Hello, what a fascinating video this method of seed dispersal is ballistic in nature why it is called ballochory and the grass is probably a subspecies of flickweed of sort My guess to how this works is probably osmotic tension, or the tightening of the pod around the seed

There is a type of hedge shrub thing that does a similar thing with its seeds from pods They dry out, they twist Eventually, enough mechanical stress is generated and the pods explode into helical sections throwing the seeds away

i hate hairy bittercress it is one of the most difficult weeds to get rid of; i noticed it a couple years ago and i now have thousands of them in my yard i spent hours upon hours this year pulling them before they began to spread seeds they have an odd life cycle and im going to also use special weed killers to get them under control you have to spray them late fall with a pre-emergent and again late winter with a post-emergent for those you didnt kill in the fall

If you've ever seen wood sorrel (you probably have, even if you don't know it) it has pods with a similar mechanism They're a little more sturdy, though, so you can trigger them by pinching the top of the pod And the plant is edible and tangy as well Scientific yard snacks!
