I agree with the others on how fascinating this is Unless you see things like this you have no idea in what it takes to do this kind of things Bravo to you Sir Only regret I see is that when he passes on that there will be no one to carry on this tradition Sad sad sad Comment from : @TheBart49 |

G'day Dave Those buggy wheels look like toys compared to what you've been working on but I still enjoy the process👍 Comment from : @WayneT51 |
Good one to add to the playlist Comment from : @accessiblenow |
Dave, have your spoke pointer and tenon cutter been modified to fit a regular drill chuck? Thanks Been enjoying your videos for several years now Comment from : @TheLoneWolfForge |
That is a quite remarkable piece of geometry using the most basic of equipment and getting the circumference of the fellowes and the tyres bang on Would have been so easy to make the new versions too loose or not fit at all Brilliant Comment from : @keithbrowning3899 |
How do you know how many pieces to make the felloe's? In this case it was 2 pieces of wood, some times its a lot more? Comment from : @EitriBrokkr |
It’s really too bad you don’t have a young apprentice Comment from : @ariennelandry9207 |
Thank You 🙏 Comment from : @bruceyoung1343 |
You need to get an apprentice so all your knowledge isn’t lost to time It’s unbelievable all the wonderful things you have learned and know all the short cuts that’s needed Comment from : @user-gs8gs8ct6p |
wow only two fellie sectionsThat must have been a wise peice of wood that came out of? Comment from : @pauls4708 |
I was wondering just how many hammer hits you've done in your lifetime Has to be in the millions Comment from : @soranuareane |

After working on the 1500 lb wheels this must feel so easy Comment from : @jack002tuber |
Never get tired of watching those rubbers go on 👍 Comment from : @matnaylor8939 |
Hi Dave, I've been a long time viewer of your skilled craftsmanshipbrOne thing that I need to ask is why do you not have an apprentice who you can pass on your skillsbrIt seems a total waste to lose the experience and talent, you so obviously havebrAnyway, thank you for your video's that show the legacy of a master at work with a true love of the history he recreates Comment from : @robhiggins3085 |
Dave how long might a rubber tyre last? If it was getin regular use Comment from : @geraldfitzgibbon7428 |
Getting back to the logging wagon wheels, considering how much trouble getting the ends of the spokes vertically/centrally in line with the Fellowes, why can’t the spokes enter the Fellowes at an angle? It would not be much out of line and would be 50/50 spread amongst the spokes Comment from : @bryanduncan1640 |
Still like seeing you make wheels Shortened version are great and little variation is nice Great channel followed for many years Comment from : @maknifeandrods7701 |
Brilliant Comment from : @johnhughes8563 |
I wonder how long it took to make a wheel in the old days and were there people that only made wheels ⚡️ Comment from : @johnnymac1580 |
Take a lot of work to do that you know but thank you While I've been watching for years, all this work you put in and the modern kids whenever file behind you it's like a lost art Comment from : @CantKillMe |
I've been watching you build wheels so long I'm pretty sure I could apprentice in that shop, no problem Lol I understand the nomenclature and I've worked as both a mechanic and a carpenter Now all I gotta do is find a set of wheels to work on! Comment from : @fordfan3179 |
Just brilliant to watch as way always Dave 👍👍👍👍👍 Comment from : @johnwaby4321 |
As a newcomer to the channel, I am a little confused by two terms, felloes and fellies They appear to be the same thing Is there any difference? (I am extremely impressed by the very high standard of your craftsmanship As a regular diy-er, I know that nothing is as easy as you make it seem!) Comment from : @brianshersby8979 |
شكرا لك عمل رائع Comment from : @thebabylon2933 |
Dave - As I watch this, I am not seeing a wheel video But am watching a man that is so in tune with the process that you are in automatic mode, effortless no second guessing, just accurate and methodical and no wasted moves Your years of experience really comes through Thanks Comment from : @leehound |
David, is the channel section you use for the rims, a special ultra low carbon steel to make it extra malleable cold, a bit like a modern day version of wrought iron or is is just regular mild steel? Comment from : @wilsonlaidlaw |
Dave, have you ever thought about getting a foot switch for your drill press for when you're chamfering and cutting tennons? I notice it's a bit of a juggling act when you have to lower the tennon cutter onto the tapered end, hold it down, hold the spider from spinning, AND start the machine Comment from : @beardyeighty |
Very elegant Comment from : @jeanhawken4482 |
Nevertheless, it's always a pleasure to watch someone as skilled as you work, if we are only exposed to a little amount of work that this took You say you had thise wheels kicking around for some time, does that mean the carriage had a spare set? If you havent already done so it would be interesting to hear from you on the tools used or techniques before the advent of the industrial revolution Many thanks again for bringing so much enjoyment and learning to thousands, you are a true master and we your thankful apprentices Comment from : @markthomas919 |
I know Dave doesn't care to make wheels these days, but when he does, it's pure joy to watch Comment from : @terry6131 |
Very interesting watching your process, I've never seen that before That's a cool old ring roller you've got, I love seeing old tools like that Comment from : @FarmsteadForge |
I was very surprised to hear you say been hanging around for 7 years better get it home 😀😀😀👍 you normally get them done quickly Take care It was nice seeing your wife helping you doing the logs don’t see much of her now And is your daughter doing good You both take care 😀 Comment from : @paulstanding7267 |
You just made me laugh I was working on a jobsite way out in the country, the homeowners had torn down some old barns to build their houses, as I was working I noticed a piece of bent channel iron in the dumpster and thought to myself to pull it out What I pulled out was about 1-3/4" wide and 10 feet long with a bend in it that made it slightly U shaped The edges of the channel would face out from the U You have me wondering if someone had tried to make their own wheel repair for ta tire and put the piece to the side for some reason Comment from : @ohhpaul7364 |
👍👍👍 Comment from : @nedimbuyukafsar6434 |
😄👍 Comment from : @jillatherton4660 |

I always like small jobs during similar large jobs Sometimes, it feels like we're progressing really slowly on large jobs, and the small jobs just kind of show that it's not us that have slowed down but the job that is big Comment from : @johannesfr |

Must be a nice change of pace doing these tiny wheels which you are as familiar with as walking and breathing Comment from : @maggs131 |
cheers Dave, I know you arent all that excited by run of the mill wheelwrighting jobs these days, but I have to say videos like these are my absolute happy place I could watch you doing this stuff every day as there's always a little tip or trick (or piece of equipment) that I can get from every single one Thanks so much for doing these; speaking purely for myself, I love watching this Comment from : @glenn9229 |
I'm curious how you have wheels laying about for several years, does the owner/customer that brought you those wheels not chase you for them Comment from : @alangordon1677 |
👏👍 Comment from : @shaunnit |
