I wouldn't be surprised if any animal turned up in a place it's not technically supposed to be in The truth is you can't say with 100 certainty say no grizzly bear has ever made it to North Carolina from the Rockies - you can only say there aren't documented cases of it Even if that were the case there's still the possibility of human interference, whether that means a bear escaping from a zoo or any other form of illegal captivity or being forced to relocate because of humans Praying matises are not a native species in my country and I still encountered a couple in the wild There's no 100, especially taking global warming and human interference into account

If the crow actually starting cawing harder when the bear got closer I don’t doubt it was actually a warning to the person It really could’ve been either one, especially if the crows in that area by hikers frequently, which I could imagine they do

Never rely on moss growing towards a specific direction on trees Unreliable at best, pure nonsense at worstbrbrEspecially when the reasoning you use (that there's more sun on the north facing side of trees) is total nonsense too Barring other obstructions (like trees in a forest *cough*) the North side of objects gets less light That would encourage moss growth because moisture evaporates more slowly on the north side But yeah, it's just bs brbrBring a compass and an awareness of the terrain if you're planning on entering the woods, even if you're just going on a marked trail
