by 19 of 40 bullets? I assumed he died and couldn't tell anyone that was his intent and what if he DID have a gun and meant to shoot at cops, but left it in his other pants and they discovered he only had a wallet and assumed he was digging for that and not a weapon? He was 23, not that young to do something so dumb as to go for wallet while cops are pointing guns at him if he had been 10, I could imagine his lack of life experience may have caused him to make this poor choice of behavior Comment from : Mia Meow |
Oh My god I just realized what hank pulled out the applications that I go to the same high school as John Green Went to! Comment from : 21st Century Gothic |
i think most cops r trying to do the best they can so calling them racist all the time won't help continue the conversation these subtle thought processes should be corrected in their education and critical thinking skills should be honed they shouldnt mistake bias as gut feelings or hunches Comment from : Julie |
Judging people based on preconceived notions Is part of what’s wrong America Predjudice helps nurture discrimination which leads to so many deaths and injustices that never had to happen if people were more educated Comment from : Kel Wilson |
Would have preferred you to speak a bit more slowly I did not want to miss what you were 'teaching' Comment from : Delores Rosenblatt |
Thank you it is very useful 👏🏻👍 Comment from : Ashmita Prakash |
Discrimination changes with each generation just a little bit This video was insightful on the subject of prejudice against hiring a female to work on your car vs a male 20 years ago that would have been unheard of, but in today's society its not uncommon to see a woman under the hood working on engines 20 years ago you wouldn't have seen a man at home taking care of children and the home, today this is common for some families It all depends on the situation The trouble is that you still have old fashioned people with old fashioned feelings that can't get past the fact that women can do what men can do and men can do what women can do Comment from : Brett Burks |
Everyone: talking about school brbrMe: realizing I’m a fricken nerd because I’m watching this for fun Comment from : Schmlif |
I took the Harvard IAT and apparently I am slightly biased toward women Not saying this is a good thing, but I thought it was interestingbrOh, I am also slightly biased toward darker skinned people Does this just mean I like myself a lot? :) Comment from : Serena Lizinnqui |
I listened to the first 1:30 min, when law enforcement asks to see your hands, it is not okay to reach into your pockets because this could put law enforcement or other peoples lives in danger The best thing to do is to show hands as officers request and answer any questions they may have briefly, honestly and with respect They are protecting our communities are likely saving our lives by putting theirs on the line everyday The least we can do is assume that they are here to help and serve since this is what they take the oath to do There are always idiots out there who abuse power and act stupid, they will be exposed and removed But for the most part, these people care deeply and want to help us stay safe And why is this thumbnail a picture of only white people, does this imply that the only racists in the world are white? That in and of itself is a racist suggestion There should be all color faces on this thumbnail as it is suggestion content on race, not suggesting that the content is about white men Comment from : Skinner & Partners |
so i took the iat and apparently i have a moderate automatic preference for young people over old people and lol i didn't like to see thatbri wonder if that's from my being culturally conditioned or somethingbrbut just to be clear, i don't care if you're old or young just saying of course i care more about your morals and stuff 😛 Comment from : apple juice blair |

That moment when you look at the grad school syllabus and realize your professor just assigned a Crash Course Video to watch :) This makes me so happy! Comment from : Julianne Osborne |
it would be useful to knowbra ) what is the internal or subjective mechanism of prejudice, and what do people who have prejudices feel about itbrb) what in general is needed to create new prejudicesbrc) whether there are general tests of prejudice or does one have to test for a specific known prejudice, one at a time Comment from : akhil999in |
I think group polarization can intensify our opinions on people and it can also influence our stereotypes on people It's very sad that we think this way but we're always stereotyping whether it's a negative or positive stereotype Comment from : diana hernandez |
I think it is crazy that things such as being prejudice and discriminatory, are related to psychology in some way Comment from : Kenzi Land |
This is a great video and I am sure it is seen in the united states a lot more than in other countries do to the fact that we are so diverse and everyone is so politically correct There are all types of different answers to discriminatory questions depending on who you ask Comment from : Bradford Doherty |
One of my first thoughts, when watching and learning out the ingroup-outgroup phenomenon, was the Rwandan Genocide Primarily two groups, Hutus and the Tutsi, were pitted against each other The need to feel belonging and safety in a group was used against these people People are also biased to favor the group they belong to The government definitely used these natural tendencies against the people in order to incite war Comment from : Anna Kersey |
Discrimination is a huge topic and a lot of people feel as though that it does not exist It sad that people have to be killed or locked up to catch a break It’s not right or okay to treat people different because of their race, gender, beliefs and etc People will never understand the situation until it happens to them Comment from : Destiny Walker |
I thought the information about the ingroup-outgroup phenomenon and the ingroup bias was very interesting I totally agree with you when you said that you can find examples of this all throughout history There are plenty of times when groups of people thought they were better than other groups, and because of that, a lot of conflict and violence emerged A lot of these occurrences are totally unnecessary, too Comment from : Taylor Doddridge |
Any other resources from this channel regarding more direct prejudice? Implicit bias is certainly a useful no-fault finding for explaining a shooting, but the broader issue is the body of law which directs power such that perception of risk is regarded as legally adequate protection for a law-enforcement officer discharging their duties to discharge their firearm Emphasizing implicit bias is maybe a useful introductory teaching tool, but the deeper "implicit" bias present in the legal system's status quo isn't really noted in this episode In addition, there is substantial ground to cover regarding "implicit bias" in the wording chosen to describe what happened Lots of passive language and generic attribution for actions presented in such reports Maybe making an additional video on this subject might someday be possible? I would like that, though of course by commenting on this video I am already evidently an outlier in terms of audience interactions, given the small proportion of comments relative to other metrics associated with this video I wish you well, and apologize for this absurdity; I've had a long day -Nick Sabaj Comment from : cthulu42sabaj |
Stereotypes are a shorthand way of sizing thing's up They wouldn't be there if they were completely wrong Like all such shorthand they should be amiable to new information it's only when they become rigidly used that there's a problem Comment from : Gerard Virgona |
Culture is such a huge part of prejudice and discrimination and whether or not we confide in it I grew up around mental illness and understanding it is not a bad thing, but a sickness that needs treatment However, many non-western cultures were not raised the same way or in the same environment as me This causes them to have prejudice towards and discriminate against those that are suffering from mental illness Comment from : Morgan C |
