You forgot one thing, if you’re even remotely thinking about self hosting you need Linux

I have to use W10 at work and it was once quite stable But a number of bugs have crept in that I started cataloguing My list is now quite long Many are OS and many are with the Office suite Office peaked in 2013 and has gotten progressively more bloated since But there are just so many issues with things like alt-tabbing failing to work, Outlook jumping to the top at random when you're searching unreads, Excel refusing to open multiple documents until you move your mouse around, New Outlook being utterly broken upon release, etc And don't get me started on the asinine changes MS makes Like sneakily forcing all links to open in Edge when opened from Outlook even if you have another browser as the system default, Outlook moving the inbox/calendar buttons to the top-left and wasting a stupid amount of screen real estate on them, regularly changing the alt hotkeys for no reason, changing how object snapping works in all Office products to make it less responsive Teams sucks complete ass compared to Zoom in virtually every way, but because it links to O365 everyone has to use it I only used Win11 a few times trying to help a friend fix a few things and I could not fix any of their issues--being unable to fix things is not an issue I ever struggled with until W11brbrAnyway, I have none of these complaints about any Linux distro I've used Sometimes I have a little audio issue, but no distro ever seems to force an asinine little change that makes me pull my hair out in frustration It is always a joyous user experience

You can use the OS while it's updating Seriously I have never understood why Windows, macOS, iOS & Android all need to make me wait to use the OS while updates install but Linux can just install an update in place while you're using it At most you might have to do a brief reboot if there's a kernel update

My mid 2011 Mac Mini was fully unsupported, which Office 365 took great delight telling me to throw away and go spend a couple of grand on new hardware So I created a partition and installed Linux Mint, and guess what? My old Mini is now faster than my new work supplied HP running Windows! Libre Office is a must have, and sorry OpenOffice users, but honestly you need to move over, mostly for compatibility with Office docx files While I can boot in either Mac OS or Linux, I just prefer Linux!

windows is wrong, it screams for anything, give me money and you will be tracked anyway :) linux is great-cool because it gives you the choice of how you want you add additions you don't want you don't give I would still ask the developer to give the 10 dollars for chasing linuz in thanks for their work I have been using linux for over 10 years I'm happy with the games, I don't need a console for that :) I use linux because the system is mine, not only does it get leases, and I can't fully use the resources anyway etc :)

I don't even remember when I saw bluescreen on windows, the last time I had it was in xp or something like thatbrAlso don't remember any forced updates, bugs or problems that I could not fix in minutesbrbrOn the other hand my experience with linux is much much more buggy, often I hear "well you need to do some little workaround, but it is okay or even better because you can learn some stuff"brYea I can learn, but why everything must be so complicated? I can fix those stuff, but I want my os to be simple if it's supposed to be simple and if I want to mix some settings it should be harderbrbrI still want to get into linux, but the only upside right now for linux is that windows have more spyware (but I am still using android phone so what is the point of changing os on pc if my phone still spy on me)

I wouldn't say switching permenantly is a good idea, but just having a linux machine that you can use can be a good idea for setting up network services such as AdGuard home or pi hole these will allow you to somewhat block tracking and make Microsoft's tracking limited on the DNS level

It does nothing better than Windows This is not for those of us nontech people, only tech types need to apply I tried Linux, and Zorin OS, but when I ran into trouble I couldn't get any help Even the Zorin community site ridiculed me for being naive I spent a lot of needless time getting rid of it and going back to Windows 10 Never again will I use it no matter how much I hate Microsoft It should be illegal for 77-year-olds to even watch videos that promote it lol

This talks mostly user level, for development machines Linux can work really nice even if it is mostly targeting windows machines by virtue of wine or targeting non x86 targets due to there being no windows existing there

Linux is not bullet proof? I used it for 10 years & downloaded every concievable type of file you can imagine Never had a virus Not once All needed drivers load themselves Automatically I leave my machine on for 2 or 3 weeks at a time without rebooting as a routine 3 days is the max for windows I have literally never seen any of my Linux machines or laptops crash I've had single core stutters but never a crash If you have a quad core or better Linux will reveal the speed your machine really has Especially if you have AMD

This is a good list, but stability isn't one Linux ABI is fragile With so many different devs and packages out there, dependency management is always at Def Con 2 Unless you are using Debian or another point release that updates once every other year or something

I've tried Linux once At one point the bottom panel just disappeared and I couldn't do anything about it Reinstall, reload, nothing helped And that Linux Mint, the most user-friendly version of Linux Other versions couldn't even be installed at all Plus I had to learn code to actually work Linux No thanks, I'm staying with Windows

I was sticking with windows because adobe acrobat makes filling in pdf forms so much easier than other options So I decided not long ago, if I was going to be using windows, I might as well use one note for saving more complicated ideas And now Firefox has an update making filling in pdf forms simple, so I need to find a way to open my one note files in Linux

0:24 The Windows NT kernel is a very well engineered piece of kit What makes the "kernel" buggy is actually typically the drivers, I haven't encountered one blue screen that wasn't intentional or didn't come from a driver, and I've used Windows for years Although Linux does tend to have fewer bugs due to its open source nature, it also has fewer people trying to exploit it due to its small usage share on personal desktops

After testing Kubuntu it seems that Linux is great if all you do is browse the internet or use basic programs and maybe play some solitaire Even a little more advanced stuff like overclocking or tweaking the hardware requires terminal hassling and I couldn't find any easy to use apps for it such as MSI afterburner for Windows Maybe some other distro is better or it's just the way it is

I use a gaming laptop, and when I use Linux, my battery life literally doubles I have turned windows onto power saving mode, etc I know Linux isn’t known for its battery power, but I was pleasantly surprised and it makes my laptop usable for class on battery
