In Chan's book Bonsai master class definitive chapter in list of varietes that airlayer easilu, there are 3 pines excluding zuisho I'd like to know if that is a mistake or what?brI zuisho is owbiously air layering specirs that os only that is confirmed by many souces including Julian R Adams and there is no reason to even consider that being wrong, but abou the other ones I am curious, and not the least because one local pine is included in it Comment from : @samimurtomaki5534 |

why not prop up some of her branches with rocks cleaning the fallen needles would be easier with a tiny rake and perhaps look better ?? i dont know Comment from : @maryllp4857 |
I bet in the cold windy mountains, that growth habit with all the dead needles in the branches insulates and protects the tree Comment from : @greenghost6691 |
Hope they won’t come out and bite mesweet, that’s been my thought for half hour Comment from : @russelldooley6262 |
I remember a story of a group of people that wen out to "prune" the bush but every one knowing that they had a permission to do that in a reservoir except one young man that was a little bit scared for a while He was reassured in person ,I think, by the owner Comment from : @nicolamarini |
Good Lord That is a dinosaur trunk It would be scary to see as a bonsai Comment from : @SuperPeleke |

If it is a rare type of pine it would be good to see you using some of the cuttings to propagate it and increasing your stock ? Comment from : @brendasmith3037 |
CRIKEY!!!!!brThat is a huge transformation!!! I thought you were slightly chop happy but you really brought out the true lines and nature of the tree It will look great when it gets its next flush of growthbrOn a side note, for your camera mic, try sticking some uphulstory foam to it That should help to dampen the wind interference I learnt that from a vlogger a while back Comment from : @StephenTurnerVlogs |
I love your demos l can not stop watching l love them I plan on doing this hobby as soonas possible Comment from : @marionarmstrong3675 |
This is great! I have only recently started to be a bit more into landscaping, and your videos are ever so inspiring! There are several old trees in my garden that have been growing for 10 years, that would make great bonsai if I start pruning them now So please, keep sharing those videos, they are really helpful! Comment from : @Opceedee |
I just love watching you work It’s so peaceful and interesting A meditative experience in today’s hectic and troubled times Comment from : @barbkrienke8400 |
Shoutouts to the camera man This is the second video I saw him take a moment to zoom in on some random background occurrence while filming Last time it was a clever zoom out to a foreground flower on a bonsai out of frame, and this time it was the Koi in the pond You have very good intuition Comment from : @adamgm84 |
Another wonderful video💘brThank you for inspiring me to engage with the art of bonsai! Comment from : @user-rd4pu1lw8t |

I think you made the right choice It would be sad to dig it up from its original spot after all this time It looks very happy and settled, especially now that it is donning its smart, new summer coat Nice work Peter Comment from : @sallyhumphreys2410 |
A month ago I pruned, wired, shaped and potted a box-store juniper bonsai I had purchased in Home Depot 2 years ago Yesterday while watering I noticed all the new growth and I swear in my head I heard “Look at all the lovely new growth this plant has produced” In Peter’s voice Comment from : @johntedesco6304 |

Mr Chan, it was very good to see how you deal with such big and old garden trees, but could you please show it in a year time so I can see how it buds back I never saw how a old pine buds back and I do not know what to expect Thanks for this valuble lesson Comment from : @eddyvandeven5963 |

