There's a reason cutting tools are made of steel In addition, a belt sander is only suitable for quick and fairly coarse sharpening For better sharpening you need stones

If you want the sharpest edge, you don't cut it You "knap" the obsidian until you have a natural fracture edge It's called "percussion chipping"brThe edge created using this method would be far sharper than trying to cut an edge

The thing that makes obsidian 500x sharper is the fracture of the material itself You need to KNAP it to get the maximum sharpness Simply sawing bits off of a block leaves you with the same issue as steel knives
