It's about 30 seconds more work to take the cassette off, use your grease gun to squeeze some grease in past the cones et voila, you've done a 'short' hub service Less chance of ball-bearing loss as well

another Quick Fix would have been to ADD a washer or two to the over exposed axle (non-drive side in this case) This would allow the quick release to bite the frame a little more until a proper rebuild could happen Thoughts on this?

On my old Pugsley, the Shimano hub cones loosen often I suppose if you just finger tighten them when you put the wheel back in the frame, you could be pulling the axel to one side