What a beautiful puzzle that pine has provided I dream of dealing with such a specimen! How many of you out there wish you lived close to Herons so you could volunteer? It's videos like this that make me fantasize about being a gardener that specializes in pines Comment from : @smumm |
The tree compliments the waterfall beautifully! Or does the waterfall compliment the tree? Great feature in a garden! Comment from : @tolbaszy8067 |
Beautiful pond, I hope you can show us how to create/add a new branch in the bonsai tree, example a juniper bonsai Comment from : @Dowealth |
I also oppose the US bonsai people who take Yamadori bonsai from the wild instead of taking the time to develop the tree themselves Comment from : @rozzab6993 |
It is very easy to airlayer a mugo pine peter ! Please think about that Comment from : @wase5607 |
I love watching your videos here in the US have you done any root over rock videos ? it would be interesting to see how to start one Comment from : @frankg6161 |
Either air layer it or find its last root shoot towards the end (i cant remember the proper term as i assume it has leaders from it as it grow outwards) and grow it over some rocks or cascade it on a 2 tier table in 2 pots Excellent work as always Comment from : @kyleruddock9100 |
Most people have never seen a horizontal trunk before! It is unique and amazing It hugs your embankment and when you do the other one, it will be like having two venerable guardians overlooking your pond and garden Like you said, you have dozens of mugs bonsais, but only two horizontal trunks You will do the right thing! Cheers Comment from : @jyothilavigne2263 |
By far the most youthful 80 year old I know of😁 always love watching your content! Comment from : @Qvigg |
Lovely plant Not so rare now, you can buy a 5 litre pot for about £25 from nurseries Comment from : @Dillshellard |
Can't wait to see how the other pine turns out Love watching you work You're videos are so peaceful Comment from : @kathleenquinn8538 |
It was exciting to see the shape of the trunk revealed as you cut some branches and pulled others back Beautiful old twisted structure I have a similar mugo which is threatening to overwhelm a small garden bed I may have enough courage now to thin it Comment from : @frogpalpeeper4249 |
Peter, your garden is looking lovelier every time you show it A quick Q: any chance of a video on accent plants for display on your benches? UK Comment from : @briankavanagh7191 |
Bonsai in place!!! Comment from : @pablocrypto1687 |
I am really glad you left it in its spot there in the rocks It is really perfect there And now, with the trimming, it is nearly like having a bonsai, only not in a pot The Germans have a word—which I've forgotten, alas—for these trees found near treeline in the high mountains Often, over the millenia, these trees have adapted to grow horizontally Maybe this how the genealogy of your mugo pines there came about I have certainly never seen one with that habit Comment from : @jgurtz |
Make a bonsai from one of these! Comment from : @hagakuretv |
No Let it be, so beautiful like that Comment from : @rosanadancel7225 |

I would very much like to spend a month or so at your nursery doing landscaping and deeping my plant knowledge at your nursery I'm a trained landscaper (hard and soft) currently studying Landscaping and Management (BE) at the University of Applied Science Weihenstephan in Germany If however is managing this channel could point me to any internship or Travel-and-Work opportunities you might have, I'd be grateful Comment from : @dakunssd |
A Wonderful video which i Enjoyed every minute of Thank you very much 😄brI followed Peter thought process and think the tree is were it should be 👍 Comment from : @stuartbaines2843 |
Videos like this one really confuse me On the one hand, the initial bush of green foliage looked so nice - like a natural fence decorating the rocks Yet after Peter's brilliant surgery the tree looks superb, a genuine piece of art Peter, you are a true artist, thank you for making this beuty you create accessible to so many people! Comment from : @ekaterinavdovinets2721 |
Very nice tree, I would leave it there Peter, you already have too many bonsai ;)! I have a creeping Mugo too but it's only about 1m wide I started an air-layering on it recently, I hope it will succeed but I read it can take as much as 2 years Have a nice day! Comment from : @Steven3D8888 |

Wow😱if it was my tree id named that one Medusa, wouldn't know what to do with such complex shape and rare tree Bravo Peter !! Hope to see it in a pot someday stay safe to all and Cheers Comment from : @MidniteSan |
Hope you always check for nests Comment from : @stephencopland1053 |
This was a really nice watch It was very satisfying to watch the shape of a bonsai come out from a regular ol' pine bush if you will :) Comment from : @ingeborg-anne |
My parents had a creeping pine hedge that they had no idea how to handle It was huge, unruly and died back a lot from lack of sunlight They wound up digging it up in the end because they didn't know to prune it hard like you do to yours Comment from : @ingeborg-anne |
Thanks peter 🙏🏾 Comment from : @frasiegee9932 |
Thanks Peter for another great video to keep us sane! Comment from : @MrPotato0302 |
