I'll say this I learned about the ninja star when I was a kid, and the reason why more points were added to certain stars was to increase the likelihood of sticking your opponent So maybe since the star-shaped line has more vertices, there's really not much room for the grass blades to get caught on and ripped before it actually gets cut Comment from : Wyatt Thacker |
Weed wacker Comment from : Nicky G |

I wonder if the "sharp sharp square" not tracking well is a feature Seems like it would mulch up the grass better once cut, which could be preferred over piles of detached grass :P Comment from : PiousMinion |

You would assume that anything with a sharp edge will cut more cleanly but from experience i also say that anything with a corner (sharp edge) will break more easily as well The simple round lines tend to last longer in my experience Comment from : Brett Wilson |
Grew up in Texas It's a weed-eater, folks Comment from : Fire Slug |
I have noticed a good cutting line runs out faster I would like to see a durability test on chain link, trees, concrete and other basic obstacles in a yard I would also like to see a test on the different trimmer heads with stationary blades or replaceable lengths of line Comment from : sgsellsit |
Here is the issue with your test: it only accounts for a single blade of grass Maybe they behave differently when faced with multiple spersed out like actual grass brI am also curious about what you said regarding heavy brush I wanna see the effect all of these have on heavy weeds or overgrown mass Comment from : 50ShadesOFGandalfTheGrey |
Interesting bit on the name I grew up calling them weed eaters, I've come to call them weed wackers, as that just seems more accuratebrI used star back when I was in the city and didn't really know or need it After Upgrading to a real trimmer, they sell sharp sharp square right next to it, and have been using that sincebrI also don't go full bore unless needed, I keep the speed down to save gas and linebrGoing to switch up to star I'll let you know how it does in the thick Comment from : relmdrifter |
Das is ne Motorsense Comment from : Fortune Two |

Larger diameter cord is for larger machines It's better for heavier grass/weeds and has better longevity I used to work in a mower shop, and got mixed reviews on all cord types, but the star cord seemed to make people happy more often than not Comment from : Connor Williams |

Idk about you but I use really small round line for lawn so I don't accidentally cut into it and make it look "unlevel" because the small line will just bounce back and not cut too deep in my lawn, but for around the house, objects and behind house I use bigger square line, it's also good for tall grass, it cuts trough without effort Comment from : Josip Kasalo |
I'm surprised I thought that triangle was going to be the best and the star a waste of money and time but turns out the star is the best because the more it cuts the less work you have to do Comment from : Quan Mack |
Try doing a video recording of the performance and breakage of the weedeater trimmer line against grass near construction material (ie, brick, concrete, fencing, and natural vs man-made stone) Such as edging a driveway, sidewalk, or against a commercial or residential structure, and identifying which line breaks the fastest against the hard surfaces the trimmer line encounters Comment from : The Sandwich Freak |
You said 'cut grass' if it is a weed eater as you said, mustn't you say 'eat grass?' Comment from : Wolf |

I don't have much experience with cutting one blade of grass at a time, in an indoor environment with tension on each blade of grassbrbrBut I do have plenty of experience with cutting a whole 45' x 135' yard of St Augustine grassbrbrBecause of a future Honda recall, my HRX217 has been in the shop for months, and I had to cut my entire lawn with my weed eaterbrbrI noticed that the cheaper more economical lines damaged the ends/tips of my grass so badly, an hour after cutting, my yard looked brown and dead I tried different lines, to try to get a cleaner and healthier cut - So my yard would look green and healthy an hour after cutting brI found that the twisted 105 You gave me the best results and the greenest and healthiest looking yard! Comment from : Eldon Ladner |

I’m from NJ and in a minority neighborhood at my age, you say Wacker, it’s an innuendo It’s a weed wacker, even though it trims weeds… in my book, you are good either way Oh, they are very easy to fix, too It’s almost always a $20 carb and hose replacement Comment from : Andre N2JDH |
definitely a weedeater Comment from : Jerry McWeston |
How do you know a “clean cut” is what is best for the grass as far as growth, health, better finished look?brbrIt would be interesting to see same thing done with the solid devices that replace the string Comment from : Hummer VS |
