When I was in my 20s my mom got a Birkin It still looks brand new, blue leather with denim canvas I always associate that bag with moms and old ladies Well you just told me the history, for holding baby bottles The bag still is very stiff and stands up like it was made yesterdaybrthe bag is over 35 years now

Practically speaking, it is unlikely that I would spend $1000 or more on a handbag The most I ever spent for a single bag was $400 (I think) more than 20yrs ago That "bag" was more of a briefcase in style and function -- a Coach all leather with both a leather wrapped handle as well as an over-the-shoulder 25-3in wide leather strap Although bought before laptops were common accessories and before the Internet had taken off (in the '80s or early '90s), I HAVE used it to haul my current laptop Other than that one, I usually pay no more than $200-300 for one, often less, and it is usually leather, canvas or nylon, or higher quality faux leather Most of my bags are from American brands such as Coach, Patricia Nash, etc The sizes range from an evening clutch, to an over-the-shoulder/crossbody every day bag for errand running, up to the aforementioned brief bag Anything larger is luggage 🧳 😉

A hand bag has to be flexible and rugged and big enough and have useful features like an attachment for your keys so you can find them quickly and not lose them Another important feature is rugged zipper(s) Right now I have what I call my Covid bag I bought it the day before Covid started in Toronto Canada (This was a complete accident that the bag turned out to be so useful) The bag is black canvas and goes over the shoulder and acts like my third arm It was a life saver for me that helped me navigate the miserable Covid restrictions No matter what terrible thoughts and hurt feelings I had I knew my important things were safely in my purse in front of me ready to use at a moments notice It has been a friend to me
